Did people get this angry when BF stopped releasing things on tape? Funnily enough, I was happy buying the Big Finish stories on cassette, as opposed to CD, back in the day, as I could play the tapes in my car. Then they stopped the tapes and it was CD only. I don't remember anyone actually complaining on OG back then. Fortunately my next car had a CD player so all was well and listening to Big Finish stories on my way to/from work became a thing again... now my car has no CD player just Bluetooth and an AUX socket... so yeah, formats change and life does go on. Part of it also was a progression of technology. You could see & hear the difference. I remain unconvinced that digital download is a better technology than CDs. I especially don't get the comeback of vinyl in a digital download age but we are also seeing a lot of indie bands releasing their stuff on cassettes, so who the hell nose?

I especially don't get the comeback of vinyl in a digital download age Primarily $/£/€, but I do enjoy records and I do prefer an LP to an mp3... a digital file on a PC or phone app is just a digital file (boring!), at least with a record you've something to hold in your hands and you can gaze admiringly at the cool cover while you listen to it as well! So I do get it .*

It’s a space and convenience thing for me. The early days of CD, you could totally tell the difference between the warmth of a lp and the harshness of early digital recording but now, I don’t know, it seems like it is trying to move everything backwards. LPs will always be an analog medium to me.

You can still get cassette tapes. Lots of new albums are released on them. Ssshhh... or BF might want to do an exclusive story on cassette one day and then we'll be in trouble! Actually, that is not a bad idea! A collectors edition cassette, which many bands and artists are doing at the moment.

It never gets old hearing Tennant in a Big Finish as The Doctor. Yeah, he so effortlessly slips back into the role, doesn’t he?

I don't think much to either of Culshaw's impressions here. They don't wow me in the way his Brig does. But £4.99 for 2 Master stories is a bargain, so, ordered.

Culshaw’s Ainley is pretty good, though his Delgado is a bit off. By Short Trips standards they’re pretty good though, much as I enjoy them, the Trips’ impressions are usually fairly far off.

I wouldn't like to hear those impressions in a full cast productions but for a narrated story they are perectly fine. I look forward to hearin these.

I don't think either can support a full length performance but I think the Ainley one is good enough that I'd be ok with using it for a cameo.

I would never have guessed that Culshaw was portraying Delgado & Ainley if it wasn’t for the cover telling me. I’m a little apprehensive about the audiobook in Masterful now, I think it’s a long time to sustain.
The Short Trips get away with it typically because they’re not actually doing impersonations. They’ve got an era authentic reader who’s doing their take on the Doctor and it’s rather affectionate. When you get an impersonator in its different and so you’re less forgiving if it’s not up to scratch. I think this Short Trip is a prime example of that.
Still, I’m looking forward to the story and I find Culshaw an engaging reader, which does help. I’m very intrigued to see how the Master is involved in events of Time Lord Victorious.

The one thing I will always give Culshaw is that he finds distinct voices for each character. I'm never in doubt of who's speaking if he's reading: even if it's not a pitch perfect impression
