It's cold outside... but I suddenly feel a big smile spreading and a warm nostalgic glow on both cheeks.
('That would be me Sir. If my ironing is in uncomfortably close proximity I will remove myself immediately. And cease and desist utilising your chair as the ironing board.')
*twirly salute*
What fun!

More RD is great but I do prefer the half hour sitcom format, hopefully Doug has taken on board what went right and what didn't with Back To Earth and we can get a special worthy of the title. I do hope this doesn't mean there aren't plans for an actual series though - Danny John Jules said the cast have been told numerous times one is being worked on so hopefully this is a stop-gap to another full run. Failing that more audiobooks read by Chris Barrie please - the ones he did are stunning.

I'm mildly concerned that this might be the last hurrah. A special is announced with three hours worth of documentary coinciding at the same time? Seems like an appropriate way to wrap things up. And let's face it, the cast aren't getting any younger.
Like you say davy, let's hope they learned their lessons on Back to Earth. At least there will be a studio audience this time - Back to Earth felt so incredibly hollow without one.

It's so impossibly smug with that conceit, when it's really Dwarf's equivalent of Dimensions In Time, crossing over with one of the country's biggest soaps. If it was funny with it then fair enough but it wasn't funny then now a decade on the joke has aged even worse. Luckily, with the odd exception, the actual 18 eps we've got since the show returned properly have been on par with much of Series IV-VI and quite a bit better than much of VII and VIII.

Hell yeah. I'm always up for more Red Dwarf.
I'm surprised at the special though. I had thought there was going to be a full Series XIII (and I could have sworn I saw tentative mention of a XIV at some point). I hope this is an addition and not a replacement.
Come to think of it, since this is feature-length, I wonder if it's a cannibalized/reworked version of the ill-fated film?

Yeah I saw something from a year ago or something about them recording another season. Awesome news!
I wonder....I wonder... if they can't get visual funding, might Big Finish pick them up? They could have all my money. (And I know some of you post here. )

So, they used up the plot of the movie for a half-hour episode at the end of the last series - and now they announce a (for all intents and purposes) a movie!

Not really the 'Red Dwarf' way is it?!
Find out halfway through the wormhole than none of you knows about interdimensional piloting and all throw a mass hands-waving-in-air panic. That's the style

Though details are scarce, we do now know that it will have a running time of 90 minutes but will be broadcast in a 120 minute slot (allowing for 30 minutes of ads). Other than the core four cast returning and Doug Naylor on writing/directing duties, nothing has been officially confirmed yet: www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2019/10/25/announcement-aftermath/
