Past, present and future collide as the Thirteenth Doctor meets classic Doctor Who companion Ace – in the first epic novel from the woman who played her, Sophie Aldred.
Once, a girl called Ace travelled the universe with the Doctor – until, in the wake of a terrible tragedy they parted company. Decades later, she is known as Dorothy McShane, the reclusive millionaire philanthropist who heads global organisation A Charitable Earth.
And Dorothy is haunted by terrible nightmares, vivid dreams that begin just as scores of young runaways are vanishing from the dark alleyways of London. Could the disappearances be linked to sightings of sinister creatures lurking in the city shadows? Why has an alien satellite entered a secret orbit around the Moon?
Investigating the satellite with Ryan, Graham and Yaz, the Doctor is thrown together with Ace once more. Together they must unravel a malevolent plot that will cost thousands of lives. But can the Doctor atone for her past incarnation’s behaviour – and how much must Ace sacrifice to win victory not only for herself, but for the Earth?

So yet another version of Ace's departure. How many is that we're up to now?
And does a BBC published novel beat BF in terms of the "real" canonical events? No more Ace on Gallifrey?

This is why I believe in hypertime, everything is canon, especially if it's contradictory!

YAY another Ace departure!! So there's "The Curse of Fenric" novelisation version, the "Ground Zero" version, the New Adventures version, the Big Finish version and the "Sarah-Jane Adventures" version. (Which might now end up counting as two versions based on how you feel about the in-character S26 Box-Set trailer.)

To be honest, with the exception of Ground Zero and the New Adventures, most of those aren't really departures, are they? We have yet to actually see/hear the circumstances that led Ace to leave the TARDIS for the last time to study at the Academy (In fact, she didn't permanently leave the TARDIS to study anyway, because she would pop back occasionally in the Bernice Summerfield New Adventures box sets) And it's established in Gallifrey Time War/Class what became of Ace to bridge the gap between her studying in the Academy and forming A Charitable Earth. Also, The Curse of Fenric one and the New Adventures one are the same thing! So far, Ace has had 3 departures: Ground Zero (which is a pretty definite departure!) Set Piece - The Virgin New AdventuresBig Finish/SJA (which hasn't even been properly shown yet) - So the new book could still fit in with it

So I think BF and NAs tie up reasonably well, the fly in the ointment is Ground Zero, but as I posted earlier in another thread I don't have a big problem with it. Ace was killed in Ground Zero, Seven did something timey wimey and brought her back to life but fiddled with her memory to cover his tracks - hence the amnesia in Timewyrm Genesys. So Ace's memory loss in Genesys is simply the equivalent of Bobby coming out of the shower in Dallas.

So Ace's memory loss in Genesys is simply the equivalent of Bobby coming out of the shower in Dallas. *wiggles fingers* The Eighth Doctor DWM comics address Ground Zero in a roundabout sort of way as well. Skirting around spoilers, by the time of The Glorious Dead, it's become clear that someone or something has been guiding the Doctor's recent journeys. Something with enough power to alter not just our history, but the history of a dozen elseworlds across the multiverse. Killing Ace fits the schemer's pattern and it is implied to be dealt with by the end. More specifically... {Spoiler}The Master finds his way from the Eye of Harmony to the Omniversal Spectrum where he tries to take control of something called the Glory. A device that maintained the structure of the omniverse so long as a living mind sat at is centre. And the mind it possessed already was dying. So, the Master sought to usurp it. Fortunately, due to extenuating circumstances, he was bested by the Doctor's companion who altered history back to its original course. Earth, devastated and broken, was reclaimed. The Master was banished. Ace may have gotten a second chance at life.

Great stuff! I wonder if this will be the new annual treat going forward, now Scratchman has set the precedent and the Douglas Adams stories have been finished? Looking forward to it.
Not quite sure why the thread is getting bogged down with discussing Ace’s departures. The synopsis makes no indication of another one and indeed refers to her charity, which ties in with an established piece from The Sarah Jane Adventures that’s been expanded upon in the past couple of years with Gallifrey, Class, the S26 BluRay Trailer.

Sounds interesting. I haven’t really been keeping up with the novels (though I hear good things about Scratchman) but may give this a look.

Well there is a hint towards her departure that doesn’t really fit anything we’ve seen before and indicate that we’ll be seeing a different take on it, which is likely why people are discussing it.

The blurb say the Dr and Ace parted company "in the wake of a terrible tragedy" which does not really tie up with anything we have seen so far relating to the departure.
