There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

It’s a comin 😉 from what I gather this Ruth Doctor seems to be stealing Jodies thunder.Thats a bit unfair to Jodie to have someone portray the character stronger than she does (only a vibe am getting from the posts) so I have an inkling from what I have read that she ISN’T a Doctor. Reading also Gallifrey destroyed they should keep that not unwrite it,too many Timelords,Too many Tardis,Too many renegades. Ruth isn't portraying the Doctor stronger than Jodie. Just different. Tbh I think all this talk is ridiculous. Agreed: it’s like comparing 4 to 7: two different iterations of the same character. Honestly, if Ruth had been portrayed as being more like 13, the impact wouldn’t have been as great.

Oddly I thought it was Jodie's strongest performance "I've never been you I know who I am" and everything that follows delivered firmly but not whingy. Regards mark687 Agree, I liked Jodie last season but imo she's been a better Doctor since 'Resolutions' and this was her best yet. The available material helps any actor obviously and I think this season has been far stronger overall.

Regards mark687 I've liked her since day one but yes she has got stronger as the episodes have gone on, especially in this one as she's given some good material. Absolutely. As I said in another thread, you needed Ruth to be more obviously "Doctorish" in that one scene as the audience need to buy that she is the character of The Doctor so they used the kind of shorthand like smart-glasses, classic TARDIS, being a bit patronising to her "companion". They went as far as to have her call the TARDIS "old girl" - so, yeah, while in that scene she was being pushed...it doesn't mean she somehow upstaged Jodie. In that scene Jodie had the more difficult part, she's the one who has to sell how bemused she is by all of this. How many possibilities are going through her mind? Is this The Master who she's just mentioned as being worried is still kicking about our Universe? Is this her future self? Jodie did the heavy lifting. And as someone who criticised Jodie's acting choices in 2017 often, but more often the material given to her, she has found her way nicely into the role once and for all. The little bits of business like this week's wondering why Ryan reeked of dead birds to last week her eagerness to rhyme, "Platoon of Judoon near the moon" then having to improv "Platoon of Judoon near....that lagoon" were so wonderfully played. Tennant too took a year or so to really start nailing his Doctor and he's an uber-fan so I think it may just have been they didn't quite know what they had last year and writing "generic Doctor" wheras this year they're writing for Jodie's strengths. Meanwhile Jodie will know what she feels worked and didn't. Honestly I can't think of any of my Series 11 criticisms that haven't at least been alleviated this year, if not eliminated.

If you search for 'Clayton name meaning' on Google, this is the first result: "The name Clayton is an English Baby Names baby name. In English Baby Names the meaning of the name Clayton is: Derived from a surname and place name, based on the Old English 'claeg' meaning clay and 'tun' meaning settlement. Also, mortal."www.sheknows.com/baby-names/name/clayton/

Has anyone re watched this much? It's fun to see the wee things that may be clues and may just be fun little coincidences. Like the first thing we see Ruth do is stare intently at her watch, showing a literal interest in time itself. Then a few seconds later the mirror she checks herself out in is the hexagonal shape that houses the roundels in the TARDIS. Also, William Hartnell briefly had the same hairstyle as Jo. Don't look that one up though, just take my word for it. It's fact!

But he only had it styled that way during a TARDIS cut-away scene in 'Mission to the Unknown' which was removed before broadcast because of an overrun and so isn't in any of the surviving prints.

Where are they getting with THIS?"
I know you are not ready, but you should really watch this (leave out Orphan 55 though) and tell us what you think after seeing it with your own eyes. Kind of as a purely critical analyst.
I know i will enjoy it lol but its kind of fun for me NOT knowing Not being the first to see it especially amongst my family members who cannot believe i havent seen any of it lol I will wait till after Venice and then catch up with it all.Give Jodie a fair innings during my 54th year lol

Which I do.

'Orphan 55' is great as long as you think it's a send-up of sci-fi disaster movies. Which I do. Hmm...no. You managed to convince me to love 'Love and Monsters' which I thought was impossible so I'll keep trying to convince everyone to enjoy the comedy brilliance that is 'Orphan 55'! Really, looked at line by line, scene by scene, I don't 'buy' that it could be like that without doing it deliberately. A story might contain one or two cliches, tropes and stock characters well overacted but there are limits...
As well as all the obvious 'flaws' in the episode you pointed out in your post on the 'Orphan 55' thread, a few more of the incidents and character moments that convinced me were:
The Long-Lost Daughter (soap trope #1 alert!) destroying her Heartless Absentee Mom's business for revenge. And she has come via the resort's own teleport without anyone noticing she has enough destructive kit to make Ace jealous. The Greedy Executive who can afford the funding to set up the holiday dome but still takes the Nice Eldery Lady's jewellery to show how mean and greedy she is.
The Super-Smart Kid who knows more than his Ordinary Joe dad and for no reason runs off from the one secure location so he can hide in a Very Dangerous Place instead and need rescuing. (Homage to Ripley rescuing Newt in 'Aliens'.)
The Nice Elderly Man saying to his Nice Elderly Lady Partner of 46 years: 'Two questions: Will you marry me? And will you kill me?' (Oh my! ) This would be clearly be physically impossible under the circumstances, since he was outside the vehicle and captive of the Dregs, and I can't believe that dialogue was intended to be serious. Which is why, I think, we didn't see him. That would have looked horrifying, but his words alone were simply ridiculous. Not to mention that the Nice Elderly Lady later going doolally and throwing herself at the Dregs was beyond parody, unless it was. ' Benniiiiiiii....' Etc. Etc. Etc.
And for the encore, "Global warming will turn ordinary people like us (Dregs!) into ravening monsters surviving on a barren Earth from where the rich exploiters have fled" reveal - and the Doctor's very very subtle message to the Fam at the end. I rest my case.
