I really enjoy the Early Adventures however I get the feeling that they are perhaps winding down perhaps due to actor availability, with this year’s output being halved compared to the 4 releases we had in series 1-5.
With William Russell and Jean Marsh and now Elliot Chapman seemingly retired, and the David Bradley First Doctor Adventures and Susan’s War series covering the original TARDIS team, I wonder if we are likely to see any more EAs or whether the 1960s actors will focus on the annual Companion Chronicle boxsets.
Has Big Finish made any comments on the future of the range?

My understanding was that they aren't planning on ending the range, but the number of releases will be reduced in future because they aren't selling as well as some other ranges. They seem to be keeping announcements on new products a little closer to their chests at the moment, so I would wait until around September before worrying too much over whether or not they'll continue with these

I did wonder whether the plans were linked in to the upcoming changes to the monthly series and potentially moving all the Doctors to boxsets, in which case perhaps an annual “Early Adventures” boxset might be the future of the range.

This range is a favourite of mine too; a small range in total number but it has a very high % of excellent stories. Fingers crossed we will get some more.

I thought there was a recent comment by one of the companion actors that more were being recorded soon, but who knows with COVID - and honestly I could be misremembering?? Someone with a better memory for the arcane knowledge of the Obscure News thread might have more insight.

Based on actor availability amongst the actors who have gone before, the only 2 Dr/companion line-ups still available are One/Vicki/Steven and Two/Jamie/Zoe.
They could of course recast Ben a 2nd time, plus they could do other recasts.
Of the original actors who have appeared in the EAs, only Deborah Watling has actually passed away - maybe too soon for a recast?
They may not wish to recast actors still with us (William Russell, Jean Marsh) but they could recast the unwilling (Dodo anyone?)
The other options are new companions. BF have created a gap for One and Steven between Masterplan and Massacre, plus there is now a distinct gap for Two and Jamie in which the 2 Drs took place. How about a series with Two, Jamie and Sam Briggs in that gap, assuming Pauline Collins is up for it ..

They could also do One/Steven, but I don’t see why they’d do that instead of using Vicki too.
I’d honestly be surprised if they don’t recast Dodo at some point.

I really hope this range does continue since it’s really the only place we can get Second Doctor stories outside the Companion Chronicles and Short Trips format. He’s the most underrepresented of all the Doctors at Big Finish - New Who Doctors obviously being the exception - and almost everything we’ve had in recent years has been consistently fantastic.
An increasingly big part of me just wishes Big Finish would take the plunge and make an annual Second Doctor Adventures box set similar to the Third Doctor Adventures with Frazer Hines playing the part, since, if I recall correctly, Hines isn’t interested in playing Jamie alongside a recast Second Doctor and Hines is hands down the best person to play the Second Doctor anyways.
If there was another avenue where we’re getting Second Doctor content OUTSIDE the Companion Chronicles, I think I’d feel a little more comfortable if the Early Adventures ended. Just a little, though, because I’m also quite addicted to the Steven and Vicki stories.

I'd like to see them do another season of stories that all flow into each other, perhaps with a new temporary companion alongside Jamie and Zoe?

This range is a favorite of mine as well, and I hope it continues for a while longer. That said, I think the reality is that sooner or later we're going to have enough actors retire or pass on and it won't be able to anymore, low sales or not. I miss William Russell, but the man has more than earned his retirement. There does seem more emphasis on things like the 1DAs, which are not interesting to me.

It feels strange not seeing William Russell as Ian in the regular line-up anymore, but we've been relentlessly spoiled for choice over the years. I appreciate the skill and craft of something like the First Doctor Adventures. We've had some truly cracking stories under that banner ( The Invention of Death, The Phoenicians, etc.), but there's something about the original actors that brings an extra spark. Their ability to work in concert with one another, their own dynamic and banter, that's what sells it to me. They've a natural rhythm to that back and forth that, unfortunately, the total recasts haven't quite mastered. At least, at time of writing. The Early Adventures deliver on that -- new stories, classic performers -- and break some new ground in a surprisingly humble way as well. After all, where else would we have gotten an era-authentic Voord sequel? A Chaucerian farewell to Ian and Barbara that reveals their first meeting? A mix of original and recast performers in a story you could not have told in 1965? Even a mock five-year anniversary special that features a companion we missed out on. I'd be really glad to see the Early Adventures continue. In whatever format best works for the actors/production company. If not a full season, maybe a story a year? It'd be a shame to retire it completely when we're still striking on gems like Daughter of the Gods. Based on actor availability amongst the actors who have gone before, the only 2 Dr/companion line-ups still available are One/Vicki/Steven and Two/Jamie/Zoe. I'd like to see them do another season of stories that all flow into each other, perhaps with a new temporary companion alongside Jamie and Zoe? I've been watching Nebula-75 and I'm really liking the idea of teaming up the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe with something like Circuit. The archetypal Raygun Gothic Robot. The Doctor's flippant mentoring, Jamie's scepticism, Zoe's logic... That feels like it could be a lot of fun with this crew in particular.

I also prefer The EAs, I've tried to get in to the 1DA with the new (old) 1st Doctor Team but I don't think it is for me. I cant warm to the overly clipped posh accents of Susan etc.

I reckon they ought to put the occasional release from ranges like this into the Main Range, to give them the exposure they deserve, and so people don't dismiss them as boring B&W.
Of course, Certain Parties want rid of the main range...
