Interesting question on Twitter. That’s an interesting response since it seems to contradict the original news article, about how they tweaked it slightly to fit “comfortably” into S12...

I was hoping for a sound bite from Sarah and possibly Harry in the new trailer. Ah well, Tom sounds in his element.
It’s interesting to see that this isn’t necessarily going to fit as another Season 12/13 story and more of an alternate take on Revenge of the Cybermen. That sounded like part of Sadie Miller’s reasoning for playing Sarah Jane in her DWM interview too, though she does say she’d happily reprise the role at the end.
I was wondering if it’s because of how precious people are of Sarah Jane and the thought of recasting her, where doing an alternate story would get more approval than if Sadie was doing a season of the 4DAs. I’m not sure, though, as a Doctor has been recast and so has the Brigadier. I’d have thought they’d be on the same level as Sarah, if we were to rank.

If people want stories with certain Doctors and certain companions they need to stop being so precious. I continue to go back to The Five Doctors. Once the BBC recast the 1st Doctor the door was well and truly opened. I mean if you are a 3rd Doctor fan and you aren't listening to the 3rd Doctor series with Tim Trelor, you are missing out on some fantastic 3rd Doctor era Doctor Who.

I suppose it's rather sad that I've already got an idea how to reconcile the two stories, eighteen months in advance of hearing the new one. Well, at least nobody can tell me (in the current circumstances) that I need to get out more. {Spoiler}I'll give you a clue - "A Device of Death" has something to do with it, unless "Return" contradicts that as well by maintaining the continuity error in relation to the Doctor's coat.

Interesting question on Twitter. Honestly, I don't mind. I'd rather hear the story as it would have been then a version altered to match continuity. This also might open up more options for potential Lost Stories, as it no longer matters if they align with "canon."

Looking forward to hearing Sadie Miller in the role. I continue to grow more comfortable with re-castings and I'm feeling positive about this one.

Interesting question on Twitter. It fits with the original Shada. Or maybe the animation...

I was a bit nervous before the 3DAs Vol 1 but that lasted about 5 minutes into 'Prisoners of the Lake' and then it was like the decades had rolled away.
So if Sadie Miller would like to play Sarah in further stories that would be perfect and I for one would really love to hear a series of the 4DAs set in the gap before 'Terror of the Zygons'.
And now we know who would play Liz and Sarah and the Brig., I'd also love some 3DAs set during S7 & S11 - not instead of our annual set of Three+Jo stories of course, but special extra sets OK BF?
All of which leaves the obvious question for Third Doctor fans... "I am the Master and who will play me...?"

I'm actually looking forward to hearing Sadie Miller perform the beloved companion. She and her mum are very much alike, after listening to the Sarah Jane Smith audios and watching the BBC Breakfast interview (from 2011).

Still, very much looking forward to it!

Calling people "precious" for not sharing your opinion is uncalled for, condescending, and frankly, quite rude.

I think that's your interpretation based on your own opinion, rather than the intention. I can't speak for @audio Watchdog, but mine was far from being a criticism, let alone being rude or condescending of someone. Perhaps "protective" would have been a better choice of word than "precious" - I didn't even state my personal opinion of recasts. I was just trying to offer speculation on why Big Finish made the decision that they did. I am neither strongly for or against recasts, my heart tells me whether it feels "right" or not, and more importantly, whether I am actually interested in the product.

Recasts are something I am always initially reticent about. And then I hear how good they often are, and my misgivings fade away. Best case in point - Tim Treloar as Doctor Three is now the Big Finish Third Doctor. And his 'team' Jon Culshaw and Daisy Ashford have become instantly established in their recastings. If anyone other than Elizabeth Sladen were to play Sarah, it would have to be Sadie Miller, and I look forward to hearing her.

Dyed in the wool geek that I am, I'd have preferred the version that didn't contradict established continuity
But very much looking forward to it.
Does this recast open up the possibility of a resolution to the cliffhanger in BF's own SJS series?

Maybe it's just my thoughts but when even the TV show constantly contradicts itself then it's all canon and none of it's canon.

Language matters. "Precious" is denigrating condescension. "Protective," as suggested above, would have been a simple disagreement over opinions without the unnecessary put-down.
