out today.
"Dr Owen Harper’s called to the hospital. There’s a ward full of remarkable coma patients and more are coming in. Each patient came in with a dead relative as their imaginary friend.
Has Owen really discovered a bridge between the living and the dead?"

This was terrific. Wonderfully acted, cleverly written, good sound design. Definitely top-tier in my book.

Excellent, excellent story for Owen. Delves into his character more that any story I can remember in a while. Interestingly, it's also rather a low key one for him. In that it isn't over the top with horror, as Corpse Day was. Or with snark the way he usually is with Andy. I love Burn in this one. Just a great, simmering story that builds and has the listener wondering how he's going to get out of this.

This was really good indeed. Owen always seems to get some of the best Torchwood scripts. Although... dude can't catch a break, can he ? Out of all four of his MR stories, The Last Beacon was the only one which didn't feel as dark as the others for his character.

Burn Gorman is so good, and his character is so interesting, that the writers certainly give him a lot of dark stuff. I listened to this today and, as is so often the case with the Torchwood releases, enjoyed it immensely.
Another thing mentioned in the extras was how boring hospitals are (as a story location). Well, thanks to Grace Knight's writing I certainly didn't find this one boring at all! This range just does not put a foot wrong!

Ah, I see, I didn't have the time to listen to the extras yet. I see what you mean however, I always considered Burn Gorman to be the best of the original actors from the first two TV series. Big Finish are really lucky to have such a talented actor in their ranks on a regular basis. At worst, the Torchwood releases are just a little boring and at best, they're some of the best stuff Big Finish has done in recent years.

It was really good. Is this the earliest we have now seen Owen in his timeline? I don’t remember ever hearing about a gf that died. Very good setup for why he is so .... detached

Very good setup for why he is so .... detached His girlfriend fiancé dying is his backstory in the show. It’s shown through a flashback in Fragments during Series 2. But yes, this is possibly the earliest we’ve seen him as all his other stories except The Last Beacon are set during Series 2 and The Last Beacon is late series 1. This is more likely pre or early Series 1.

Playing catch up a bit here, but I’m very glad I am. I’m going to have echo the praise above as this was just excellent! Fascinating expansion on Owen’s early days plus a nice evolving situation, which becomes clearer and clearer as we progress.
The Torchwood main range is working really well, I have to say. The extra focus on each character or pairing of characters, but with a different choice each time, really adds to the overall world building. Wonderful stuff!
