Hey guys, I just wanted to point out that the Big Finish forums were EXTREMELY important for the development of my app Undulib. Thanks everyone If it's okay, I'd like to use this post to keep everyone updated on changes. If the mods rather I didn't do that here just let me know App store link
Undulib.comIf you have an iOS device and like audiodramas/audiobooks you'll probably like Undulib. Undulib will keep the audiodramas separated from the audiobooks and supports embedded chapters. Not to mention this will fix the issues you've been having when you try to play audiobooks on iOS 8.4

I submitted an update that adds support for iOS 9's multitasking/split-screen feature.

I'll put my hand up in support of this app too. Apple's moving of audiobooks into their ebook reader broke the way my stuff was organised, but Undulib brought it all back, and more.

Question here, does this app need to use iTunes, i.e if someone doesn't use iTunes at all will the app still work? And if it does work without iTunes, any chance of a Linux desktop release?

It uses iTunes. Basically it's a replacement for the Music or iBooks app (depending on which iOS version). I figured I would have less problems if I let iTunes do all the file syncing. This way Undulib only needs to read what is present on the device. Also, trying to get files to sync to an iDevice, unless you're Apple, is kind of clunky.
If I ever make an Android version (it's planned but won't be for a while), I won't be using something like iTunes. It will probably be the more traditional "drag n drop" files to a folder and Undulib will scan the directory.

Thanks for the reply.
I would love a desktop version of the app, basically because even with the glut of audio players and media managers that I can install I've yet to find one that understands or deals at all well with audio drama.
I'd love something that allowed me to organise, explore and listen to my collection properly.

*sigh* have never understood why when iOS is Unix and Andriod is Linux, that making Linux releases of either of those is such a hard job, not getting at you notthebigfinishforum.freeforums.net/user/14 just a general observation.

never understood why when iOS is Unix and Android is Linux, that making Linux releases of either of those is such a hard job Great question! I can provide some context Mostly, it has to do with frameworks. So yeah, "Mac OS X"/iOS is Unix, but everything you build uses Apple's proprietary cocoa framework to take care of interface stuff. On top of that you're either using Objective-C or Swift as the language. While those languages are not really platform dependent, one still has to rewrite quite a bit of code for each platform. Then there's Android. Android, I guess, is running on Linux, but everything you write is in Java. Which at first sounds great because Java runs on almost everything! Except, again, you're using the Android framework most of the time, which means you'd have to rewrite your code for each platform. This simplifies down to this: 1) the language needs to have a compiler for each platform 2) the framework needs to be compatible for each platform There's problems inherent with having compiler/frameworks that are cross compatible. Take the paint program GIMP for example. I believe it is written in C++ and uses the GTK framework. This means it runs on everything. But does it run on everything in a "native" feeling way? I know on OS X GIMP is very ugly and doesn't use native key shortcuts. On Windows it's still pretty decent. The only place GIMP feels at home, in my opinion, is on Linux. Then there's a middle approach, (which I think is awesome, but beyond my expertise) Microsoft Word is a good example. I believe they have written the entire "engine" in C++. This is just all the backend stuff, mostly no interface code. Then they rewrite all the interface stuff for each platform. This is why Word looks good on Windows, Mac, iOS and Android. The interface is native, but the engine behind everything is where all the magic happens. Hope that clears some things up

Yeah, hadn't really thought about it in that way, I'm an exp-programmer myself, but back when I was programming you largely just needed a compiler for each platform you wanted to hit, it wasn't quite that easy, but it certainly doesn't seem as hard as it does now.

Version 1.2.2 is now available. +Undulib works with third-party launchers. +Added option to use stock player like the old version. (some people wanted play counts to sync with iTunes)

Absolutely love this app. Since its release, it has become my default Audiobook player. Just a couple of thoughts:
Would it be possible to show the run time for books in the menu screen, like the Audible app does? At present, it only shows time remaining if a book has already been started. It might be useful to know how long a book is before starting, if you only had a limited amount of time for example.
Also, has any thought been given to being able to show the book description? I know Big Finish have am embedded description on their Audiobook files, but is there a way to display this in Undulib?
Cheers, Gary

Welcome back Gary Im sorry, the comments haven't been that high of a priority. Its still the same as the screenshot I showed on the other forum. I've mostly been making small tweaks here and there. It's on the to-do list though
