But there are ten titles here so that's just $5.40 per title and all brand new collector's edition style hardback and you know you want to... Double that, I'm afraid - each volume is $53.95! (Edited that earlier post as I realize how it was confusing...) Oof, those prices... I've a collection of Target novelisations running from The Daleks to The TV Movie, which takes up roughly the length of my arms outstretched in the cupboard. It's a goodly amount of literature. All of them came at $4.00-$5.00 AUD, slowly collected in one manner or another from a second-hand bookshop in the local neighbourhood. Years and years of collecting from knee-high to now.
Poor old shop's gone now, but I've still got all the yellowed pages and paperback covers. Seeing the new run of novelisations is fabulous, but $20 AUD for a paperback gave me a bit of a start first time I saw it. The seller wouldn't have dreamed marking them as anything higher than $7.00 AUD. Amazing how much can change in a few decades.
(Side note: I wonder if these reprints will include the illustrations? I remember Day of the Daleks, in particular, having the site plan of Austerly House.)

Abominable Snowmen, Auton Invasion and Day of the Daleks were all illustrated. I do hope the illustrations will be included.

And they used the brilliant original covers by Chris Achilleos! The illustrations were such a unique feature of the early novelisations that they've usually been included on the insert card/booklet in the audiobook versions too. Ah, nostalgia!

Well then I'd be shocked if they didn't include them! I wasn't sure as my copy of Auton Invasion is an earlier one - when I ordered it online, I was expecting the 2011 reprint as pictured in the listing and was pleasantly surprised to receive a 1980 printing - the one with the Tom Baker style logo, which I really wish was still on every Target!

Oh, I think I know the one, that lovely version unique to the Targets. I think I might have a template version bookmarked somewhere. *rummage* *rummage* *rummage* Here we are. Nothing says nostalgia in quite the same way as that logo. There's just something about it that brings a warm fuzzy glow. That and I was mesmerised by the little patch of advertising in the very back of some of the novelisations that included "Fantastic Doctor Who Poster Offers!" for £2.50. Some images, I don't think you can get in the same format anymore. There's a kneeling Fifth Doctor holding a gun against a rain of Target covers, a Dalek on Exxilon having a very bad day, the Third Doctor trying to overpower Linx's gunarm, a cutaway of a very angry Dalek (brilliant art, no idea where it came from), and the two Cybermen from the 80s Moonbase novelisation cover. I think I've only been able to track down clean versions of half of the images used.

That and the diamond logo it's based upon are absolutely my favourite Who logos, which is why I've got the diamond one on a T-shirt! sidebar: back before concerts were verboten I wore it to see The Who just to amuse myself...

I think I've still got an unmarked 1996 diary with a stonking big version of the diamond logo somewhere on the shelves. I'll see if I can track it down. I did a peruse of the Targets, found the aforementioned page of posters and popped it through the scanner. Voila! A blast from the past. The only one I haven't seen anywhere else is #4, so if anyone can locate that Dalek cutaway, you'd be solving a potentially decades old mystery. For those curious what Who merchandise looked like in the mid-80s reprints:

For those curious what Who merchandise looked like in the mid-80s reprints: Oh, memories! The Linx and Pertwee Doctor one is an old classic because I think I had it in the 70s, but I don't think I bought it because I never bought any collectables - there weren't many to buy really - except the books.
Possibly I had it in a postcard size rather than a poster? Maybe I got it at a book fair? I definitely bought some of my Target books at school book fairs in the 1970s and I vaguely remember some other Who stuff being handed out. But I can't remember for sure - it's a long time ago...
(It's long long gone whatever it was, so if it's worth a fortune now, please nobody tell me... )

The Tragical History Tour has a copy of the image that made up the poster in a solid A3 size (helpfully bookmarked on my browser as, "Shall we dance, Commander Linx?"), so if you ever wanted #3 of the Fantastic Poster Offers... (I've also managed to track down #1's "THE WORLD OF DOCTOR WHO" in a trawl through the internet.) In addition to that, I did a skim through some of the more unusual spaces for books and found it behind the 1973 Radio Times special. The Doctor Who 1996 Diary ( constonks ). Released likely a pair of heartsbeats prior to the announcement of McGann with this striking cover:

I seem to remember there being little quiz questions on some of the pages, not all of which had all the right answers on the next page... I also remember some of the images being used to represent different stories were totally wrong; I'm sure one of the images used for The War Games came from the UNIT battle with the Cybermen at the end The Invasion. I can't remember much else about it, but that was a nice little stroll down memory lane

Well, looks like I voted for five of the winners (good taste). Looking at the chosen top ten: Vol 1 Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth - Two PB copies - one first edition (orange logo) and one mint reprint (blue logo) Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen - one first edition (black logo) and one mint reprint (80's Skilleter artwork), plus the Audiobook Doctor Who and the Wheel in Space - whoo - not got in any format. Its no rarer than several other contemporaneous releases so is a bit overpriced as a PB. Doctor Who and the Auton Invasion - Two first editions, one mint reprint (80's Skilleter artwork), plus the Audiobook. Doctor Who and the Day of the Daleks - Two first editions, one mint reprint with later 70's logo Vol 2 Doctor Who and the Genesis of the Daleks - Three copies Doctor Who and the Pyramids of Mars - One PB, one ex library HB, one audiobook. Doctor Who and the Talons of Weng-Chiang - One PB, two ex library HB Doctor Who and the Horror of Fang Rock - only one mint PB - a bit short there as I gave the read copy away back in the day. Plus the Audiobook. Doctor Who and the Five Doctors - one First Edition, one Second Edition. No 90's reprints... Hmm - a fair bit of duplication here. Will I be tempted to buy? Silly question. Of course I will end up pre-ordering. They look too classy to pass. I'll maybe ask for them as a Birthday present perhaps, unless there is another Classic Series Blu-Ray set out the same time...

@wolfie53 - that is the most 70s looking thing they could have released in 1996. Genesis Daleks and the colourful Tom Baker diamond. Love it!
