There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I remember a phrase used to describe his style of acting: “ Anything you can do, I can do less of.” As an actor, his loss will be immeasurable.

Oh no! I remember being really impressed by Ian's acting in Radio 4's 1981 adaption of Lord of the Rings, where he would balance out the kindly tones of Frodo with moments of manic evil, and evil that he displayed to powerful effect in Alien. John Hurt rightly gets praised for his performance in that film, but for my money Ian steals the show. RIP Mr Holm.

That's what I like!".
A classic semi 'Python', like Jabberwocky, but quite underrated these days. It was a role he played a few times. Yesterday was the 205th anniversary of Waterloo, coincidentally.
He also played dual roles of both Frankenstein & the 'Creature', in Tales of Mystery & Imagination, in 1968, on a lesser known but recommended cult TV vein. Rare for an actor to have played so many interesting roles in acclaimed productions over such a wide period of time. You could make a whole list of his cult film & TV appearances and he was never pigeon holed nor typecast. Farewell, to another in the vanishing pool of accomplished character actors.

So sad to hear the news that Sir Ian Holm has passed away.
Greatly enjoyed him in 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings' films as Bilbo Baggins as well as 'Chariots of Fire', 'The Fifth Element' and 'King Lear'.
Tim.
