I think you are supposed to like this era because... (insert reasons it's progressive / significant / breaks barriers etc.) But if you don't like it, that's fine. I disliked the Ten/Rose lurrrve story utterly and her 'family background' stuff with 'real people just like us' and that in its day was also supposed to be 'ground-breaking' etc. etc. (Oddly enough I do like some of the Ten/Rose stories more than any other New Who pre-Capaldi!)
Jodie's first season was 50/50 imo but with a few standout episodes (excellent 'Demons of the Punjab' was top of my list) and I took to Ryan and Graham instantly, but then her second season... fabulous, I loved it. Right up to the final episode which I didn't love so much. Or indeed at all, not one little bit in fact; I hated it! So sometimes it really is "the writing".
And it's our individual choice, so keep making it and stating it; that's what the forum is for. (FWIW my choice is that Peter Capaldi should have piloted the TARDIS with Bill & Nardole for another three seasons, minimum. Best New Who team ever! )

So just Thirteen and Yaz for Series 13 then. I like all these companions but this will be a nice new dynamic. & all the fans shipping 13 & Yaz will be pleased but I doubt the show will go there. We haven't seen Ravio in the trailer but I felt they were hinting at Graham & Ravio getting together which would be nice. & of course Ryan has a second chance with his father. I can imagine Aaron turning up again.

Why do i get the feeling Chibbs is gonna do a Clara and ME with Ruth and Yaz on top of On Point News which is not unexpected but ethier way it means the Ep has a heck of a lot to address.
Leaves the danger of having 13 no one to bounce off which is Jodie's strong point.

I hated that aspect of the ending to Hell Bent (but that’s a much lengthier topic for another thread)! But I suppose 13 and Jack could be a fun TARDIS team if that does happen and I would look forward to the inevitable RuthDoctor and Yaz BF boxset!

Hello again.
Trying to avoid spoilers, so usually give this thread a wide berth. However, I couldn't avoid the news on the BBC news website that, Tosin Cole and Bradley Walsh were not staying for series 13.
It was inevitable that three companions was unsustainable. I enjoyed Bradley Walsh in the first season particularly but he seemed to fade into the background in season 12.
I have found Tosin Cole's character very underwhelming. I'm not sure why, the actor is good but I don't think the writing works in places. Somw of Ryan's dialogue is stilted, now I'm wondering if that is a manifestation of his dyspraxia.
I know myself when your brain is struggling to think of the right word, expression is the first vocal quality that goes.
I think him and Yaz made a good team. There was also a great rapport between Graham and Ryan. I really need to grit my teeth and rewatch Seasons 11 and 12. Even that awful snorefest Battle of Ransk... Sorry nodded off even trying to write out the title!
Generally, though I enjoyed both actors in their respective roles and wish them well for the future.

I will miss Ryan and Graham. I agree with doctorkernow that Graham became a little redundant in this latest series, but Ryan developed into a kind of gentle, quieter character that I think will be missed a lot. Bradley Walsh could be seen as a 'big name', so I'm wondering if Captain Jack really will hop aboard the TARDIS for a series or two to replace him. I would be very happy if he did. Whatever else, I'm happy to spending more time with my favourite, Yaz!

So just Thirteen and Yaz for Series 13 then. The year won't even be one day old and there goes 2021.
Take three Companions, lose the best two. With all due respect to Yaz fans, imo it's like discovering a terrible parallel reality where only Adric survived 'Earthshock'...
(OK I do jest a bit and accept the parallel isn't exact , but imo Yaz has had one really excellent story in two seasons. And like 'Earthshock', it's one of my favourite stories. But otherwise, she was most often the one left without much of a storyline and consequently, much of an impact)

Actually, I find her a slow-burner of a character. Not instantly at the forefront of things like, perhaps Bill for example, but always quietly capable, loyal and to me, rather lovely. The little insights into her past life as seen in Series 12, that her past has not been an altogether happy one, and that she has been a little under-appreciated, warms me to her no end. I think there's still time for her to win you round, number13!

Sad to see Graham leaving, but I'm looking forward to 13 and Yaz. I hope they just give them a series by themselves instead of trying to introduce a new companion right away.

I think there's still time for her to win you round, number13 ! Let's hope so! I do like liking characters, especially when they're obviously good people with good intentions. I think Yaz has been generally under-written and I thought 'Can You Hear Me?' was a case in point. I completely missed the full importance of her backstory which was suddenly just there at the end, popped into the last five minutes and I thought feeling quite disconnected from the all-action rest of the episode.
'Demons', 'Spyfall' and the later Cyber-stories were the times I thought she really got a chance for some of the limelight - for someone who is a trainee police officer she does seem surprisingly 'in the background' a lot of the time imo compared with someone like Bill, I agree, or imo compared with most other Companions new or classic.
Maybe if it is just her and the Doctor now, the writers will have to give Yaz the scripts to make her a more (looking for the right word here) noticable character? We'll see.

Watching the trailer
“Hey remember when we had that Dalek invasion back in 2009 and last year when that Dalek creature massacred all those soldiers”
“Yeah”
“Wouldn’t it be great to create our own drones of them to protect the country”
“Wait wouldn’t the general public freak out thinking the Daleks have invaded”
“.....it will be fine”
