With Volume 6 coming out next month (May 2020) i just ponder on what we will expect in the future Nick did mention that there might be a possibility of a boxset set in Season 7 with Daisy Ashford's Liz Shaw
but depending on the reception of Sadie Miller's Sarah Jane Smith would there be a boxset in Season 11?
What are your thoughts and speculation of the future of The Third Doctor Adventures?

Put me down for more season 7 stories before any season 11 stories. Especially if they hold down the gard sci-fi stories of that season. I wouldn't say know to the box being an 7 or 8 episode story in line with that season.

Definitely count me in for stories with Daisy/Liz and/or Sadie/Sarah
A change is as good as a rest

I am surprised they didn’t do the Sarah Jane Smith recast in these Third Doctor Adventures first.
Personally I would definitely give a boxset set in season 11 a go.
I have only got the very first set in this range and I decided that it wasn’t for me.

I am not a fan of Jo Grant. Plus, as with several other past companions, I struggle to accept Katy Manning’s voice as that same person.

Would there still be an audience for an entirely recast story? It'd feel like a pretty big step into uncharted territory, at least.

Honestly the first boxset isn't the best i would highly recommend starting with Vol 4 or 5 as Tim's Performance had gotten more stronger
but yeah i guess with Katy sounding older its a bit jarring or off putting

I think she still sounds pretty amazing considering it is a role she first played fifty years ago. Do any of us sound as we did in 1971?
The Third Doctor Adventures seem to have become Big Finish's recast haven, and despite my initial reservations, they've worked surprisingly well. But Katy is the glue that holds it all together in my view. I think the range needs atr least one original actor/character and while John Levene, Katy and Richard Franklin are still (hopefully) willing to record these things, I don't see the point of not taking advantage of that.
Just my viewpoint, of course, and I think the 3DAs are some of the best sets BF haev done - and I loved the first one too. If Daisy and Sadie join the Third Doctor's family, then I'm all for it, but not at the expence of the original three.

Agreed. Katy is amazing. She might sound older, but she absolutely captures the spirit of Jo (and she also does a great 3rd Doctor in the audio books!). And for me, capturing the spirit of a character has always been more important than having a sound-alike.

FINALLY! An excuse for BF to cast Richard Pearce!

Personally, what I’d like to see most of all in this range is a reoccurring Master. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be a recast Delgado Master - just about any Master will do at this point.
I think some breaks from Jo would also be nice. I love Jo but I’d really like to see the range spice things up every so often. Maybe a few stories set between Seasons 10 and 11 with the rest of UNIT if we don’t want to commit to a fully recast box set just yet, but honestly I think BF should just go ahead and take the plunge. All I’m saying is a Season 7 or 11 would be an instant preorder from me... well, any full-cast Third Doctor boxset is an instant preorder for me, but the point still stands!

Would there still be an audience for an entirely recast story? It'd feel like a pretty big step into uncharted territory, at least. Not me, personally. Part of the attraction to Big Finish for me is hearing the original actors reprising their roles in new stories. I don't mind the occasional recast character to fill a gap, as it were, but after a certain point it's just not what I'm looking for. Tim Treloar and Elliot Chapman are, to my mind, just helping out - and doing it very well. The 1DA sets on the other hand are never going to be on my shopping list. It's the Ship of Theseus argument and we all draw the line somewhere, I suppose. I don't begrudge Big Finish any of their recasting or other people for enjoying it, that's just where I'm at.

I'm all for exploring the early and late periods of Three's era. I'm comfortable with the recasts at this point and there's a lot that could be done with them that I'd love to hear. Also, if we're worried about leaving Manning out while the Doctor is with another companion, then I would certainly welcome a Three/Iris story.

I’d probably soften the transition by having Liz join the Doctor and Jo in the TARDIS. The novel Wages of Sin already sets a percent for Liz having adventures with the Doctor and Jo after The Three Doctors so that’d be nice to see.
That way you’d have Liz involved in the full set, in the companion role and you could have Jo in it. At least to begin with and then do a Season 7 set later.
Or maybe even do a story where the Doctor and Jo materialise back at UNIT only to find they’ve up a year or two too early and Liz is there instead during Season 7.

I didn't like the 1st boxset as I'm not a big fan of narration in audio drama. But from 2 on they dropped that & its been great fun. As for recasts, if an actor has passed I don't mind. I think its worth bearing in mind with recasts that the new actor isn't replicating, in this case Jon Pertwee, but the character of the 3rd Doctor. & this was why I was a bit hesitant when they announced Jon Culshaw as the Brigadier. I see him more as an impressionist rather than an actor, but I was proved wrong & he was really good in the role. As was Daisy Ashford as her mother's character Liz Shaw. Recasts have always happened with classic characters, Sherlock Holmes for example, but the difference is Doctor Who originated on tv rather than in a book which is maybe why some people are not a fan of the idea. But I've loved this 3rd Doctor range so hope it continues.

The thing about having Jo around is that for the longest time she was the flag bearer for the Third Doctor era at Big Finish. Yes you had your odd Companion Chronicle with Mike Yates or Liz Shaw and you have a solo appearance from Sgt. Benton and the one CC with the Brig, so I feel like now that they've recast 3 and the Brig, Katy Manning should be involved for as long as she cares to. That said, I do think she maybe forces her Jo voice a bit hard but I think Nick is too kind to ever give her that note. Honestly though, it doesn't bother me all that much. I would imagine we probably hear a recast Sarah Jane before too long and looking ahead we are hitting that point where a few of these classic Doctor ranges are going to start featuring all recast actors. It's going to become the trade-off, if we want new adventures from our era of the show, it is going to be populated with new actors in a lot of the established roles.

I loved Daisy Ashford taking on her mum's portrayal of Liz Shaw; definitely should do a volume set during Season 7 and sometime after Inferno.
And before I forget, remember the Short Trip Damascus featuring the fictional Prime Minister Jeremy Thorpe? What if they could bring in Hugh Grant to voice the role in a future story?

One key request for the 3DAs : more of them please BF!
This is my era, the Pertwee Doctor and Jo are my team from the very first Who I watched in 1971 and I've been thrilled by the way Katy and Tim Treloar have managed to recreate the old magic on audio, with Richard Franklin in Vol 1 and John Levene in Vol 4 adding to that nostalgic glow. The Vol 4 return of the Brig. and Liz Shaw was beautifully done and I really hope that one day we will hear a Series 7 set with Daisy Ashford.
For me at least, Katy Manning is still THE Companion and the 'glue' which binds this range to THE Doctor, the very definite articles, you might say and I'd not want to miss our annual Three+Jo set.
But would I be up for additional fully recast sets for S7 (and now Sadie Miller is playing Sarah Jane) S11 too? You bet I would!

If you want to do S7 and S11 (which I am all for) you can still have Katy in it - just do an Iris Wildthyme story.

If it was up to me, and thank goodness it's not you all say, I'd up the 3DAs to 2 per year - 1 with Katy as we currently have and one with Daisy or Sadie (or both, as each release has 2 stories).
The other change I would make is to do 6 part stories. TV Pertwee had more 6 parters than 4 parters so 6 parters feel more like authentic Pertwee than 4 parters to me.
