Absolutely shocked by this news! Had no idea Chadwick Boseman had been fighting colon cancer for 4 years and a very unpleasant thing to wake up to. So sad the king is dead. Was looking forward to 'Black Panther 2'. He'll be greatly missed. Here's my review on 'Black Panther' for people to read - bradleybasement.wordpress.com/marvel-cinematic-universe/black-panther-film/Wakanda forever! Tim.

"Blindsided" isn't quite the word for it, but it's pretty close.
I remember seeing Captain America: Civil War and enjoying the film, but the character of T'Challa really caught my eye. There, he was a noble and dignified prince seeking to avenge his father's death. While he was at odds with these more familiar characters, it wasn't for any lack of respect, nor raw bloodlust. He was dutiful. Refined. One of those natural leaders. You could see why his people would follow him, but he wasn't invulnerable either. He had his own demons that he wouldn't let define him. All of that in, what was essentially at the time, a freshly introduced side character. Chadwick Boseman brought all of that to life and I was eager to see him in Black Panther. I think that film remains my favourite of the MCU and that's in no small part down to its leading man. He's certainly my favourite character from the Marvel roll of honour.
I wish we'd had him here for longer. What he managed in such a comparatively short amount of time was incredible. Rest in peace, Mr Boseman.

Blimey talk about kick in the guts, one of my favourite Avengers movies is Black Panther & Chadwick Boseman brought that character to life, so i assume he was battling cancer throughout the making of Black Panther & the last two Avengers movies.
Very very sad hear of his passing, taken far too soon, a great actor who'll be missed.

It blows me away that so many of his biggest roles were in the last four years - when he was sick - and he kept fighting, kept acting, kept being a role model, when no-one would have faulted him for taking it easy. What a guy.
(Also, one of the things people are talking about today is how Chadwick had to fight for Black Panther to have an African accent, which is definitely an important aspect of the character/world - can you imagine a British or American Wakanda?)

This clip has been circulating and is even more powerful knowing that he was fighting the same battle as those two young fans.
And this was a simple yet moving little acknowledgment:

Not sure if this is the right place, but how are we at with men allowed to show emotions/weakness? Because it seems like not showing weakness is a higher aspiration than reaching out. That would be a hugely in-play carrot (stigma for), no matter how much progress we make at lessening the stigma against.

At the risk of putting words into the deceased's mouth...I have the impression that for Chadwick Boseman, keeping his fight private was to give a generation of Black kids--particularly the terminal ones he visited, while he was fighting his own battle--hope. Hope, and a vision of a Black hero who is both strong in his own right, and of a Black man who loves and cherishes his family, and is lifted up by his bonds with them. For a generation of kids, Chadwick Boseman is and will forever be T'Challa, King of Wakanda.

I think what's admirable and inspiring is not that he didn't show weakness but that he persevered despite it. True he didn't show that weakness publically but he could - and hopefully did - lean on his family and friends when times were tough while keeping things private. If someone is a big-name celebrity battling something like that, I'm sure it would be hell for them to see their face on tabloids, with headlines like "Tragedy! DAYS left to live!!" no matter how good or bad their prognosis is...
