The two Auton stories are pretty involved, as are The Time Warrior and The Day of the Daleks. Can anyone think of any others?

The two Auton stories are pretty involved, as are The Time Warrior and The Day of the Daleks. Can anyone think of any others? Agree 'The Day of the Daleks' is outstanding; I know I've posted in praise of that story before but I'm posting it again... and again... and again... and again...
Also agree 'The Auton Invasion' gives excellent added value, and 'Terror of the Autons' fixes a few sequencing issues in the TV story and is a great intro to the Master. 'The Web of Fear' is very good for adding depth to the characters and gives us just enough extra 'Brig-ness' given what we all knew would happen to the Colonel in due course.
'The Claws of Axos' is much better than the televised version for the Doctor's scheme and making us wonder what he's really up to with the Master. On TV it's all a bit rushed; in the novel it has time to develop convincingly.
One that really shows his professionalism when we know the backstory is 'The Brain of Morbius'. Despite all that happened between his script and the broadcast version, Robin Bland was still prepared to write the novel of the story as seen on TV with all his usual flair and the result has both the fun and the horror of Holmes.
I think they should just release the whole lot in one volume, like 'The Complete Works of Shakespeare'.

Simple wish list from me, seeing as its a 10 story omnibus:
The Auton Invasion
Day of the Daleks
The Brain of Morbius
The Loch Ness Monster
The Three Doctors
The Talons of Weng Chiang
The Giant Robot
The Pyramids of Mars
The Horror of Fang Rock
Inferno
Purely a nostalgia trip selection for me, rather than latter release gaps. It will be interesting to see what actually makes the final release. Fingers crossed that the classic covers get a centre pages look-in too.

with two more to come - still being voted on. Currently The Day of the Daleks is leading by quite a bit in its poll, with Talons and Robot neck and neck in theirs.

I see I am not the only one who felt Inferno a better option than Wheel in Space. Day of the Daleks is rated by many as better than Genesis i gather. There's enough good choices for two volumes anyhow. Like others though, I associate his best period with Pertwee as that was his era, but I think the breadth of the winners seems better suited in scope.

My offside rule for this game is very easy to understand: if 'Day of the Daleks' isn't included then the whole volume is clearly offside and I will not be buying it!
A good & varied spread but in some cases perhaps the story has been voted for rather than the novelisation? Personal choice of course but 'Day of the Daleks' is far above 'Genesis' as a novel.

Spot on. Everything I selected initially I based on very clear memories of having read them as a young fan. They stood out as riveting books, in some cases decades before i had the chance to see the televised versions. The quality of writing should be the showcase here.

Yeah, some of the Target novels were way better than the actual TV episodes, Day of the Daleks is most definitely one of them!

I absolutely love the DVD SE for that reason - 'Day' finally lives up to the story I remembered, not the one I actually saw! I was so thrilled by this, that SE is my favourite thing about the whole DVD range

Pre-ordered both volumes. The artwork is minimalist yet striking and there’s a really good collection of stories there.

Sold to me at 'Doctor Who and The Day of the Daleks'. My favourite of the entire 'Target' range and no matter how many times I've read it, I know that this time, it's going to be just the same.
Great choice of stories for the two volumes, DOTD and 'The Auton Invasion' were my two must haves, his first two novelisations and the best two as novels imo, but I'll enjoy reading all the rest again in new posh bindings. And I've never read 'The Wheel in Space', believe it or not, so that will be fun!
EDIT: Looking back up the thread, I'm so pleased that DOTD and 'Talons' just made the final cut. My favourite 'Target' novel, and my favourite story all all Who respectively. They both had to be in there!

I have so few of the Targets that I actually only own Auton Invasion out of this lot.
The collection's a wee bit pricey at CDN $53.95 a volume considering the Targets max out around $5 used (and they're not exactly in short supply) and you really can't get ONE of these volumes without the other, look at them, they look too nice together - but... I wouldn't be shocked if I ended up owning these at some point. Might make a nice Christmas gift to ask for!

But there are ten titles here so that's just $5.40 per title and all brand new collector's edition style hardback and you know you want to...

A lovely collection and it's gonna look great on shelves. I've got the full set of Targets but might still pick these up as reading copies. I spent 25 odd years on my Targets (and my VNAs, 8DAS, PDAS etc) as I had my copies growing up for some but other older ones I got second hand...and a lot had seen better days. SO bit by bit I picked up better condition copies here and there, "Frankensteining" the collection to having everything pretty near mint. Then you end up with mint copies of the likes of Evil Of The Daleks and Wheel In Space and scared to touch the bloody things defeating the purpose.

(Edited that earlier post as I realize how it was confusing...)
