I won't post a link because it is a toxic newspaper but this release has been mentioned in The Sun! All publicity is good publicity...

Not that it matters I suppose, but John Simm's return to the role on audio seems to have attracted far more attention than Michelle Gomez did when Missy came to Big Finish. Whatever, as @stevo said, it's all good publicity.

Whatever, as @stevo said, it's all good publicity. Not surprising. I love Gomez, she's my fave, but PR wise John Simm is a far bigger name, probably fair to say a household name in the UK, who has been the lead in a dozen prime time dramas.

I'm willing to take the plunge on this one. I was never fond of the Simm's Master, but I think that's owed to the material and not the actor. His initial return is mired by a Jokerization, style over substance approach. The End of Time takes that 'epic over function' approach to heart for its entire story, which ends up being a low point in the series for all characters concerned. If Big Finish continues to prove why it's a focal point of the DW property, it'll take the Simm Master and apply him to stories that want to be stories and not just set pieces, that focus the narrative and are structurally sound, like the Doctor Falls. I say this as someone who typically preferred Davis over Moffet, but I have no loyalties. A good story is a good story. The Simm Master must prove himself and I'm willing to spend the cash to find out if he can. I much prefer the way Moffat wrote him than RTD but I do love seeing Simm let lose even in S3. His regen from Jacobi is still one of my most joyous scenes in New Who. I adored it.

All these suggestions for cross-release plot arcs to pull us into buying everything... shhh, don't give them ideas
Dark Universe anyone ? Regards mark687 The Twelve or even The Thirteen, goaded on by the Eleven, could be the Time Lord out for revenge on the Master(s) for killing that incarnation.

Would find it hysterical if it turned out the Monk was the one responsible behind all these incarnations of the Master coming together. I somehow doubt they would be amused though by that revelation. Well, maybe MacQueen and Simms would.

Interestingly in DWM, there's an article on Masterful which mentions that both Katy Manning and Jon Culshaw will be in it (and we can assume it's Masterful itself as the 3-hour audiobook isn't mentioned). Makes sense, it's Katy's 50th as well.

Interestingly in DWM, there's an article on Masterful which mentions that both Katy Manning and Jon Culshaw will be in it (and we can assume it's Masterful itself as the 3-hour audiobook isn't mentioned). Makes sense, it's Katy's 50th as well. Was there any other Big Finish news in the issue?

Seven pages of comments, for a release that's more than a year away.... Yes, and there will likely be fewer comments about it after it is released than before. That's the way it tends to go on the DU As Spock said, it is not logical but it is often true

It would make lots of sense to involve classic UNIT in some way, they were as much a part of Season 8 as the Doctor or the Master, and as you say it's Katy's anniversary too. If a part of 'Masterful' is set during Season 8, I think we definitely need Richard Franklin included, it's his/Yates' 50th as well.

Just look at the news. Or the tabloids.
And isn't anticipation a wonderful thing?

Who has time to actually listen to things when there are so many things to look forward to listening to?

Does DWM say anything else about Masterful, or just that casting comment?

Think they’ll announce when the limited CD edition is close to sell out? I’m international and been putting off ordering this, I like to pre-order a bunch at once to minimize the per-order charges.

They certainly told us when the limited edition of Legacy of Time was close to selling out completely, so I wouldn't be surprised if they do something similar with Masterful.
