We all know that The Master really only keeps people around as pawns or pets, but should The Master get some ongoing companions? Perhaps dodgy people like himself, or maybe a arc where perhaps he meets someone, starts to fall in love, they try and change/mellow The Master, and enraged by that The Master kills them (or alternatively they get killed, and The Master gets genocidal on the species that did it).

You might enjoy The War Master: Only the Good... I have Rage of the Time Lords, so that's on my list.

Missy has a companion in one of the Missy collections, and kills them off when she starts to like them. I also had a companion in my Vaults of the Numae story for the unofficial Master Annual. In my story the companion had a particular skill the Master needed. It's also a cheap way to deliver some exposition.

The Delgado Master seemed to have a sidekick in each story. Some willing accomplices, some mere henchman, some under hypnosis.
Colonel Trenchard in The Sea Devils seemed capable of some conversation beyond carrying out orders. Then there was Rex Farrel in Terror of the Autons, Chin Lee in Mind of Evil, Queen Galleia in The Time Monster.
In The Daemons he seems to mirror the Doctor bringing along the UNIT 'family' by having his own little gang of subversives to balance things out, like a game of snap.

I think Clara in the Witch's Familiar basically was one (or Missy's equivalent of one) but I don't know if it's a popular opinion.

It's an interesting idea. I think it could be a good one if it's handled well. I don't think much of The Master having companions per se, but I though the sort of twisted parody of the Full Tardis you could make out of ...And You Will Obey Me seemed extremely appropriate somehow. Perhaps it's the sense of The Master being somewhat of an evil version of The Doctor? It does seem a bit like he should have evil companions and perhaps on rare occasions something of a regular one?

I think giving the Master a companion would make for an interesting dynamic. I’d imagine the Master would act a bit like a evil version of the Seventh Doctor and exert a corruptive influence over them. Manipulating them to fulfil his plans for conquest or even just for the thrill of it to break their spirits.
Imagine a villain who was once a companion of the Master, they spent years travelling with him and saw the evil and despair he caused. (At some points even reluctantly assisting him) They managed to escape, surviving what plan his former ‘friend’ had in store for him only to discover that after all that they were no longer the person they once were.
Now they just want revenge on him. And will stop at nothing to get it.

The Master often does have the equivalent of a companion. For example there was Dr Sally Armstrong in Dark Eyes.
The problem with any companion to the Master is that you don’t expect them to live for very long. I guess that could be part of the “fun” - will they survive this episode!?
It was one of the reasons I suggesting the Master and apprentice. Finally the Master would have a companion he couldn’t kill! However as there would now be two Masters in the Grandfather Clock Tardis I am sure that the young Master would try to kill his master. Fortunately that old Master would have the benefit of hindsight and be able to avoid any such unpleasantness, like death.

Macqueen's Master seemed genuinely cut up about loss of Sally. I dont know if it was anymore mournful for him than say, a kid losing their hamster, but the emotion was there.

Imagine a villain who was once a companion of the Master (...) While I still think your idea (Master vs. Apprentice) is great, the "Master's abandoned companion" was used as a reveal in a previous story! Mother Finsey is revealed to have been left for dead (and blinded) by the Master in The Transcendance of Ephros. She apparently died at the end of that story, but knowing the Master's ability to survive against impossible odds, it's possible she picked up a trick or two! So, maybe that character can return to seek their revenge... EDIT: Also a list of the Master's companions that I remember (spoilers abound!): - Ailla (The Dark Path) - Finsey (The Transcendance of Ephros) - Kamelion (The King's Demons) - Christopher Marlowe (The Shakespeare Notebooks) - Sally Armstrong (Dark Eyes 2 & 3) - Cole Jarnish (The War Master: Only the Good)
This isn't counting folks like Chang Lee, Dr. Chang or Lucy Saxon who don't actually travel with the Master.

Glad you liked it. I was imagining a far more sympathetic version of your first example myself. One who is far less villainous and has nothing but hatred for him. I’m even envisaging a scenario where the companion actually manages to kill the Master triggering his regeneration. The Master would of course mortally wound him in retaliation. As the Master begins to regenerate and the companion lies dying, he spits out blood before simply stating: “I win.” Then laughing joyfully as the place collapses around the pair of them. Now that I say that I’m pretty sure that’s already been done before.

Thinking about him in Dark Eyes, in UNIT Dominion and with his young acolytes in And You Will Obey Me, I believe that MacQueen’s Master is the most companionable Master. He would work well with one or more companions and I think I could see them getting to the end of a boxset relatively unharmed, perhaps emotionally traumatised, but physically still intact!

I’d agree. MacQueen Master definitely seems one of the more affable of his incarnations. Especially when compared to someone such as Roberts or Beevers Master. Could imagine him apologising (even if the sentiment is completely false.) to one of his companions before killing them or sacrificing them as a part of his plan. Ending with a pun or witty remark. Something like:
“Still we had some fun, didn’t we?”
(Glances at their corpse)
“Oh, please yourself... Honestly the sheer ingratitude of some people...
(Walks off.)

And having the MacQueen Master with one or more companions would automatically bring something different to his box set .

Talking about the MacQueen Master having a companion put this crazy notion into my head.
He already wears fine tailored suits. In Dark Eyes he showed his fondness for hats And at least one of his past selves enjoyed children’s television. Perhaps this Master now takes inspiration from a show aimed at a little older age group.
He crafts himself a multi purpose umbrella and a tissue compression bowler hat.
I can see him putting it on the victims head. “Try this on for size!” The hat compresses the person up into the bowler. It falls to the floor and when the Master picks it up the traditional doll like figure is revealed. “Perhaps it is a trifle too big for you!”
He only needs one final accessory. But no lowly Mrs for the Master. This Time Lord requires a Lady. Lady Christina your needed!
The Lord and The Lady.

Suddenly makes children's television of my childhood a lot more sinister.
