Brilliant news! I missed out on this when it was first released so I’ve immediately preordered the BluRay.

By the sound of it, there's been a pretty significant overhaul of the animation.

If the animation’s been overhauled... looks like I’ll be buying this for a third time.

Does anyone have any further information on what "new and improved" animation is supposed to mean? I know that the original animation team only just finished their version within the budgetary and time constraints given to them, so is this simply a more polished version (i.e. the version they would have intended to release if not pressured by time and money)? Or is this something else entirely?
Basically, if this going to be included on the Season 4 Blu-ray collection box set (and I don't know why it wouldn't), is there any point me getting this separate release now other than being able to watch the new special features earlier? If they're the only real selling point for this then I'm happy to wait for the Collection set, but if there's genuinely something of note about the new animation then I'll consider it. I just don't see the point in spending the money now if I don't "have" to.

Thank you, that's exactly the sort of info I was looking for! So it's basically a remount, replacing all the stuff they weren't happy with the first time around. If I'm honest, while enticing, that wasn't quite enough to convince me to get this, but there was one staggering line from that piece: "Additionally, all the surviving footage has been newly restored. There's even a little bit more of it now too!" Did anyone else know that more footage from Power had been found?! I'm now very, very tempted to get this. Even if it's only 3 seconds or something, I want to see it, dammit!

That would have been the original 2016 version (I really wanted to see it at the cinema too but none nearby were showing it). This is a newer version they've done

I'm sure this'll be good but I think I'll wait until it (hopefully) finds its way onto The Collection blu-ray

I was ready to pass this up, but improved animation is pretty tempting. The missing episode animations have never exactly been top quality, but Power was on the lower end of the scale even by that standard.
It's kind of a shame we had to stop and restart this process because I thought by Moonbase the original team(s) were getting rather good.

I enjoyed how little dissonance there was between the live action and animated versions for The Moonbase. The Troughton stories seem to have struck out well so far, the majority I've seen -- The Invasion, The Macra Terror, The Moonbase -- have all come together rather nicely. That science fiction setting must help enormously. I like what was attempted for The Reign of Terror, but unfortunately, I think the pacing was a bit off. There were a lot of furtive glances and attempts at photorealistic movement for the faces, which pulled me out of it. It was nearly there. We nearly had a Doctor Who historical retold as an anime. The irony seems to be the closer it is to pure animation, the more it gels. The Cosgrove Hall style for Invasion still holds up even today. Speaking of which, and at the risk of getting vaguely off-topic, does anyone remember The Infinite Quest? Tenth Doctor and Martha try to outpace an interstellar pirate searching for mythical vessel.

Not only do I remember it, but I recently watched it again. It's included as part of "The Complete David Tennant Collection" on Blu-ray

I think I need to track it back down and rewatch it again. I forgot how much Alan Barnes was able to pack into 45-minutes. The clip alone was really fun.

Speaking of which, and at the risk of getting vaguely off-topic, does anyone remember The Infinite Quest? Tenth Doctor and Martha try to outpace an interstellar pirate searching for mythical vessel. I have to admit Reign of Terror was my least favorite because of the constant cutting which was totally out of place for the show. It's like, a few characters are having a simple conversation, but the animation is like: cut to Ian looking around nervously, cut to a bottle on the table, cut to the Doctor's eyeball, cut to a door handle being opened, on and on and on. Very distracting! I hadn't thought about it working better when it's not trying to be so realistic, but you're probably right. I would pay good money for an animated Marco Polo, but I don't know if they could make it look good since human beings seem to be the stumbling block moreso than ships, monsters, and so forth.

I enjoyed it more on the rewatch than on the first viewing years ago. It has held up well, with interesting world building and good roles for the guest artists.
