I've also figured out something going on in the iPhone version. So consider this a public service announcement. If your phone is older/slow and a download finishes while the app is in the background, it is possible that your device will run out of time while it is unarchiving the files. This is why some users will see a download complete, but there are files missing. Workaround: Make sure the download completes while you have the app open. This will ensure that the system can't shut down the app during this process. I will be working on a fix, but in the meantime I hope that helps

Hi everyone. I'm having an issue with the Android app. Reading this thread, I suspect I may have brought this on myself - but has anyone else had this problem?
I've only had the app for a couple of weeks and it was running perfectly. Then I thought that it would be a good idea to download all the stories I'd like to listen to onto the device. 40GB and a couple of hundred stories later and the app has become almost unusable. It's won't stay open for more than a minute without crashing. Selecting "Force Stop" on the app can help in the short term but it isn't long before it starts to crash again.
Are there just too many stories on the device? Shall I just reinstall the app and make sure I only download a handful of stories at a time?
If it helps I've using the app (version 2.2.3) on a Sony Xperia phone running Android 8.0.0.
Many thanks,
Neil.

iourn Can you PM me an email address? I can send you a link to the new beta. From there I can get the crash logs and figure out what's going on. I'm interested in this exact scenario where you download EVERYTHING

I'm using the beta on iOS.
I like the layout change. May I repeat my request for the skip back/forward buttons to jump less than 30 seconds, or be user-configurable in the same way the sleep timer is?
I have to use the back button a lot when I didn't catch what was just said due to my minor hearing issues. Often it takes more than two skips back to make out the dialogue. I'm lucky if I can get through 30-40 minutes of a story in an hour of listening, because I so often have to listen to 25+ seconds again that I did hear just to get to the last bit that I didn't catch on first/second/umpteenth attempt.
Downloading is also still frequently more miss than hit. I still see it repeatedly get through a percentage of the downoad then go back to zero. Does/could the app not resume downloads so as to be more efficient?
It's just taken almost an hour to get it to fully download something. Before then I observed it get as far as 45% once. Mostly it got up to 7 or 8% dozens of times. For a 336 MB file, the total amount it downloaded is probably easily twice that size. Prior to this title, I failed/gave up on several other attempted downloads earlier this evening, probably totalling several hundred MB worth of failed download.
It's a good thing I have no caps on my broadband usage. If I did it would be frustrating to see such a high level of wastage from the BF app.
I've never had problems like this downloading content into the iplayer or Audible apps.
Is there also any possibility of an indicator of progress in unpacking a file? I'm not counting my chickens on this download yet. It's been saying please wait for twenty minutes now. Only indication that it might be doing something is I can see my available storage on my phone very slowly reducing.
I was at this stage earlier with a main range download only to leave it unattended and later find it no longer on the downloading tab. It also not on the Device tab.

It completed! I can finally head off to bed knowing I have tomorrow's listening ready.
Quick listen to a wee sample of the story and my cloth ears fail to catch the first spoken line. 30 seconds back and I get to enjoy almost the whole theme tune again.
What I'd give for subtitles? Or better ears.

Subtitles? You mean, a book? (couldn't resist the joke!)
But seriously, in regards to the downloads on iOS, I am aware that if the app gets backgrounded, the download may finish and the app will try to start unpacking the zip files. But the backgrounded app, only has a little bit of time to unzip the files before it's killed. I believe the app gets killed sometimes before it can unzip the files completely.
But it sounded like you can actually watch the download percentage jump to 0%? Can you give some more details?

Books, eh? I might have to give them a try!
Yes, I watch it apparently restart over and over.
I press the download button, it changes to say please wait, after a second or three the download circle appears and begins to count up from 0%. I can watch it get so far, then it slides back to 0 and starts again. It keeps on doing this for ages. Sometimes it'll get into the 30s or 40s before sliding back. Other times barely as far as 3 or 4%.
I thought once I'd found that clicking the cancel button then starting again had the app stay focussed and get all the way to 100 first time. But that only worked one time. Other times cancelling and restarting resulted in the same sliding back to zero.
It's like it's playing snakes and ladders, only it never finds any ladders, just lots of snakes!
Occasionally it does work first time or very quickly. Other times like last night it can be an hour or two of watching it before it gets to 100 and starts unpacking.
I read you mention before about keeping the app active so the unpacking can complete. I try that but it's not ideal if downloading requires so much monitoring and time.
It's possibly just my iPhone which is a few years old now and occasionally freezes in other apps. I've been having download issues with the app for a long time though.
I think I'll try installing the app on my partner's tablet and see if it's more reliable on that.

There’s an update available on the app, something about ratings request. Might this mean the app, and the new website, will include a rating system?

Quick question about the Undulib app, does it show lyrics metadata for audiobook files?

Quick question about the Undulib app, does it show lyrics metadata for audiobook files? No rating system, just making sure that when the app asks you to rate the app we are following Apple's policies correctly. Regarding Undulib, no it does not show lyrics metadata.

I have recently got a new phone and downloaded the app but when I have tried to download Cicero it got all the way to the end then said 'failed to unzip....'. I have then tried to download something else and it wont even start downloading and just says 'File Error'.
If anyone could shed light on what I am doing wrong or what I could try to solve this little problem then I would be grateful.

I got a random glitch thing that happened today.
I have the current build 2.3.0 (20108) on a LG TrubuteHD phone.
Attempted several times to download Fourth Doctor 7B boxset. Walked away to let it do it's thing. Failed to download each time.
Checked the settings on a whim and the storage option had switched itself over to internal. (I always make sure to set to external whenever I install a new build). Don't have a lot of internal space on the phone so I am sure that's why the boxset didn't download.
I have downloaded many audios since the most recent build and they definitely went to my SD card. I haven't taken my SD card out of the phone for any period of time recently so that wouldn't explain the switch to internal memory.
Having switched back to external, it downloaded fine.
So, not a big problem on my end but thought it might be of interest going forward to newer builds... If not...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

FYI, if the SD card gets unmounted for any reason, the app will fall back to internal storage.
Also, failed to unzip might mean that you ran out of storage space while it was unzipping the download. You'll need about 2x the space to do it.

Yes the app asked me to log in which it has not done since I first installed it.
I had previously turned the tablet off and then on again, but I never had it ask me that before after doing that.

Hi, I have the Android app on a Huawei Y7, and was wondering whether it was something to do with my phone (idk) or just that it's not a feature in this version of the app, but it would be really useful if the player could be accessible when the phone is locked, cause right now I have to unlock my phone and go to the app/menu to pause it, and it's really rather annoying. Sorry if this has already been brought up, it's just that I've been using the app a lot recently and thought that was a problem. Otherwise, it's great!

The app uses the default android audio notification for playback controls. It should mean that the controls appear on the lock screen.
Do you at least get a notification with playback controls?
