Back to the Orion War.....
Another good, solid release focusing on the war between humans and androids. I liked these characters and the stakes are high. I'm finding that I like the BF Cybermen stories more than I remembered. Thoughts?
Next week: Legend Of the Cybermen (I think I'm going to end up listening to the entire trilogy.)

I'm saving my relisten to this one until this evening, so will report back later.
As for the enjoyment levels, I love both Sword of Orion and The Harvest but cant quite get on with The Gathering and The Reaping.

Kingdom of Silver has echoes of Dune; various great 'Houses' are represented - for Argentia read Atreides - there is betrayal and even omnithopter type things.
McCoy is excellent, as are the supporting cast and the general atmosphere and it just about nudges a 7 out of 10 in my book.

I really need to read that book again, tit's been way too long.

"The road to hell is paved with good inventions..."
For the longest time, I had this informal season leading up to the TV Movie. The Seventh Doctor's curtain call, if you will. Master was his last, Return of the Daleks shortly before that... and Kingdom of Silver, acting as his final Cyber-confrontation. It's a nice novelty to see the Cybermen in such comparatively regal settings. Civilised and saturated in courtly intrigue in comparison to the frontline brutality of the Orion Wars. The three-episodes travel extremely well. Pacy, yet thoughtful. To extend the Dune metaphor, you can see how the Silver has become like the spice of Arrakis. A vital, dangerous resource that shifts the growth and intent of entire cultures with its presence. Tasak believes it would crumble without it.
I love the music and sound design here. The pseudo-morse chords give substance to that feeling of the Cybermen reaching out from the dig site. They may not always be present, but their influence is everywhere on this world. Speaking of influences, the dynamic between the Doctor and his temporary companions for this story, Temeter and Sara, feel an awful lot like a dry run for Chris Cwej and Roz Forrester, in retrospect. One bit of worldbuilding I'm particularly glad has gotten more life beyond Kingdom is the idea of the Cybermen's tombworlds. In the plural. That there are countless civilisations sitting atop refridgeration units just like those on Telos. Like a wooden house sitting atop of a nest of termite eggs.

I’m pretty lukewarm on Kingdom of Silver. There’s nothing bad about it, but honestly nothing particularly memorable. The alien culture being based on a tomb is a neat concept but realised in a rather bland way (Tasak is a pretty by the numbers sci-fi society).
Keepsake however is much better. It provides a proper insight into the Android side of the Orion War (which the spin-off kinda does, but only briefly) and works well as a tie-in to Cyberman Series 2.

If this is also an appropriate thread to discuss "Keepsake," would you mind revising the thread title? It's not super important, but for the Index I like everything to be clear as, at least in my case, I'd be a bit anxious.

Been a while since I listened to it but it still evokes warm feelings.MCCoy is excellent in it from my memory and I do love the Tea pot scene.I cottoned on immediately to The Dune house similarity as also in The Burning Prince ,I like little nods to things like these they give importance and history to the planets.the threat of the Cybermen is well realised and I think it is another of the tales where Solo Doctor is excellent.I will slot in a relisten at some point soon
and I think Keepsake is such a great little contained tale which adds so much to the main story

well it didn’t take long to retrieve the Cd out of the case 😂 almost immediately there is an air about Tasak and something commanding and powerful about the soundscape.Terry Malloy gives a rich performance as a non villain for once. the opening Tardis scene of a solo Sylvester making tea is still a favourite of mine you would be forgiven for thinking he has retired from his chess playing role with the forces of darkness and also the scene evokes pre MOVIE Tardis and costume. I have a real fondness for this story and the one parter too as both are connected.it’s not groundbreaking stuff but it is one of BFs highlights. James Swallows scripts are wonderful
