This might be a bit oot, but didn't know where else to post it.
Anyone else finding BF's marketing and social media strategy a bit insensitive and out of touch lately (sale on Liz Sladen's passing anniversary?), but particularly so yesterday? Everything that's happening in the world and all they could do was post memes (about the state of the world...), sales and a big announcement. I think they should've have taken the day off and maybe promote some of the work they do with black people (they do regularly work with BAME). Just saying I think it would have been a nice thing to do, if only out of respect for their black fans and creatives.

Considering their big announcement wasn't until midnight, they could've done the blackout very easily.

It has not bothered me that much, but I do find the way they announce news to be more infuriating lately. I'd rather they didn't tease something they're going to announce later in the day as it always creates false expectation. Like teasing a "Gallifrey Time War" sale with a broken seal of Rassilon. Instead of people going "Oh neat a sale" they go "Why isn't this something new?".
The sale on Liz Sladen's passing anniversary did not bother me in the moment. I felt it was more to coincide with the Lockdown rewatch of Stolen Earth/Journey's End and the release of Farewell Sarah Jane. That being said, I've stopped following Big Finish on twitter and facebook specifically due to the large amount of posts I don't find interesting.
As for yesterday, it would have been great of them to highlight the diverse crew with which they make audio adventures in light of the recent events and Blackout Tuesday. I won't however blame a company for not doing something, though the aged Tennant meme probably could have waited.

Just saying I think it would have been a nice thing to do, if only out of respect for their black fans and creatives. I think when TLV was first announced, it was suggested that the BBC were the ones who arranged when things would be announced for it, so I think the blame should be laid at the BBC's door for the ill-timing of the announcement. I'm in two minds about it though - I understand the social media is to promote the company and the products, but... other companies are using their social media to support the BLM movement. A lot of the Big Finish employees are using their personal social media to support BLM so perhaps that's why they don't feel the need to do it on the company's main account? Though, not every customer is going to be following their personal accounts so it would be nice if they made some sort of statement off the main account.

I follow them but find this forum a better place for news than any of BFs official outlets.

I won't however blame a company for not doing something, though the aged Tennant meme probably could have waited. Exactly! All it would have taken is for them to put the spotlight on some of their diverse (but mainly black in this case) cast and crew for a day, then the usual uninteresting posts wouldn't even have been so out of place. Although they certainly could've done without the ill-timed meme.

Although they certainly could've done without the ill-timed meme. But if they are casting in a color blind way, they are doing the work. The test becomes the creative end. I don’t know of any directors of color which BF hires. Sound designer or composers? How many writers? Now that isn’t a Big Finish specific shortage, the lack of diversity on the creative end of the entertainment industry is shocking. It has been getting better the past few years but the point being, if you don’t have much to showcase, you don’t showcase at all. I also get that what is happening in America right now isn’t happening in the UK, so a silence on that from BF isn’t totally unwarranted. I don’t know. I went to a protest on Sunday. I’m following this closely and the radio silence on this from BF is not even on my radar.

While the message is important (and many BF contributors personal Accounts Twitter have signed up to it) it dose seem to be the same couple of Accounts singling out BF for not for doing so (just an observation)

Big Finish’s reasons for staying quiet- Isn't allowed to be used according to who? Jason Haigh-Ellery? In which case why. Is he worried about upsetting some racists?

Big Finish’s reasons for staying quiet- That is, how to phrase this, tone deaf in the extreme.

Wait, and this is me genuinely confused and more than happy to understand why, but if Big Finish has to follow guidelines from the BBC on their social media, and one of their rules is they can’t voice opinions/stances on public issues/policy, how is the response pathetic? Again I genuinely am willing to understand and listen, but right now I’m am utterly lost.

If you’re annoyed, level the criticism at the BBC, as it’s down to them, not BF.

I'm sure there must have been times in the past when BF did comment on public issues, although I can't think of any off the top of my head

And the bbc has to follow the guidelines set by the government........that is primarily to remain impartial in politics, people forget that the bbc is a state operated body run by an independent board......... as I said earlier it’s political especially with the Civil unrest situation in America.....it’s best not to comment.......deeds not words Show us who they support...... it’s no more than towing the company line, just the company line is to be impartial on political issues

Why should the BBC have any control over their social media? Does Canal+ have any control, since they own "The Avengers"? How about whoever owns "Dark Shadows"? Or Gerry Anderson's estate?

I don't understand why a company in the business of producing audio dramas for nerds needs to comment on current events one way or the other. It's got nothing to do with them or their product.
I personally do not find corporate messages of support uplifting, whether it's COVID or pride month, or civil unrest. I can't help but see that as, "You are a demographic we are interested in selling to, and so we want you to think we are your friend. Please buy our stuff."
I don't like to comment on political issues myself, but if Nick Briggs or whoever wants to speak out on their own personal twitter, go for it, makes more sense to me than using the company account.

If you follow the individual personal Twitter feeds of the BF team, it will more than make up for what the official company website is not saying. Although I admit that it can be very one-sided.
I see myself as a liberal leaning on the left, but sometimes, certain things that are posted there are a bit extreme, even for me. It is not as much as leaning left than hanging out of the window with only holding on by the fingertips...
