Considering the way BF are rearranging their schedules, quite possibly we might get this in.... oo, fourteen months rather than eighteen? Also, they probably felt they needed to respond to the speculation and excitement (cheers, dorney, for answering my paranoid conspiracy theory).
I mean, I’d be surprised if it was bumped up the schedule so soon after being announced. (I’m genuinely a bit baffled as to why the time frame for this one has got everyone so on edge!)
Outside of the obvious circumstances going on in the world with people like me genuinely wondering if some of us will be around in November of next year to enjoy this, I think it was more a little bit of surprise. Big Finish announcements in respect to release dates have altered recently with there being a much shorter time elapsing between the two. So I think it is less “on edge” and more a little bit of surprise.

I appreciate it was my own assumption, but I doubt I was the only one to have expected more based on what was stated.
Is it ever too early to gain pre-orders? We all need something to look forward too, now more than ever.
Plus I can never get enough Fourth Doctor news.
Oh, I know you’re not. I expected a news story too!
(I suspect it’s more a question of getting an extra hit of publicity with another article/release nearer the time. There’ll already be pre-orders from the announcement, I doubt you’d gain more a few weeks later...)
