They do. But at the same time they're not removing the option on new releases. Current logistical safety, waiting time issues aside, BF are still catering to all Customers Format choices. Its the Customer own choice which Format they think is the best value for their money. Regards mark687

Regards mark687 Recognizing there remains a market for physical product, if a shrinking one, and wanting to shift away from producing physical product can both still be going on at the same time. Jason isn't stupid, He knows there are still a lot of CD buyers out there and as long as they can make that work financially, they will no doubt continue. Doesn't mean they would also prefer to move to being a digital only company.

CD box sets will soon look like cigarette packets...that will stop us evil collectors of Big Finish products!

For years now, the best 'Deluxe' Music CD packaging has been cardboard mini vinyl LP style sleeves (a Japanese innovation). Pink Floyd, Beatles and Led Zeppelin remasters, Complete box sets of The Doors, The Police, Simon & Garfunkel, Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra etc - all get the mini sleeve & often gate-fold treatment. And they're a magnet for double-dippers. I should know... And no plastic involved (except the disc, obvs. And any laminate). I see a way forward here for Big Finish 'Collectors Editions' and OOP Deluxe Box Set reissues. Its a Winner

The Smiths did a remaster of “The Queen is Dead” with similar LP style discs and sleeves, housed in a nice box. It’s a lovely little set, though they didn’t do the other three studio albums!
I’m not sure if it’s the future for Big Finish, but I’d be interested to see something similar from them. The Legacy of Time would’ve benefited from it, much more than the limited edition packaging we did get.

The Legacy of Time would’ve benefited from it, much more than the limited edition packaging we did get. Only semi serious in suggesting it as a whole, though as you say some special releases would be more shelf friendly if they were of a similar size. The main marketing opportunity of which I think would be a genuine money spinner, could be a reissuing of the earlier monthly range releases in volumes, say 1-10 etc, in light cardboard sleeves, in a stiffer board slipcase box. I have bought a load of 'classic album's' releases of the likes of ZZ Top, Patti Smith, Rory Gallagher, Carole King, Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, as a very cheap way of building up a selection of albums, of acts for the price of a greatest hits compilation. Usually you get up to 5 for a tenner. With Miles, I already had about 15 of his remastered later key albums in traditional cases, but gained another 33 albums in two box sets with only some duplication, of his earlier stuff, for about £12-15 each (they've doubled in price since though). Economies of scale wise, its one way of getting them back in shops again, beyond individual titles by mail order. Waterstones, Forbidden Planet and HMV still have a customer base for something like this. Its like the Audible compilations of the Target novel readings, but in a physical medium. I'd buy them, to fill in the CD gaps (missing 30 of the first 50).

AFAIK people who have bought titles that Big Finish no longer has the licence for still have the right/ability to download their purchase.

This may have been discussed but I’ve only just noticed it. Apparently Stranded is shifting from the “slipcover box set” format to the “jewel case in slipcover” setup? Is this the final death knell for individual covers, if even Eight’s new major line isn’t using the format? I would hope/expect 8th dr time war 4 will be slipcover box set to match 1-3, but after that vol 5 and beyond will be jewel case in slipcover. Other than that I think the only remaining ongoing series still in the slipcover box set format are New UNIT, River and Torchwood continuing story and I imagine they will soon switch to jewel case. UNIT and Torchwood are in a natural pause between releases right now and it would be a good time to make the switch when they return. Then the next thing to go will be the slipcovers around the jewel cases . . . .

I got excited when I saw your name on the recent post because I was hoping for that wonderful message we've seen so many times - "It's in accounts. Regards. mark687" (Nice to see Rebecca getting some interview attention though!)

I listened to to the sample of part 1 a few days ago. I wonder if the Doctor is 'stranded' in one of The Curators three dimensional paintings, a bit like that of 'Gallifrey Falls No More', but of one of London? That was the feeling I got, anyway. If he finds that he cannot travel far on land, then that would be a further suggestion.

It's a strange co-incidence that something my mother got my for my birthday is released on hers...
