Another Master spin-off?!
Honestly Roberts’ previous appearances didn’t make me that enthused for his take on the character. He’s fine and performs well, but it’s quite a simple interpretation and I’m not really that invested in hearing more of him.
This will be probably go on ‘maybe, if reviews are good’ list.

Although my immediate reaction was that we didn't need another Master spin-off, from the news piece and what little information there is I get the feeling this might be channelling the nineties in a "what if the TV movie got picked up for a season and they decided to do a Master spin-off" sort of way, which sounds appealing.

Alongside Masterful, War Master Vol. 6 and now this, 2021 is really shaping up to be the Year of the Master..
Seems rather apt somehow.

Vienna is an odd choice, but sure, I'm in! I would also be very interested in seeing (hearing) Roberts and McGann face each other again...

Instant preorder for me. I really enjoyed his appearance in the River Song boxset.

Having Vienna in this makes me a lot more intriguing than I otherwise would be. Roberts Master would be very far down my list of Masters deserving of their own box set, but Big Finish must think there is merit in his Master, so I will keep an open mind, but currently a closed wallet!

Well, this is a surprise!
I must say, I feel Eric Roberts is getting better every time he appears - but I don’t think he’s been given a full chance to let rip yet (with both his appearances and the next one we know about being multi-Master mash-ups). Hopefully this is that chance.
I would do a lot to get a 1v1 with McGann though.

I am not sure about this. I really like Vienna, but I am just not sold on Eric Roberts in the BF audios. I think this might be one where I wait for reviews before I come onboard.

Not that I ever 'expect' anything from Big Finish - but I really didn't expect this. I'm delighted we're going to get more from Eric's version of the character. Roberts is quite a name, isn't he (not that that means anything, of course)? His own series, a guest spot for Vienna - as far as I'm concerned this is an instant pre-order. Great news.
I was so excited I forgot to include this quote from BF's DR: 'Killing Eve in a dystopian future' - now that is what I call exciting.

I wonder if this will finally end TARDIS Wiki's refusal to acknowledge Vienna as part of the Doctor Who universe...
As for the set itself, I don't know. Roberts Master is not one of the more interesting versions of the character to me, but on the other hand, Big Finish has excelled at fulfilling potential that was previously left...unfulfilled.

He's really only had three appearances in audio so far -- in a River episode (so, not his own story), and in Day of the Master (where he was just one player in an ensemble of Masters). So he really hasn't much of a shot at showing us what sort of murderous evil mastermind he is. Besides that, Big Finish have made magic with other minimally known/loved TV characters before, so for my part at least, I'm very much willing to give them the benefit of the doubt to do it again.

If he gets the chance to really dress for the occasion and completely roll with that, I will be all over it. But from the previous appearances... not sold.

Ideally, i'd just like to hear more of himself and Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor facing off together again in a few new tales. That's where his Master belongs to me at least - an audio version of the TV series we never got in 1996.
Seems a case of feeling the need to give him his own leading vehicle for the sake of another spin-off range, as if he is too big a name for a supporting role for Big Finish. Like River Song, I feel there is a tendency towards overkill as opposed to integrated Main Range or Doctor-centred sets, following the justifiable success of Jago & Litefoot. There is a justification where the War Master is concerned, with the loss of John Hurt to work with/against, but I do think Eric Roberts would be more interesting in core Doctor Who as opposed to a Missy style range. Michelle Gomez certainly warranted more airtime sans the Doctor more than any other interpretation of the character.
