Maybe the other Doctor is this 'timeless child'. Whoever she is she seemed pretty Ruthless...

That was a whirlwind watch! I think it’s hard to judge it really, as it doesn’t feel like a complete story, more of a tease of things to come.
I did enjoy it, though. Fantastic performance from Jodie, a really well paced episode that effortlessly flowed between the different story strands. I loved the shot of the Doctor walking up the lighthouse stairs and making her way onto the balcony. I liked the Doctor’s knee jerk reaction to Ryan’s comment towards the end, and Yaz’s quick defence of him. Nice to have the Judoon back too; I think they’re great!
I haven’t got a firm opinion on the other Doctor story strand yet. As I mentioned above, it felt like the beginning of things to come. The Doctor’s shock to discovering the buried TARDIS was a great moment.
I thought the weakest bit of the episode was Jack’s appearance. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just seemed to go through the motions as these cameos often do in film and television. Barrowman overdoing it, Jack written as his character in a nutshell. It was just quips and exposition really and I think I was distracted by how dark and obviously coloured John’s hair was!

It's funny that Chibnall was so "No big arcs, minimal returning characters and monsters" in S11 then this ep alone we've got Jack, a pre-Doctor Doctor, Gallifrey, another Gallifreyan, Judoon, references to The Master and Daleks and set up for not just the upcoming Cyberman ep but a lead in to next weeks ep. Who replaced Chibnall between seasons?

Simultaneously making the Other canon and the EDAs non canon, chibnall you madman (being sarcastic of course, canon doesn't matter but as a VNA fan well I'll keep my eye on the rest of this series and I had a great time despite some teething issues in the episode) EDAs, as in Big Finish or novels? I'm being a bit thick probably but how does this make them non Canon? As in novels, the reason why is a spoiler so... {Spoiler} The Doctor destroys Gallifrey in the novels As I said previously, canon really isn't too important in this show imo. I think you can find a way to make most things fit with another. No-one else is going to have your experience with the show so headcanon in or out what you don't like and just have fun! I know personally I'll go with the amnesia or that the Doctor doesn't really count the EDA situation (which could juuuuust work)!

So the official BBC SM Accounts are saying Tonight's episode was 😱! But don't worry, we are keeping the biggest spoilers to ourselves for 24 hours. Make sure you and your fellow TARDIS team catch up before then! Stable doors and Horses spring to mind LOL BFs Response

Robson, Cornell and Moran all gave him big praise, among others in the comments. Chibnall was listed as co-writer. Maybe he wrote the best bits and their praise is entirely misplaced? I would guess the showrunner does the bits that link the series together (ie the Capt Jack bits in this case) and steers the rest. It would be fascinating to know just how this one was put together

Hello again. And, once again that is why I avoid spoilers. At some points it did feel like a greatest hits episode from the Russell T. Davies era. However, what a blast! Thoroughly, enjoyed the humour that went with the action. This season has seen the Thirteenth Doctor really come into her own. Give her some jeopardy, some real mystery and she loses all the rainbows and smiles and shows that darker side to the Doctor's character. I do think the Vinay Patel did a great job of balancing the threads of story and stages the reveals well. His story last year was reverential and heartbreaking. This is very different and seems he to have had a great deal of fun. Jo Martin was very good as Ruth. I thought I recognised her. She was Miri's parole officer in Daisy Haggard and Laura Solon's sitcom Back to Life.
The big question is whether Mr. Chibnall can gather the threads within series 12 and turn them into a satisfying narrative. As Stubagful was very often saying of the Moffatt arcs, a mystery box is all very well but it had better have something worthwhile in it! I do hope that the rest of the series continues to surprise and entertain, if so, more please...

It's been so long since I read them and totally forgot about that.

He may have just written the two lines about cake and Chibnall had to do the rest! You're right Tony, this Vinay guy may be stealing poor Chibnall's thunder here!

LOL Regards mark687 That's very magnanimous of them, I'm sure no spoilers will be posted anywhere whatsoever for a full day. It's like being a safe driver - that doesn't really matter, everyone else has to be driving safely too for you to have no accidents. The Beeb not posting spoilers doesn't stop the millions of viewers and clickbait news sites from doing so. Still, only way to be sure is not be on social media right after an ep if you're going to watch it soon as Audio Watchdog just discovered to his cost!

Hello again.
It is so hard to avoid spoilers. I was so fed up by knowing everything that was coming in series 10 that I have now avoid them like the plague. It is so much better that the production office is more tight-lipped. That curtain-dropping reveal, so subtly done, during Spyfall was so much better not knowing it was coming. It is the same with tonight's explosive reveals. Obviously, we knew the Judoon were in it but they were the cover story hiding some truly interesting revelations and the hint of more to come during the rest of series 12.

I'm trying to think of the perfect eloquent words to sum that up but can't get much past HOLY F**KBALLS.
If you'd told me halfway through last series stand alone no knowledge required episodes where we'd be halfway through the next series, I'd have laughed in your face.
God knows where we go from here but I'm fully engaged for the first time in a long time.

Honestly it's really become quite easy these days with Chibnall Who to avoid them as so little actually leaks. No-one knew about The Master, no-one knew about Barrowman, or a pre-Doctor Doctor. I mean, yeah, we can guess things but this production crew are much, much tighter than their predecessors. Chibnall was the same on Broadchurch so he's clearly got the know-how on plugging the leaks better than most. Things like the Simm reveal in S10 wouldn't be happening now.

Well ... that was amazingly good fun! I'm not too sure where it's all going but I really did enjoy tonight's episode, it was a definite 5/5 on the entertainment scale. Fugitive of the Judoon could almost be part of the RTD era, it had that vibe to it. This is a good ride, roll on next week.

Simultaneously really enjoyed and really hated that episode. {Spoiler} The major twist was the one I was completely dreading. I know that I should wait and see how it goes down but... I don't have faith in Chibnall not to fu-- mess it up.
I'm pretty sure Ruth is going to turn out to be a pre-Hartnell incarnation which... makes no sense in regards to this episode.
How does Ruth have a TARDIS that resembles a phone box? Hartnell's Doctor clearly didn't have a TARDIS and stole one with the default design and it wasn't until he got to Totter's Lane that it got stuck so... what?

I have no idea what any of this means. Chibnall better have good answers for all of this.
I’m reminded of the last story of Ravenous 3, where on first listen it was quite effective but second time round not so much due to knowing what twists were coming. I suspect this story will be similar on rewatch. I think I’m so blindsided I can’t really judge it’s quality.
