2024 !! God Lord, putting this out there now is ridiculous. Think of it less as an announcement, and more as a way of dealing with all the people who trawl the internet for actors' credits to identify forthcoming audios, or who trawl the website for Christopher Eccleston references, or who look at photos on studio walls in social media posts and assume that all those actors are in new stories. People are going to find out that people have recorded 4th Doctor stories well in advance of their release, at least this way BF have some control over the flow of news.
Come to think of it, we know that bits of the 60th Anniversary story have already been recorded. I hope David Richardson is getting some ideas together for the 70th.
Yep - it’s probably worth mentioning that the title ‘Storm of the Sea Devils’ had already turned up on the forums from Spotlight surfing. There’s a certain irony in people being desperate for information on one hand - and not wanting to know about releases in advance on the other.

Only if you assume it's the same people rather than two different groups with different preferences. Some people want everything now, some can wait. For me I can't imagine where I'd even remotely care to trawl actor's CVs looking for clues. It doesn't make stories come out faster...but clearly some people like the digging.

For me I can't imagine where I'd even remotely care to trawl actor's CVs looking for clues. It doesn't make stories come out faster...but clearly some people like the digging. I mean ultimately, the issue doesn't seem to be "those who want to know" vs "those who don't." The issue is that people don't want to wait. The situation is unique because most things AREN'T recorded that far in advance (as the last few months have proven). If BF were to release season 13 next year, we wouldn't be having this conversation. What it comes down to is that BF has created a pattern for the Tom Baker releases that involves making us wait artificially. And while there's reasons why it makes sense to do that, there are also reasons why fans might feel some irritation. It's less, "Why are you telling us this when we won't be able to listen to this until 2024?" and more "Why are you telling us this when you're going to make us wait until 2024?" If, in 2005 or 2010, the BBC had made their "plans for the next 5 years of Doctor Who" publicly available, we'd have all been ecstatic. If they'd followed that up with "and we've already filmed it all, but we're only going to show you 14 episodes a year," it would have felt a little different. And if they'd THEN gone on to shoot an extra season every year, and informed us about that, but every announcement was "5 years from now"... well, it would have started to really rankle. Nothing wrong with what BF is doing. Just... not extraordinarily pleasant, is all.

If you have/gain access to a cellar full of fine wines, there is *arguably* limited pleasure or benefit in trying to drink it all at once. Like the Rutger Hauer Guinness slogan "Good things come to those who wait". Seems that BF is ensuring it can supply the demand for some time to come, yet it is conversely problematic to some. Damned if you do, Damned if you don't?

Do they have filter options, or do they trawl everyone in Equity every week? The panel on the 4DA 2024 series is live now for BF Day for anyone not watching.

As noted, this title showed up on the forums in MARCH 2019! So if anyone thinks they announced it too soon, they've already been sitting on it for a year... Not that I wouldn't take it earlier if I could get it!

But equally is an Actor doing any harm by putting Credits that can viewed by the fans and Posted/ discussed here?
Personally in enhances my enjoyment to speculate or know what's coming!

Regards mark687 Most of the time it's a working actor on a reasonably vague sounding title but when big things do leak, you can surely imagine why BF are peeved to lose their announcement? Nick was even pissed at Georgia Tennant when she blabbed all about the Jenny set before that was announced and I'm sure we remember when it kicked off when a fan site published the debut of the Tenth Doctor and Donna ahead of the reveal.

Regards mark687 And actors will want to get the credits on their CVs ASAP which is understandable. Especially important for some younger actors who work with BF and maybe don't have too many audio credits.

I've preordered it because, as noted above, I want to lock in shipping costs now for four years from now. Here is hoping I live that long.
And if trawling the CVs of actors & writers to discover who is working on what is how a fan expresses their love of Doctor Who, who are any of us to criticize? And to David's point, unless Big Finish requires performers & writers sign NDAs, then yeah any actor, especially those starting out, will want to have the credit listed as soon as possible. Never underestimate the power of booking a lot of work to help book even more work.

I think it depends on whether the work is “in the can”, so to speak. I seem to recall the Tennant & Tate one being a little different as nothing had been recorded at that time. I think Big Finish, or Nick specifically, being peeved is understandable. If nothing has been recorded, then there’s always the scope for things to go wrong. Whether that’s the actor, or their agent, hearing about the leak and asking for an increased fee that just isn’t affordable, or contracts falling through and the recording never going ahead.
I’m not saying that was ever going to happen with Tennant & Tate, but there’s the potential for it to happen. Character Options did a Yeti figure that was leaked and the Haisman estate allegedly wanted a higher fee because they saw the demand and it just wasn’t financially viable; they were barely going to turn a profit releasing the figure as is due to the sheer size of it and the lack of reusability.
With stuff on being discovered on a CV, it’s typically left open to speculation. I’d say the main issue is if it’s a big release, or something not planned to be announced or released for a while. Speculation can lead to unrealistic expectations, but that’s par for the course.

I think the crux of the matter is, just as so many well known actors who have had more significant and regular acting roles elsewhere, but a once done and dusted guest role in the Classic Series, so they or whoever writes up their entries, tend to have it flagged up prominently in their wikipedia introductions, Doctor Who is a big deal on any actors CV these days. They cannot await until it is released for the paychecks to start improving.
I think that they need to be allowed to do this and that needs to be appreciated. It could perhaps lead to perhaps, the next Sheridan Smith doing her audios as an unknown then finding fame before they are actually released.
I am happy to await future releases as they reach the end of the pipeline and don't want to look too far ahead, but in the business, I can appreciate the need to get news out there.
A side note though - reading shallacatop's comments about the Yeti/Haisman estate, that seems a deserved case of greed leaving them out of pocket in the long run.

She became even more famous later on but Sheridan was far from unknown when signed up to play Lucie. She'd been the co-lead in BBC3's longest running show, Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, and had starred as a regular in quite a few other BBC One and ITV shows alongside Lenny Henry, Tamsin Greig and Paul O'Grady.

It'll be nice to have some new Tom Baker audios to listen to whilst wandering through the post-apocalyptic wreckage.

I was aware of that myself of course, but thought of her in terms of how BF got in there relatively early and thanks to that, she remained on-board as her career took off. I think there is a case to revitalise BBC3 as a nurturing ground for young talent (not merely online), if you ask me. You don't have to be a viewer, but can benefit from it in the long term as a kind of incubator.

All Hail Tom Baker!
Edit: Also, I cannot wrap my head around being upset that this was announced now. What could possibly be wrong with knowing there are a minimum of four more 'seasons' of 4? It's not like you have to pre-order now if you don't want to.
