A past incarnation of the Doctor brings themselves back from the dead either as a ghost or possesses the current incarnation of the Doctor possibly even physically regressing them to their previous incarnation. In a similar theme, in the very first New Adventure ( Timewyrm: Genesys) the Seventh Doctor summons the Third Doctor’s personality to disarm a bomb for him. There’s been a few (brief) physical regressions too ( Timeslip, State of Change). Never due to the machinations of the past Doctors though. I could see Seven trying it to overrule his successor.

The Doctor defeats a villain by deliberately making themselves off putting to the villain so they aren’t interested in them anymore.

A story that ends in a dance party! "The Macra Terror" did! The Doctor, Polly, Ben and Jamie dance their way out of the story.

More stories should end with dance parties! Would love to see an episode end at a big formal event that turns into a raucous dance party after the Doctor saves the day.

A story which explores the famous disappearance of popular wartime band musician Glen Miller.

This would sort of be a cross between the land of fiction and the tree portals in Nightmare before Christmas, the Doctor and companion(s) visit a strange realm of Holidays (both from Earth and the rest of the universe). Each holiday would have their own section but some would bleed into each other’s. There would be skeletons, Santa Claus and krampus, leprechauns, Easter bunnies, but also strange icons and traditions from otherworldly holidays like from Galifrey, Venus, Mars, perhaps even Skaro ( what kind of holidays would Daleks celebrate? Davros Day). Like the Land of Fiction, it would be strange, eerie and unsettling at times, with the Doctor and companions being made to participate in twisted versions of all the holiday traditions.

Definitely not what you are going for but you could make a rather interesting commentary on how various holidays are marketed and how certain companies/economies profit off them. Maybe a literal holiday war with various representatives of different holidays fighting one another for stock space?

A look at a Captain Jack from an alternate timeline who never met the Doctor and as such was never made immortal or joined Torchwood. A Jack who remained loyal to the Time Agency. What sort of man would he be?

I know why they haven’t made an appearance yet but I feel the Reapers could be used for a Time War focused story. Imagine the Time Lords creating deliberate paradoxes to unleash them upon the Dalek forces.

The Doctor takes on a companion who is a convicted criminal. It would be very easy to have the companion simply be framed for a crime they didn’t commit but it might be more interesting if they are actually guilty.
For whatever reason, the Doctor might have to break them out of death row and then their travels with him begin.
Now why on Earth, the Doctor would ever travel with a convicted felon is beyond me but that’s what story development and further drafts is for.

The Doctor has a companion who turns out to be a ghost and has been the entire time they were traveling together.

Considering we now have a pastiche of Superman in the Ghost, we’re probably due a homage to a certain caped crusader sometime soon.

Much like my aforementioned Bills Manger example, I’m surprised we’ve never been given a definitive origin for the Weevils before. Or at least had the Doctor bump into them at some point. I don’t count their brief appearances in The Pandorica Opens and The Big Bang as they’re merely cameos.

Huh. I stand corrected. I actually rather like that explanation to be honest.

A story set during the Vietnam War.
A story where Brian the Ood is returned to the Ood Sphere and his fellow Ood Kind try to rehabilitate him and reintegrate him back into Ood society.
Safe to say, Mr Ball has some objections.
