Oh yes! Out, is it? Strange, usually these Torchwood singles are usually released at the end of the month, not that I'm complaining. The magnificent, mighty, mellifluous Mister Murray Melvin is always great. I'm saving this as a little end-of-week treat for tomorrow. Great news, and a fine way to start the weekend

I had high expectations for this one and it did not disappoint, I really liked it and its narrative structure! {Spoiler} The ending surprised me a bit, I was really pleased that Billis set free the only character who hadn't hurt him before their deaths. I sometimes think Billis and the War Master are alike -they plot and like to act like ignorant cuddly grandfathers when in reality you're already dead when meeting them - with the Master being more sadistic so yeah, that was nice to hear that he did not like gratuitous acts.

Can Bilis not get his own box-set? He is a magnificent character, and expertly played by the legend that is Murray Melvin, who seems so modest and happy to be part of Big Finish's team.
Anyway, I had actually written a few words about this previously (I ended up listening to it last night; I couldn't wait). I had compared the narrative structure to those wonderful Amicus horror films of old. I even used the word 'portmanteau', which I thought sounded really clever. This was before I'd heard the extras, where exactly those points were covered! But this is brilliant. David Llewellyn is among those writers you know will deliver the goods, and so he has, together with a brilliant cast playing (mostly) pretty objectionable people - especially the well-named Piers! Just brilliant throughout, and of course, Lee Adams and Blair Mowat's music and sounds are as evocative as you might expect. I run out of superlatives for this range.

Very nice little horror story. Bilis is on fine charmingly evil form, comparisons to the War Master are very apt. {Spoiler} I liked that he showed a bit of mercy at the end, for no real reason other than her having been polite to him. Adds some layers to the character.
So I guess I’d better add Deadbeat Escape to my wishlist...

Then I hope you can listen to Aliens Among Us and God Among Us as soon as possible, those box sets are among Big Finish's best ever in my opinion and God Among Us is absolutely my favorite Torchwood series. Yes, I think I love it more than Children of Earth. I was just asking because Billis made his grand return to the Torchwood universe in an Aliens Among Us 2 episode.

What’s not to love? Murray Melvin, a spooky story where every part gets to tell their tale with a fine range of characters and actors, plus steady hands at the tiller on script and direction... it’s all the usual high level of Torchwood goodness!
I do like the idea of a Bilis box set, or maybe having him as the main villain in the next main season?

I don’t care how contrived it might seem, it’d be worth it just to see Melvin and Jacobi play off one another.

I loved this. What a great story. And I love the Billis Manger character. He is such a nice layered villain, and really bada$$ and I love that he is not evil for evil sake. And it was so satisfying to have the nasty people get what they deserve... Wonderfully done.

Listened to this yesterday. Quite a chilling story. I was wondering why they didn't recognize Bilis on the train right away and they explained that to my satisfaction. I was surprised that his actions were ultimately against The Committee. I guess they were the ones who trapped him before Deadbeat Escape. We haven't heard how that happened, right?

Do I need to have heard Deadbeat Escape to understand Dead Man's Switch? No, but you should hear it sometime - it's a great TW and imo the better of the two, but that's just me preferring the story style of DBE. I think anything with Billis will be well worth hearing!
