Hands up who's surprised... Nobody? Nobody? Didn't think so somehow. I think after his brief appearance we all thought he would appear again soon and with no surprise in the season finale this would be the next logical spot. I think we'd have been disappointed if he didn't show up. I'm disappointed he is showing up.

Bit disappointed that the Resolution design seems to be the permanent Dalek design of the Chibnall era. It was fine as a one-off but I was hoping they'd go back to the RTD Daleks for the special. (Also, it kind of doesn't make much sense in-universe for them to all look like the Recon Dalek now because that Dalek casing was a cobbled-together design...) It hasn't been confirmed that the new version is the permanent design. There were leaked images of Daleks as they appeared from 2005. Yeah, I know the set leaks had the 2005 design, but the poster seems to have a lot of the Resolution Daleks in the background, suggesting that they're the default version now. {Spoiler} Although given the RTD Daleks are in this in some format, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of Dalek civil war going on in this episode. That or the RTD Daleks are the 'higher' class and the Resolution-esque Daleks are just the foot soldiers.

Some of the behind-the-scenes footage released during Series 12 kind of gave it away when it showed him being directed by the director of ROTD rather than FOTJ.

Character widely assumed to be in the special is in the special. Ok.
So, erm, are we ever going to get a trailer?

The continuity announcer said that there'd be more news soon, but whether that means later tonight or this week or this month or what, is anybody's guess.

It's certainly very exciting to see Jack on the teaser poster and in the trailer for this. I'm still not over the surprised of his return and I can't wait to see him meet Thirteen.

Matt Strevens also suggested there's something else soon, hopefully the trailer.

Ooh, it's got the press-down-to-pop-up concertina head of the New Paradigm Daleks!

Another look at the Dalek, or is it the vicar of dibley? Inside, Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall states "It's deliberately different from all those Daleks we've had on screen before. They light up at night with red lights for a start. There are just small, different details, like the number and shape of whatever you call those things on the side of the Daleks… which I suppose in a festive special you'd call baubles! And changes to the little things adorning the Daleks — new slats and different layers around the dome. It harks back to the Reconnaissance Dalek in Resolution. It's almost like that might be a plot point…"I wonder, is this a Dalek made by humans? What happened to the remains of the Reconnaissance Dalek in Resolution?

It looks like its wearing a Pit Helmet, mid 20th Century Bevin Boy style. "Best come quickly Doctor, there's trouble down t'pit". Could've been in the shops for Xmas, given the lead time since production and foreknowledge of its existence.

Well from the blurry filming pics that got out, it’s looking more and more likely that it’s actually the Sontarans this time.

Again, not sure about the armour redesign, but it might be a case of it looking better on screen than the filming pics.

The design looks better here, even if I'm still not 100% sold on it. It shows it off better here than the poster. And in regards to that plot point, I think a lot of people have sussed it already... {Spoiler} I'm pretty convinced that these Daleks are man-made, rather than 'proper' Daleks. Probably made by MDZ Research with the remains of the Recon Dalek from Resolution. Or maybe that rumour about Jack Robertson from Arachnids is true and it's him.
Either way, I'm pretty sure we're heading for a Daleks v Daleks showdown.

It could be a lot of fun if they did a 'Rambo' or 'First Blood' style scenario where they try to 'bring him in' and he shows what skills he has picked up out in the fields (well, Victorian London). Absolute carnage for the rookie clone fodder whilst Captain Jack does the wise-ass Richard Crenna mediator stuff. It's a winner....
