Just had my second Vaccine a few hours ago. I tried going on my morning walk like I normally do, but I felt too dizzy and nauseous. So I had to have my mom pick me up and drive me home. I know it’s silly but I feel guilty if I don’t get at least 10,000 steps a day, but I know I should stay home since I feel bad. I think I will stay in and have a tv day just to be safe.

Right. Our company doctor has booked me in for my first shot with AZ tomorrow (our big boss got hold of some unwanted doses). Luckily Thursday is a public holiday, since most people I know had side effects and my sister had fever for 3 days. We will see...

Oy...
The kiddo keeps bringing colds home. I suppose it's somewhat my fault, since I have indulged his desire to poke at my teeth (his have been coming in for a bit and he seems curious). And then when he pulls his hand away, I see it's covered with tidbits collected from around the floor, despite having vacuumed.....

First dose of Astra Zeneca. I feel like run over by a bus. Pain in my arm, shivers and light fever. (I react to most vaccinations quite strongly). Today is a public holiday, I guess I will spend the day on the couch. And depending on how I feel tomorrow, take sick leave. Luckily, not everybody of our team was vaccinated on the same day, so we can even out the sick days.

Mine lasted less than 24 hours and paracetamol smothered the symptoms quite well. Still, it proves your immune system is taking notice and getting to work!
(Always look on the bright side. )

So even though I am fully vaccinated, I have to test negative within 3 days before I head to the UK and 3 days before I come home. I get why, I'm ok with that. But here is where it goes wrong...The UK wants a different test to enter than the US does to come home. IF I was going for a general COVID test here in the US, the test itself is free. If you have insurance, they bill the insurance company for the work of the staff and labs, but I went and got one months ago without insurance and it was free. But to go to get a test for travel I have to pay, and pay a lot. $100-$150 US, whether you go to a clinic or do a home test. So I get the home test for the PCR test I need to get into the UK for $118. The test I need to get back is $150.
This just pisses me off. It's exorbitant.

As someone working in a lab, doing these tests... material and personal costs for one PCR test are about 40 Euro (that is roughly 50 $). Before tax.
It is so expensive by now because the base materials (plastic lab material as well as buffer solutions) are highly sought after world- wide and in short supply.
So someone is earning quite a bit from charging people who would like to travel.

It's exorbitant. and don’t forget the 10 days of quarantine upon entering the uk I am sorry it pisses you off but It’s a good thing it costs so much........ sorry but it’s to prevent unnecessary travel.......we don’t need to fly round the world at the moment.......and if we do we need to be able to pay, bring a variant that evades the vaccine will incur unimaginable costs to the country...... 2 doses does not mean immunity we need to vaccinate the world before we can think about travel......... travel got the world in a mess and should be the last thing that gets restored....... we currently battling increases in the Indian variant we need to restrict movement....... I should have been spending 3 weeks in Disney world now, but I understand the need to prevent it. if we in the uk want to travel we have to pay for three tests approx £350 in total and only allowed to travel to 12 countries without quarantine on return....... we cannot use the free tests........ it’s all horrible but by staying home we save 1 extra life it’s worth it.

I just checked USA is on the amber list which means you have to Quarantine for 10 days on arrive at a designated address,
These are the current uk rules from May 17th.......
They are to be reviewed every two weeks adding and removing counties to and from the various lists
So unless your trip is Abel to factor in the quarantine period, I would think twice about if it’s worth traveling.......
Sorry if am the bearer of bad news but best to be aware of our rules

I am, but I'm not doing what many are on Facebook and putting a frame up on their profile to shout about it as I know more than a few people with anxiety over not being able to get one of the vaccines yet. I'd rather not rub their noses in it when it's something that a lot of countries are struggling with.

I personally would like a bit more information about how they came up with these vaccinations in such a short time when history shows it takes years etc.. Plus there has been about 9(?) cases of blood clots recently in Australia due to 1 of the vaccines according to our newspaper. My wife almost died from bloodclots years ago I had to call 000.. Her doctor and specialist has told her not to until "the aforementioned" improves a bit.
I think my state's fatality toll is still on 4 from 1 year ago so all the preventative measures in place seem to be working. I unfortunately know 3 people who are 101% adamant the whole thing is a scam/scamdemic/planDEMIC.. blah blah blah..
ggrrr

"Wartime"/Apollo program level of resourcing and effort in multiple advanced countries/economies is the answer as to how they did it so quickly - on top of the extensive research and discoveries made in the field over the last decade.
I've heard more than one scientist say, in so many words, that we're very lucky this didn't hit us 10 or 20 years ago. Exactly what they did, don't ask me!, but they've succeeded multiple times and independently in several countries, using different approaches to vaccine development.

^^ The modern miracle of gene sequencing plus all the technology, for example, of producing new flu vaccines each year plus massive international cooperation because it was new and terrified most of the world's governments. And even Bozo's lot throwing billions at Oxford labs to get on with it - a sensible decision!
Dr Zhang Yongzhen of Shanghai released the sequence online back on 11th January 2020, a day before the authorities closed them down. (Just a coincidence, obviously.)
