Fair play to Jason, his skills of persuasion must be superior to Moffat's if he succeeded in 2020 where Moffatt failed in 2013 No denying that or taking anything away from today's fantastic news, but from the outside looking in, Eccleston is in a different place when it comes to Doctor Who (and life in general) than he was in 2013. He's gone to conventions, connected with fans and was constantly asked about returning. Also, audio is very different than television in terms of the work involved and the impact on the general public. I think it's just down to timing and I'm thrilled that we have another dozen (!) performances to look forward to.

Streaming has introduced a whole new generation of fans to Eccleston and I think that's played a role here.

If Barowman behaved like that in almost any other workplace he'd be dismissed without notice for gross misconduct and quite rightly so. He was very much on the wrong side of the line Exactly, but he would say its just banter. Which is the same excuse people use in the workplace for sexist, racist comments. I know this is off topic but its really poor behaviour from him. I wouldn't want to work with someone like that, in fact I would make a formal complaint. I think John Barrowman is an amazing actor and a great showman. I met him last year and it was wonderful. But I just can't caution what he may have done. Showing your "dong" onset is just... You know what I mean.

Eccleston's book goes into more about his own mental health at the time. It was when his anorexia was at it's worst and he was having some massively dark times. Add to that a working environment that he felt encouraged bullying from the top, and Barrowman thinking exposing himself was "banter" (something the Torchwood guys have said he did on their set too) and you can see why he was so reluctant to return to the show for so long, bringing him back into that mindset. Barrowman was probably the least of his issues with the set but it's one Chris has cited as being unprofessional and making crew who weren't the stars with clout to complain very uncomfortable. His book seems to have helped him exorcise a lot of demons. He sought help for his (lack of) weight issues and mental health. Seeing on the convention circuit how happy his work made people also seems to have reinforced a fresh start with the show. He now talks about it in interviews rather than a few words and moving on. Always interesting to listen to Eve Myles talking about sitting in make up, turning her head, then getting smacked by Barrowman's dong in the face 😱 lol
Most people do that and they find themselves facing sexual assault charges...

It's official. There is nothing that Big Finish can't do. *Waits patiently for May 2021* If I was a betting man I'd put my money on there being a TLV announcement in a couple days with Chris.

Okay, yes please. If Eccleston is happy to return to playing The Doctor, I am more than willing to buy these plays 😀

Pre-ordered!!!!
My gut feeling on this was always that someday he'd return, but that someday was a distant notion so it's a fantastic surprise that he's landed at Big Finish. I thought the jig might be up when the contributor page thing happened, but it's nevertheless thrilling to finally get to hear more from Nine. One can cover a lot of ground across four box sets so I'll be looking forward to Eccleston and Piper being reunited for more adventures as Rose will no doubt appear in some or all of the sets and I hope we'll also get more Jackie as I always thought Nine and Jackie played well together. Perhaps this will also be the time when Noel Clarke is lured back to play Mickey. I also hope that Nine and River will happen at some point. There's just so many possibilities to get excited about here!
Now I'm wondering if Nine is part of the Out of Time stories. I believe we heard that they wanted to make a big splash with the announcements for the second and third releases. Eccleston having his first ever multi-Doctor story would certainly make a splash!

What a strange world to be living in where Eccleston is doing 12 new Doctor Who stories but Capaldi hasn't done any. As a card-carrying fan I'd have thought he'd have been much easier to persuade.

I don't think it too strange. I would imagine any actor would wish to try a lot of new roles when they leave the show & now want to go backwards.

I'd also think a contributing factor being that this isn't the same production team he worked with on tv, so no baggage from his time then or chance of a repeat of what went on.

I mean, Chris has been away for fifteen years, but Peter has only been away for three. Not that I'm not as shocked as you on that front!

So lets go into wild speculation overload on a warm summer Sunday evening. Chris is going to be in the 60th anniversary special then? If BF do one that must be pretty much guaranteed? But what if he came back to do it on tv as well! All the Nu-Who Doctors plus McGann in an epic anniversary special which ends with Jodie regenerating into Jo Martin's Doctor!

I told a friend of mine the news about Eccleston this morning.
The first words out of her mouth: "Do we have to wait five years to hear it?"

Busy day at work. Took a minute to check my phone. Opened up the email, promptly said "Fark me!" a little too loudly and dropped my damn phone. Hats off to the forum guys who trawl through the BF web site looking for this kind of stuff. You people found it first. Information wants to be free! Maybe Out of Time will feature 9. That would be cool. 4 box sets is the interesting thing to me. Jumping right in. Good for him. We know Nick is directing and writing for it as well. I'm be curious if this is a War Doctor & Dark Eyes situation where he writes the entire first set. No disrespect to Nick but I hope not. Too many talented writers writing for Big Finish. ......I wonder if there is anything Time Lord Victorious that hasn't been announced yet that might feature a Doctor from the north. Exciting news and a good time to be a fan of audio Doctor Who.

There are two writers I’d love to see for these sets. Davies and Shearman. Two of the defining writers for this era. Now before anyone says impossible, just remember that we’d have all said the same thing about Eccleston yesterday.
