The only piece of casting that gives me pause is Kat Denning as Death. I like her as a screen actor but don't know that she has the vocal skills to carry the part off. Still, I know what I'll be using my July credit for.

Taron Egerton as Constantine and NOT Matt Ryan? SHAME! FOR SHAME I SAY! He is the only casting choice that concerns me. He's a good actor but not a good voice actor, he was the weakest thing in the Dark Crystal tv show.

It’s only a brief snippet I know but McAvoy really sounds excellent in this.

its getting harder and harder to not have an audible subscription. tell me about it, i took the plunge last year to get a subscription, and on the whole its been great, as you can put it on hold for three months (no payments) and still have access to all the downloads you have in your account... and the sound quality of audible has improved so much the last couple of years too... I've been lucky with Audible sending me a "come back we miss you" discount every so often (I got Transference from Big Finish that way for a fraction of the cost). This is easily at the top of my wishlist, even though I'm admittedly not too familiar with the source material. Dirk Maggs is all kinds of incredible, so I'm looking forward to jumping in. I wish he could have gotten a chance at audio Doctor Who.

It's out today! I've listened to the first episode. As someone who hasn't read the comics, I'm already in love with it. Gaiman at his finest and a story that just gets really dark though going into the second episode there's almsot a difference in tone with Cain and Abel feeling comedic.

well I'm 5 episodes in now.......and yes it really good
the audio brings to mind the comics images but also clarifies the narrative that the comic sometimes doesn't make clear...
yes its a bit heavy on narration and I don't think Gaiman is the best narrator, but that don't really matter its hugely ambitious thing to tackle and for the most part gets it right.....
i hope we get more.....Gaimans 80's90's comic book works and much of that eras vertigo range are ripe for this kind of adaption lets hope it does well enough to get the rest of sandman adapted and then maybe his books of magic mini series.......we can but dream.....lol

For those who have gotten a chance to listen to it would you say the final product is worth ‘the price of admission’ if you will?
I’ve heard good things about it so far with only a few complaints regarding Taran Edgerton’s portrayal of John Constantine.

I like Edgerton though I don't really know the character of Constantine (not a comics reader and this is my first exposure to The Sandman) and bought this because Gaiman.

IT’s more than worth a credit, Constantine is in it for only a few minutes.......he’s fine in the role for what there is. try it what you got to lose, audible will refund ya. Credit if ya hate it, but you won’t I’m sure........ if you read the comics, it’s not going to disappoint as it’s an adaptation of them, using the narration and speech direct from them, making them work for audio.........not taking the story and writing an audio drama of it.......so you lose nothing in translation clocking in at almost 11 hours the value is immense, compared to big finish’s box sets

Sandman is one of my favorite pieces of fiction ever and I've been enjoying this quite a bit. I have my graphic novel open and I'm reading it for the visuals as I'm going along with the story. McAvoy is excellent as Morpheus, and although I would have preferred Matt Ryan as Constantine, I thought Egerton did a good job of it. And they pronounced his name correctly!!
The biggest disappointment has been Kat Dennings. I think she is terribly miscast, and it was a huge disappointment. Death is one of my favorite characters ever. I have her hanging on my wall and painted on a beautiful leather jacket. Maybe I was expecting too much, but Dennings just doesn't have the vocal chops for it. There was absolutely no depth to the character as she was portrayed in the audio, which is the absolute opposite of how she should sound. And there is absolutely no vocal chemistry with McAvoy, so the relationship between Death and Dream just doesn't work for me here. It's a damn shame.

i got the set for christmas finally got around to listening . i read the comics 4 ever a go. gaiman is a surprisingly good narrator. i have a few cd left to go.
ok i finished and i didn't love it and didnt think it was that great. i cant believe they put the element woman episode in. a dc character gaiman admits no one remembers. so they did an episode with element woman and a bit of death and no sandman. i just dont get that episode. im hoping the netflix series is much much better than this
