The Doctor and gang arrive at the Villa Diodati, Lake Geneva, in 1816 – on a night that inspired Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The plan is to spend the evening soaking up the atmos in the presence of some literary greats – but the ghosts are all too real. And the Doctor is forced into a decision of earth-shattering proportions…

Can we assume that the “decision of earth-shattering proportions” is going to be what Jack was trying to warn the companions about?

Can we assume that the “decision of earth-shattering proportions” is going to be what Jack was trying to warn the companions about? In an episode set on the night Mary Shelley conceived Frankenstein I think we are going to see an appearance by a lone Cyberman. Also there is a mention of ghosts in the synopsis, could this be a sly nod to Army of Ghosts, preempting the return of the Cybermen?

Hello again.
It will be interesting to see a different take on this. I am currently reading Jeanette Winterson's recent version of Mary Shelley's writing of Frankenstein entitled Frankissstein.
I really enjoyed Big Finish's Mary Shelley series of stories. Let's hope this is a great addition to the Doctor Who story collection

Everyone online is already talking about how to fit it in with 8's travels with Shelley lol or of a possible cameo by McGann lol
I've just said Mindwipe as 13 did that at the start of this season lol

Bless them..it really doesn't matter. I'd be surprised if more than a few working on the show now are even aware BF had Mary as a companion and even more surprised if any of them cared enough to think they'd have to alter their story on TV to accomodate it. They can completely contradict the Mary trilogy if they want...it won't make the CD vanish from our shelves or the download from our accounts. I'd almost be more miffed if McGann DID show up as that should be for a big event ep - premiere, finale, special, anniversary or the like. He's done the unannounced surprise return in 2013..let him have a bit of build next time!

I forget who on here said it, but I use it as my default in these situations: When in doubt, blame the Time War.

I’m sure BF are already drafting a Time War box set explaining it.

I guess that works for some, or the Big Bang reset or any number of in-universe reasons but honestly things like canon, or the need to get everything into a set timeline of a-z events I've never been remotely interested in. The more expansive the show and the spin-offs has become has required so much jumping through hoops to justify anomalies it's redundant to the point of being a waste of time worrying about. I'm more inclined to think Basil Exposition's scene with Austin Powers summed it up best:

As regards to Mary,in a show about time travel and where things change all the time canon must be a rather nebulous thing surely.
Anyway, Canon be damned! The story is key.

Kate (Lethbridge-)Stewart, VOR(actyll), a hitherto-unknown Doctor - Chibnail is known for his brilliant and unique ideas, but come on! Putting the eighth Doctor's companion into episode *eight*? Is he trolling us now?
