Give that waning moon a good happy howl, Wolfie...
Three-quarter howl for a three-quarter moon. I thought I'd wait a day before giving an update. I've had a few of the usual side-effects, tiredness, a tad dizzy, that sort of thing, but, as of today, I'm otherwise back to my usual health. A little biological curiosity along the way: I got the injection in my dominant arm (closest to the nurse). Over the course of the day, I got a warm sympathetic nerve receptor feeling in my other arm. The one I'd used for injections in the past. Isn't the human body fascinating? I'm sure a competent biologist would be able to explain the phenomenon. Anyway, all done, all well and all good. Oh that is easy. Same reason acupuncture works.
As you know, all nerves are collected up in nerve ganglia and in the brain, they are also cross connected. Your two brain hemispheres do talk to each other, this is why you only cut the bridge in very serious conditions that cannot be treated any other way.
So when you for example put a needle in liver 6 (at least I think that was that one.... never took the course) on the foot, it has an impact on the liver, or when I get the needle at the top of my head (which is supposedly for calming down) can cause nightmares. I had a friend who did the acupuncture course and I was the voluntary pincushion...

See, I was waiting for that. That is genuinely fascinating. I'm reminded of the phantom pain condition and the sensation that amputees have at the nub of the limb that "reminds", for want of a better word, the nervous system of the missing appendage. That acupuncture course sounds like it could've been rough. I wonder why the pressure point for tranquillising is so close to unconscious terror? A twinge, a little prompting, of the centres in the brain that negotiate survival impulses? Double jabbed here... but i do work for the nhs. That's certainly the hope. Our problem here is currently distribution, so I'll likely be having a second jab of AstraZeneca by October (if not sooner).

A twinge, a little prompting, of the centres in the brain that negotiate survival impulses? There is a rule in acupuncture. The begin of treatment can make it worse. Just at the start. That is a sign that it works (as crazy as that sounds). So when I told my friend that she caused nightmares, she was absolutely happy because it means she did it right and hit the right spot. Naturally, I was less impressed.
I assume first triggering the point and adding stimulation, the nerves start firing wildly as a reaction. But that is my theory.

I'm waiting for the booster. I've been fully vaccinated since February, so it's been 6 months. They keep hinting that we are going to need the booster, but haven't really settled on it yet. I wish they would just err on the side of caution and make it available for us.

I wish they would just err on the side of caution and make it available for us. Problem is, the WHO cautions that first, everybody needs their first vaccination before rich countries can boost their people. I think old and weak people and medical staff should get the booster, however, I too see it very critical boosting normal healthy people. Because the problem we are running into now is that the virus mutates in the developing poorer countries and the new mutants are resistant to the vaccinations. So it will hurt all of us. The rich countries have been very selfish so far, and with Delta mutant (and a few new ones) we see that WHO is right with telling us off. I think it would be much more effective to get herd immunity by enforcing vaccination of all the refusers. But that of course is much harder than denying the poor countries. A first world problem that is a WHOLE world problem now.

Yes, I was watching a virtual talk at Glasgow University with a virologist from the CDC in the US and she said all this talk of "herd immunity" only works if you shut your doors 100% and become isolated. As, even if you are a country with a very strong vaccine rate (and I think the UK is #1 or 2 now) then you are reliant on every visitor coming from a place with the exact same level of immunity which is clearly impossible at the moment with the hoarding, the lack of support for the developing nations and certain countries leadership being anti-vaxxers. In essence if we don't vaccinate the world then the strains will become more common and, more worryingly, find a way through the vaccines we do have. Her opinion was that the nature of COVID means it's very unlikely to be eradicated any time soon but instead will join the 200 or so seasonal diseases that are currently contagious without a cure.

Yep, it will become a common cold virus. Just needs to adapt to its new host first, because the dangerous strains are aberrations. Give it a few years.

Off topic but just wondering; number13 and causality, both good contributors on this fine forum, haven't been on for months. Let's hope it is as simple as they have lost interest, and not COVID-19 related. I'm sure there are other regulars too, but those two sprang to mind.

I get the impression that every now and then Causality needs time away from the forum so deletes his member account and, after a while, reappears (sometimes with a different username) so another disappearance isn't necessarily cause for concern. I'm not as familiar with number13's patterns so I can't comment. Either way, I hope both are well (or, if either is not, hope that they make a good recovery)

We request that if users need a break from the forum, they just take a break, rather than deleting their accounts and re-registering. In any case, I'm hoping that both @causality and number13 are well and just needed some time away.

Seems like some people don't give a damn about other people's health. My friend and his husband went to pride in Brighton……both took precautions both my friend double jabbed, his hubby single jabbed but both caught COVID n his husband was hospitalised but 2 weeks later he passed …… there just deluded idiots who need rounding up………I have zero time for them

Seems like some people don't give a damn about other people's health. Have yours already done arson attacks on vaccination centres and changed out thousands of vaccination doses with saline solution? Because ours (Germany) did that. Most of their leaders have now fled the country and are now searched for by Police for extremism charges. And the vaccination centre attack people are now investigated as possible terrorism.

Yep. If people want to protest vaccination without masks and social distancing, I've got no time for them but a certain Mr. Darwin probably has an "award" he'd like to give them.
Perhaps on the other end of the despicable stick, our state of the USA and the one next door are seeing record hospital admissions even after 60% of people have been vaccinated. I suspect our state's vaccination ad campaign that tried to make everyone think that if they got jabbed, they couldn't spread the virus, may have played a fairly big role in lulling people into a false sense of security and foregoing precautions.
I suspect this may be what precipitated the spikes. Made the locals as misguided as the antis I suppose? Worse they were still running the ad on places like YouTube even after the CDC said precautions should still be observed. I think I saw it last not a week ago.
Probably not a good time for anybody to be full of you know what?
Everyone please do stay careful!
