I think, with 50 years of the Third Doctor in 2020, is Stranded Big Finish's love letter to the 3rd doctor's exile? Sorry to show my ignorance....50 years of the Third Doctor in 2020? I know that the Third Doctor’s dating working with UNIT has always been problematic, but I have bpm ever heard 2020 being suggested!?

Just one next year, and three in 2021, I wonder if there were scheduling issues? I’m really looking forward to Andy. It actually makes sense that there would be cross over between Torchwood and Who on audio. Davies didn’t want it on tv, but given that audios are locked behind a paywall, there’s less chance of kids coming to Torchwood. As long as it plays by the rules of Who, bring it on! I’ll take Andy, Colchester, the committee you name it! Putting aside Paul's appearances in non-Eight titles (River, CDNM, War Master, etc), 2-3 Eighth Doctor releases a year has been pretty standard for some time now. I think we just got a bit spoiled this year with four. 2015: Dark Eyes 4, Doom Coalition 1 2016: Doom Coalition 2, Doom Coalition 3 2017: Doom Coalition 4, Time War 1 2018: Ravenous 1, Time War 2, Ravenous 2 2019: Ravenous 3, Lucie Miller 1, Time War 3, Ravenous 4 2020: Stranded 1, Time War 4 2021: Stranded 2, Stranded 3, Stranded 4 And that's assuming we don't get any surprises in the next two years, which we often do.

I think 2020 for the UNIT era is about the only date I haven't heard suggested at one time or another!
As Mark says, yes it'll be 50 years since Season 7 in 1970 when they 'grounded' the Doctor. But the UNIT years were supposedly running 'a few years' ahead of real time so they could include (human) technology that was a bit beyond what was possible at the time. So, set in the late 70s? It's all guesswork really.
If there is even a little bit of a Pertwee tribute in the idea of 'Stranded'... Jo Jones is certainly still fizzing around the world in 2020 on her various campaigns - perhaps she'll bump into an old friend one day during a protest on Baker St. ?

Yes please for Jo Jones!

Dorothy McShane also comes to mind as someone he could meet in 2020, especially knowing about her involvement in Dark Universe, since the Eleven is very much still recent for the Doctor.

Don't know if it was mentioned it but, but anyone find it interesting that 13 is apperantly going to see Mary Shelley, and 8 is going to be in 2020? If 8 and 13 don't meet at least once that's a giant missed opportunity.

Was also a thought I had... yes, BF does not have the license, however, if the BBC wants to use it as a marketing opportunity, I do not think they would say no.

I don't want to be negative, but I don't see that happening. Like, at all.

That's just the nature of licensed media. Books/comics/audios/etc. have to respect the source material, but the source material's creative team has zero obligation to work around things established within licensed content as that stuff is consumed by a smaller niche audience.

I watched Beauty and the Beast, the live action Disney film that was on the BBC over Christmas, and was surprised to see Hattie Morahan in it.
With Nicola Walker showing up in so many programs I sometimes forget just how lucky we are to have such fine actresses traveling with the Doctor.
And of course there was Ruth Bradley and Sheridan Smith before them.
The Eighth Doctor and his listeners have been blessed with some amazing companions.
I am still unsure about Stranded, but I cannot complain about the talent involved in it.

Just listened to Torchwood More Than This, which I got to familiarize myself with the character of Sgt. Andy (yeah, I know there are other releases, but I have a hard time dealing with difficult adult themes, in what is supposed my "entertainment"). He is used as comic relief in the episode, and the episode itself is quite fun.
I have come to the conclusion that the addition of Sgt Andy to the team might work really well. He is a fun guy with a helpful positive attitude, desperately tries to prove himself, has humor and is not afraid to go up against alien monsters. This is some amazing potential right there.
Presumably he might get used in Stranded as Torchwood associate to keep watch on the Doctor. Maybe as a way to prove himself? Or maybe there will be something more sinister going on in the background... I still suspect that the idea of having the Doctor "Stranded" is not the only plot arch we will be following. Pretty sure there will be more to it.
But as a character he would fit quite well with the overall tone of the 8th Doctor stories. Really curious what angle they will be coming up with.

I hope they don't do that, because I kinda want to keep watching the show... But 8 is my Doctor... So I'd legit quit watching the show if they did that... Kinda have to at that point.

Ghost Misson is a great story that focuses fully on Andy with out any major adult themes. The sequel Goodbye Piccadilly is another good story but with a lot of sexual humour. The other Andy main ranges stories are Corpse Day & The Hope which are about as dark and depressing as Torchwood has ever gotten so i'd avoid them even though they are fantastic in my opinion. Andy coming over to Who was something I've wanted for a long time, He's the perfect character for a crossover.

Andy coming over to Who was something I've wanted for a long time, He's the perfect character for a crossover. I have gotten Ghost Mission and it was alright. Not totally sold on it. I admit I have never watched a single TV episode of Torchwood. I just assumed it was a weird mix of icky juvenile sexual jokes blended with extremely depressing mood and topics. Not too keen on either. I am slowly coming around to the audio releases, but so far mainly concentrated on the comedic stories. My first ever Torchwood story, The Green Life, was absolutely amazing and this was what made me try out other stories.
As I said, More Than This was a really fun story, I enjoyed myself.
And Andy seems to be a great fun and positive character, and I am sure he will fit nicely with the TARDIS team. I just tried to imagine how his type of humor will bounce off Liv's. I think we are in for a treat.

I find even in the grim/scary/etc stories, Andy still comes off as just delightful comic relief every time. I can't wait to see how he bounces off Liv either, tuigirl

He contrasts wonderfully with some of the grimmer elements. I feel like other characters from the TW team would become melancholic to suit the story but Andy's upbeat attitudes, even when he's faced with some horrible stuff. Oddly it was when he was framed as being a right-wing nutjob that freaked me out the most, more than the supernatural things he's experienced. He keeps his almost Gavin & Stacey like Welshness, just pushing through and making do. It's Arthur Dent like, in places.

The other thing I like about Andy is that even though he's a fairly "by the book" kind of guy, he'll always do the right thing when it comes down to it. Perhaps my favourite Andy moment is toward the end of Day Five of Children of Earth when the parents attack the police in full riot gear with only fists and bricks. He stops to think for only a few seconds before ripping off his police vest and charging at his colleagues. That was a potentially life changing decision for him (he'd almost certainly have lost his job for it in the real world), but he did it anyway. I'm always silently cheering him in that moment
