I wouldn't mind keeping Avon in Restoration 3 by switching to the Liberator Chronicles style for it and whatever was planned to be the final series in this trilogy. But I don't know how well that would go down from a marketing perspective.

It would, but getting him to that area of space might be hard to manage.

I think Nick said on a podcast a while back that Tom Chadbon didn't want to do any more B7 when they asked him. IIRC The character was originally supposed to be killed off during Crossfire, but instead we got a throwaway line from Avon in Crossfire 2 referencing his departure.

At the moment thoughts of recasting are far from my mind, but I sincerely hope that behind the scenes Big Finish are working towards giving Paul Darrow in Restoration part 3 the same privilege they afforded Trevor Baxter in Jago and Litefoot Forever : a moving and emotional final hurrah before heading off into the sunset. And frankly if it takes a bit longer than February 2020 to do so then it is something I can live with.

Just finished listening to the action. As expected there was a cliffhanger there and surprisingly an easy way to keep Avon off the stage for a while. I wonder if that was adjusted after the fact. Still need to listen to the interviews.

Listened to the interviews. One interesting thing is that Hyperion originally was going to feature Servalan. The last few tracks of interviews are tributes to both Paul Darrow and Jacqueline Pearce. They found a studio near where Paul Darrow lived and he did his dialogue on his own for the most part there. Michael Keating joined him there for the story Restoration 5.2 - Hunted.
Restoration Part 3 is planned to be their final adventures on the Liberator. There will be more adventures, just not on the Liberator.

I won't put this whole post in 'spoilers', but there are a few dotted about, so beware!
I enjoyed The New Age – it didn’t seem particularly focussed on any member of the team, but ultimately it became Vila’s story. Hearing him and Avon actually involved in a physical scuffle was quite something – I wished Vila had gained the upper hand, but that would never do. Good, poignant stuff. Poor old Vila, far more than ‘the coward.’ Avon and Tarrant take centre stage in Happy Ever After, and here Paul Darrow is sounding more like his old self than in the previous story. This might be the closest thing Blake’s 7 came to a ‘fairy tale’, with poor old Del once again not quite finding happiness with a lass. Could it be a theme with this set, this ‘what if crew-members went their separate ways?’ thread that has run through the first two tales? Siren brings Dayna and Cally to the fore. It doesn’t take long for Dayna to succumb to the weirdness of the ruined world they visit. This starts off as a good, creepy tale but soon gets bogged down a little with the kind of ‘talkiness’ uninterrupted by action, that blighted much of the Crossfire series for me. It gives me no pleasure to notice Paul Darrow’s breathless line delivery in the first and last story, especially in view of the fact that he passed away not so long after recording this. Avon is still very much Avon however, and Hyperion brings this set to a close nicely. At first, it seemed that the much touted character of Selene Shan was going to be a kind of comedy character, but luckily that was not the case. Its nice also, to see the return of an etheric beam locator! I don’t know if the cliffhanger, and Avon’s part in it, was recorded before Paul passed away, but reasons might well have been given for the character’s lack of presence in the next box set. It’s a bitter/sweet situation, waiting to see how things will turn out, but Restoration 3 promises to be very interesting.
I noticed this as well. Very sad to listen to, but still a great performance nonetheless, as befits both actor and character.

Guess I never commented on this set. I listened to it a while ago and then got busy with other things. I did enjoy it, the set up of them searching for a way to save the Liberator was interesting.
