I'm surprised to see so many people still focusing on Return of the Cybermen. The other release is so much more exciting. John Lloyd's Doomsday Contract adapted by Nev Fountain and presumably starring Tom and Lalla? To be fair, the article doesn’t focus on it either. There’s a brief mention of there being another title and that’s it. I’d never heard of it until I clicked on the link, and even then I thought it was a Sixth Doctor release! John Lloyd is indeed interesting, and I’ve since had a google about The Doomsday Contract. There’s loads of potential there, with it being Season 17, by Lloyd and adapted by Nev Fountain. I’m amazed I haven’t heard about it before. Same here. The name rings a bell, but I couldn't really tell you anything about it... 'An interesting announcement & will certainly looking forward to pre-order it a little bit closer to release!

Fountain & Season 17 seem like such a good fit - it's a wonder we haven't seen the combo before.

Interesting! More Tom Baker is always a pre-order for me and the writers and stories sound like a perfect fit. I've long thought that Four should have had more Cyberman stories on TV so I'm extra excited for that. I'm also very curious to see if the re-castings occur. I wasn't interested in them for a long time, but Big Finish won me over on re-castings with the Third Doctor Adventures and I trust that they'll be done right if they do.

Out of curiosity, is there a specific reason as to why these two Lost Stories are gonna be released in 2021, and not this year?

As a guess.
Tom Baker's lines might be recorded already, but they have stopped recording for everybody else at the moment.

So no word if they did recasts for Sarah Jane & Harry? And November of 2021? I guess I don't have to rush order it then. Recasts are possibly the "further details" that will be released in the next DWM?

Tom Baker's lines might be recorded already, but they have stopped recording for everybody else at the moment. As far as I’m aware they’re both completely recorded. When people spotted the Return thing on twitter earlier this year (pre virus) Nick said it wasn’t going to be out this year. I don’t know why things come out when they come out, but it’s usually just a question of what else is being released and when and keeping things balanced.

And thx for the reassurance. By the way, looking forward to hearing the Lost Story!

We're all assuming that it's Sadie Miller for Sarah - does anyone have any wild predictions for who would play Harry? Hmm... I'm still not convinced that they'll use these characters, but some years ago (on this forum, or perhaps its predecessor) I suggested this actress for Sarah, who played a very Sarah Jane Smithy journalist character in 1996's "Quatermass Memoirs" on Radio 3.
It's been years since I heard the 'Quatermass' radio series, but the example clips on that website strike me as a good place to start from to train somebody up to a Sladeny voice.
(Actually, granting that there will be recasts, it's interesting that the two BF projects that most interest me in future are this series of 4th Doctor and the upcoming 3rd Doctor series with two recast actors. But purchasing twenty months in advance is offputting).
To be fair, the article doesn’t focus on it either. There’s a brief mention of there being another title and that’s it. I think this is about the Doctor testifying in a court case when somebody tries to buy the Earth at auction. Which explains that misleading 'Lost Stories' cover - when you hear the words 'courtroom' and 'Baker', you naturally think of Colin B and not Tom...

If they have recast Sarah & Harry (and hopefully successfully) could this be an opening for a full cast dramatisation of 'Scratchman', I wonder? Getting it to sound like a proper 70's British Fantasy Film would be the big challenge. More a Ray Harryhausen or Doug McClure affair than Star Wars or Star Trek TMP. I'd buy it, if it was done in the right spirit.

I love Tom to bits but I would prefer a 2 hour dramatisation of Scratchman than an 8 disc audiobook. That audiobook is amazing, though. While I believe Big Finish would do an amazing job with it, Scratchman is such a heavily visual story that I think a novelization was the better medium for it. Not that I wouldn't want to see a full cast version, but so many of the sequences would be difficult to do without heavy exposition.

Tom’s reading of the book already feels like the definitive and best version of that. I all honesty the story isn’t that great, but the performance of it is. If Big Finish want to slot new adventures into Season 12 I would prefer stories that aren’t already available on audio.

I think the book itself, if I had bought the self reading version of it, might not have held my attention, especially in the second part of it. But Tom's narration is outstanding work.
I also do not think a full cast drama/ animated version would be able to improve on that.

Is this the first Big Finish story to feature Revenge style Cybermen? Apparently not, going by the trailer, which features 'Invasion' style cybersuits. This seems appropriate given what is discussed in the news piece regarding the 60's tone and feel of the original script, updated for a 1975 vibe and with input from Tom. They were quite visual, 'Disco' style though weren't they (shiny suits, flares, hands on hips, emotional)?

No matter, it was just an idea. I have the audiobook via Audible as well as the Hardback, but listening to it, I could not get into it, as I prefer things to play out in real time. When a narrator is describing something that is happening, things go sloowww, and I get restless.
