There are several spinoffs from NuWho that I have passed on, but this one really looks intriguing.
I especially like the historical setting of the Roman Empire. It helps to give the range an identity, something I wish they had done with Charley Pollard.
And who could resist a range when you have episodes with titles like I, Rorius!
Only downside is that they are so far away from initial release and then over a year to the next one. Only having three stories in each set I really think they should have put these closer together as they do with the Paternoster Gang and have done with Robots and Adam Adamant.

I'm definitely not surprised that Rory is our first companion from the Eleven era to work with Big Finish. I like him and I think he'll be a nice addition to the audio family. I am, Arthur Darvill always came across as being in the same category as Christopher Eccelston, “I’m proud of what I did, but I like to move forward, not look backwards”. Indeed, Arthur's always been a bit reluctant to return to Rory, as he felt the arc was complete... however, as he explains a bit in tomorrow's podcast interview, the concept behind these box sets fascinated him, and allows an opportunity to explore new sides of the character away from the restrictions of the mains series' continuity...

Sure, why not. Not a spin-off I’m instantly interested in, but a sensible premise for one. One for the list of releases I might try in a future sale if reviews are good.

This really was an unexpected announcement Yeah...but the more I think about the less surprising it actually seems? It was a gap seemingly tailor made by Moffat for others to explore and very intriguing from a story point of view, I hadn't even thought about BF doing stories in that Gap before but the more I think about it the more obviously an idea it seems...

I seem to be in a minority for not being the least bit surprised by this announcement. If you'd asked me I probably wouldn't have guessed they'd be making this, but it's so obvious a choice that I didn't even blink when I saw it. That's not to say I'm not pleased by it though. Rory was an absolutely wonderful character who was (in my opinion) greatly overshadowed and ignored for the most part on TV, so I'm very much looking forward to a solo series with him. Roll on May

Looking forward to hearing from Arthur in the podcast. I know he’s fond of Rory and felt his arc was complete on screen, so to read the quote from him in yesterday’s announcement, where he says the scripts really nailed Rory’s voice, makes these all the more appealing.

Well we now have two companion spin offs wonder who will be next to get their spin off? Volume One/Issue One of The Ghost which would focus on his heroics and continued opposition to the forces of the Harmony Shoal. Inspired by his actions, many begin using alien technology or have been affected by such alien artefacts that they take up costumed identities as well. Meanwhile, a group of genetic experiments gone wrong escape an abandoned Forge facility and begin wreaking havoc. After all, a hero must have his villains. For an special surprise, Weapon E (also known as Virgil) from a Companion Chronicle finds himself displaced to modern day New York and through a series of misunderstandings the two end up duking it out. UNIT would naturally be called in to clean up their devastation. And I don’t know, maybe the Master or someone recognisable could make an appearance. Get a stranded Frobisher in as a comedic sidekick or something.

We need a 4 boxset epic with Capaldi and Matt Lucas to resolve that storyarc.

Something just occurred to me is that apart from The Diary of River Song
Rory- The Lone Centurion is the only Big Finish New Series Companion Spin off to actually have a second Series (or Volume 2)
Rose Tyler Earth Defense (sorry Dimension Cannon), Donna Noble- Kidnapped, Lady Christina, Jenny are the only ones to just have One Series each
