All Hail Tom Baker!
Edit: Also, I cannot wrap my head around being upset that this was announced now. What could possibly be wrong with knowing there are a minimum of four more 'seasons' of 4? It's not like you have to pre-order now if you don't want to.
Has anyone said they’re upset by it? I think on the whole there’s some balanced opinions about it being odd to have an announcement so long in advance and it’s hard to get excited about it. I don’t think that’s unreasonable; it’s just the way these things work, especially where Tom is concerned. It’s great that we have many more years of Fourth Doctor stories to come, but it’s not a surprise as such; the surprise will come when we get further news... nearer the time. I’m not targeting you specifically, but recently we seem to be going through a cycle where we’re not actually reading what people have said and then posting false things about it, having a dig (inadvertently or otherwise) at stuff people haven’t actually said or done. There’s always a way to offer your opinion without altering what others have said. We can do better than that. All hail Tom Baker; now that I can agree with!

With stuff on being discovered on a CV, it’s typically left open to speculation. I’d say the main issue is if it’s a big release, or something not planned to be announced or released for a while. Speculation can lead to unrealistic expectations, but that’s par for the course. Prime example being the so-called "Martha Jones Boxset" Dorney certainly leads people to believe that they have got hold of the wrong end of the stick on this one!!!

More 4th Doctor is never a bad thing. But would rather learn more about stuff that's not several years away.

ITS an English expression(very common) which basically means things have been misinterpreted in this case we think there is a MJ Boxset, but maybe there ain't!!!The stick in question is a walking stick which we are holding upside down, and still trying to walk!!!(Strange lot us Brits!!!!)

anyway from the Big Finish Day Stream someone on Reddit pointed out that it was mentioned that Lisa McMullin and John Dorney are writing 4DA stories that’ll be out in 2025 so that must be for Series 14 (2025)

I think they said they had already written them, which would make sense as people have seen evidence of series 16 being recorded currently. However I could be thinking far too much in a straight line...perhaps they are recording multiple series at the same time! I am so grateful that Tom has returned to the role after spending so long away and that Big Finish are making the most of that return.

True but there are days, like yesterday with this announcement, where I wonder what we missed by Tom taking so long to come around. The Main Range with Doctors 4, 5, 6 and 7 right from the start. How many new adventures with Tom & Lis? How many more runs with Tom & Mary? I’m glad he finally came in from the cold but there are times where I get a little weepy thinking about what we missed out on.

Responding on point requires me to call others out, but no, I did not misread anything. Early in the thread, there are people criticizing BF for announcing this now. Or you could call it "questioning the decision". I don't care about the exact phrase that should be used. I just don't see any point in criticizing, being baffled, etc. They announced it, so hooray. Case closed.

Question/Straw Poll for those interested in the physical media...
I assume that we are going from three pieces of artwork for each box set (one for each story and one on the slip cover), plus of course the loss of the reversible era specific covers for each story, down to just the single cover e.g. like Gallifrey: Time War, The Paternoster Gang, etc.?
I know this is a cost cutting measure along with the standardisation of the releases into three story sets.
But I was wondering about writing into enquires or the podcast to ask if they could consider replacing the jewel case cover with a textless variant. Would that be cost prohibitive? I assume not, as artists often release images of their artwork without the writing on it. But would they have to pay more to do that? Would this be something you would like to see?
It annoys me having the same image repeated three times in a set, as it is also on the cover of the lavish four page booklet as well on the jewel case and on the slip case.

Not posting stuff that people haven’t actually said or done in order to have a pop or back up your own view. But that’s just me.

Not hugely thrilled by the news this range is moving back to predominantly two-parters on the face of it, although admittedly the Syndicate Masterplan run seemed to significantly improve a lot of the problems the first seven series had.

While I agree that the 4DAs have had some rushed or forgettable two-parters that suffered for their length, there have been some great hour-long stories in every season. And of course, two hour-longs can easily form a secret four-parter, the way Death Match follows Requiem, or how many of the 2x2 MRs connected! More than anything I'm just happy that the stories aren't all the same length. Some two parts, some fours, maybe even some ones and threes?!

About time we had an Alan Turing historical adventure from Big Finish. Wonder at which point in Turing’s lifetime this will take place in?

I have fingers crossed that Dominant Species will bring the Quarks and Dominators to Big Finish (I can live in hope!). I’d almost put money on that being the case!

I’m liking the flexibility of story formats in Series 13 across the three sets; looks to be a mixture of 2, 4 & 6 parters. I guess there could be a 5 and a 3 thrown into the mix for good measure, but that seems less likely!
I think this series is probably the best indication of how the Doctor ranges will be looking moving forward.

I think this series is probably the best indication of how the Doctor ranges will be looking moving forward. Set is a 4-parter and a 2-parter (there was a reference on Khan/Salinsky's website to their story being "hour-long"); Set 2 is presumably 2:2:2; and Set 3 is presumably also 4:2. I don't think there's any 6-parters.
