Well, this was quite good.
It had certainly more twists and turns than a rugged mountain path and certainly was not what I had expected. Quite a complex little story and not recommended listening when you cannot pay it full attention.
I loved the world building and the characters are quite well done- especially the ones who are not what they seem. I also think the sound design was quite good in creating the feel and atmosphere of this planet of the birds.
I especially enjoyed the companions in this- both Constance and Flip were clever, resourceful and showing their diplomatic skills. They also get their part in all the action.
Flip is really growing on me, she could be a bit annoying in the beginning and be a little bit of a rip off of Lucie, but she is perfect and likeable here and not annoying at all. She is very well used.
I am again amazed at the energy Colin is showing in these audios. Yes, you can definitely hear he is getting older (especially compared to some of his earlier audios and of course the TV show), but old Sixie is up to his usual heroics and hardly takes time for a break.
So yes, I did enjoy this very much. I hope we get many more of these.

Whilst I found it a little slow off the ground, I found 'Vultriss' to be a pretty decent story...

I'm the 3 vote. Listened to it the last couple days on my work commute it was OK but wasn't really "wowed" by it. And in one area, was kind of annoyed, as this was a bit of Time Lord Backstory... {Spoiler} So, the Time Lords long ago messed up in this corner of some Galaxy or other, and plastered sort of a band-aid on it, to fix it.
Considering the plans of others to turn this into a source of Mass Destruction, it makes me think this should be a Time War story, in which the Time Lords (or War Master) dig into their past to create weapons for the ongoing conflict.

Concerning the spoiler... there is no reason we cannot revisit the Vultriss or their planet. I actually would like to do so. Good idea! They could use them like the Eminence which also appeared in various ranges.

I really enjoyed this one. Colin was very much on his game, and I really felt some of that old Sixie history with this one. The aliens were very creatively alien, and it was great to hear Constance and Flip again. A more than solid story that opens up even more possibilities for future stories, should BF decide to use them.

If you want to know who gave it the (so far only) 5* vote, that was me! I loved it!
I may have mentioned before that 'The Curse of Peladon' is one of my favourite stories ever, so that helps explain why I enjoyed this so much. A well-imagined alien world of royal courts and rebels stands on the brink of contact with the wider Universe when along come the (ahem) "delegates from Earth" and... the Ice Warriors! But are they diplomats, warriors or both? Add on a layer of Time Lord history and technology and it did everything I wanted.
I was hoping for something special to follow the briliant 'Static' and I think we got it. Excellent story for Sixie, Constance and Flip with the three regulars in top form and a great guest cast too. Classic-style Who doing its 'thing' with confidence and style, very reassuring in these strange days.

Another enjoyable outing for old Sixie, Flip & Constance - I do enjoy this team! My take is up at CultBox

I loved how it was all twisty and plot and counterplot-y. {Spoiler} I thought the discovery of the slaughtered Ice Warriors was very “Star One” from Blake’s 7 and was half expecting to find out the warriors were all Dalek duplicates and the real Ice Queen whatsherface was in the cryo-tube.

Was it just me, or did Lisa/Flip not quite sound like herself in this one?

Was it just me, or did Lisa/Flip not quite sound like herself in this one? What exactly do you mean? I think she was great. And a far-cry from the annoying person we got to know in the single adventures with just her and the Doctor. I think she is much better here, but still confident, reckless and taking charge.

It wasn't meant as a criticism, I love Flip and adore Lisa. There was just something different about her voice in this one, I found.

One little point of Flip continuity for the timeline experts to play with. In this story, Flip quotes Yoda at the Doctor 'do or not do' etc and says it's from 'some old film' that her fiance likes quoting!
Which is a good joke (oh these young people, what do they teach them today, hmmm? ), but then I remembered 'Stage Fright' in Sixie's 'Last Adventure', and there Flip says she liked Jar-Jar (well, someone has to I suppose... ) so she must have seen some of the franchise by then, surely enough to know of 'Empire' as more than 'some old film' at least. So that Flip must be later than this 'Vultriss' flip. But when exactly, I leave to more temporally-savvy brains than mine!
