That’s a shame but like Gary says, there’s been gaps between the animations before so hopefully we may get more animations some time in the future.

As a story I struggled with The Abominable Snowmen. There’s not a lot to it, very directionless and repetitive and the lack of music really emphasises the aforementioned issues.
As an animation, it’s never going to address those issues, but it’s a great production on the whole. The character movement is fluid and the likenesses spot on. It’s another step up from Fury from the Deep, which was great in itself, and shows the natural progression and improvements of the range, so it’s a shame that it’s the last one. For now anyway.
I think the animation stumbles a bit with the scope, almost a victim of its own success. The change from filming in Wales to animating it like their in Tibet isn’t a bad idea, but I’m not sure it works. It loses that more intimate and atmospheric vibe, which helps to paper over the lack of direction and story progression. It’s the same for the continued use of wide shots instead of close ups.
Overall I thought it was a great animated production that doesn’t necessarily suit the actual story it's portraying and inadvertently exaggerates its shortcomings.

Wonder if the new Disney link up will have any implcations for the financing of future animations?

would be great if RTD can put some good words about it, for the Mouse that would be pocket change but maybe I am delusional

I can't see how Disney would see any actual benefit from doing this, from their end.

The only circumstance I could see for Disney funding animations is if they got the rights to Classic Who and felt need to patch the gaps. I’d imagine them pursuing those rights rather depends on how well new Who performs on their platform.

I mean BBC America was just a broadcaster and they founded old animation, if I understand correctly, so why not Disney?
I heard they are surprisingly surpporting sometimes, but I fully acknowledge I can be mistaken.

I believe Nicola Methven was the one who initially revealed that Evil of the Daleks and The Abominable Snowmen were being animated so could very well be legit.
If it is… great news. The Smugglers is a weird choice but I suppose it’s one closer to completing Season 4. Either way… can’t complain about more animations.

Great that The Underwater Menace is getting the opportunity after missing out previously. The Smugglers I’m chuffed with, as it’s a story that’s always intrigued me and I love that underused team of One, Ben & Polly.
The mention of colourisations is interesting. Presumably something for BBC Two or Four as part of the wider anniversary celebrations. If Clayton Hickman tackles them like he did for the Hancock stuff last year, then it could be very special indeed.

Smugglers is an odd call, IMO. Marco Polo and therefore a season 1 box set would have made sense.

Is this officially confirmed or just from The Mirror?

Is this officially confirmed or just from The Mirror? Just The Mirror, but they do have form on breaking Who animation news so it’s not entirely without credibility.
