So it was available 3 hours ago, and they only just tweeted this somewhat mundane notification 20 minutes ago. Very under the radar...

The return of Ian Reddington (one of the most memorable characters from Sylvester's time on Doctor Who), Chris Jury (who was once championed to play the Doctor) and Steven Wyatt (in his first script for Big Finish) is seen to be completely undermined by the actions of one individual. What a real shame.

Sadly I'm skipping this one. I love Greatest Show, but the presence of that individual means I'm not buying it.
I'm off to rewatch Great Show in the Galaxy and donate some money to a local lgbtqia+ charity instead.

Personally, I would have re-recorded the part to stop this release being blighted, but there might have been many reasons why that wasn't possible. Either way, it's out now and The Psychic Circus is part of my subscription so I will of course listen to it. However, the same arguments are going to resurface online somewhere and detract from the actual story, and that is sad.

What a real shame. I don't know if I see it that way, or at least I hope it's not that way. I was perfectly ready to boycott this but as others pointed out, a number of people worked hard on this. Indeed, it would seem a shame to let one person's actions ruin things for everyone. Frankly I thought everyone did a superb job starting with Stephen Wyatt, who I think should be commended in general, and on how well written his characters are that they'd grown on me so much, especially after a very bumpy start with some seeming rather caricaturesque. I guess objectivity about Dreyfuss' role came sort of automatically, I wasn't about to enjoy it because of his hobby that makes people unhappy, but I could step back and at least appreciate that he is able to bring a lot to the role, and I really enjoyed what everyone else was doing here. Great work by everyone, and notably by Ian Reddington and Sylvester, in my opinion.

Odd one this
Don't go in expecting an overall sense of tragedy this is very much a story of easily corrupted ambition leading to somewhat Just Deserts . Its hard to see why the Master was included as he undercuts the Chief Clown to an even more toady stooge, having said that, Ian Reddington gives the same off-putting performance. Slv's in full Cosmic Chess mode which is great.
Overall then its Ok bits of it work the main thrust though doesn't fit.

He's already been paid and Big Finish has terminated their relationship, so no amount of purchases or boycotts will affect the outcome or future coming out of this release.

If I boycotted everything because I disagreed with the some aspect of the views of someone involved I would likely end up boycotting 99% of the stuff I buy.
My own view is that we live in an imperfect, fallen world full of imperfect, fallen people and whatever I might like to think I'm just as fallen and imperfect as everyone else. You either withdraw from the world altogether and join a cult or go into seclusion or else you engage with people you dislike/disagree with and end up compromising and getting your hands dirty.

How does it fare as a prequel story by the way?

I'm only 20 minutes into episode 1 but I'm really enjoying this so far. I'm a sucker for stories about creativity vs authoritarianism.

I'm about halfway through this and honestly am loving it. It's definitely following up on the ideas of Paradise Towers and Greatest Show, and I think Wyatt is attempting to do what he attempted in Paradise Towers with themes of falling apart and decay not let down by a poor production. Dreyfus as always is excellent as the Master, though I will agree I don't know why the Master was necessary for inclusion? McCoy is also on top form, though as I'm only halfway through things could take a turn for the worse.

I don't really get the fuss about what Dreyfuss has said though tbh. I'm fully with him when it comes to having no time for nonsense words like terf, cis and incel. Words like these should be confined to Tumblr I think.

I've only heard part one so far, but this lose mash-up of The Greatest Show in the Galaxy and The Happiness Patrol really works for me. I love the Doctor singing while he's juggling, I love the eccentric dialogue - very true to how it was in the Cartmel era - and I love the creepy tones of the Master cutting a swathe through the enforced jollity. And Ian Reddington hasn't even turneds up yet! This is shaping up to be my favourite Seventh Doctor release for a very long time. I really hope Steven Wyatt hasn't been put off by the experience and writes more for Big Finish.

I never liked Dreyfus as the Master, or in fact in any role I’ve ever seen him in, so never intended to get this story, but you’re slowly selling me on it.
