Might be a bit of a buzzkill, but I'd have to say John Locke from Lost.
This is a man with a conception of who he is that is very different from the life he actually leads, which causes him a great deal of bitterness and frustration. Before landing on Craphole Island, it seemed like his every attempt to become the person he wanted to be was denied either through his own failing or by fate's cruelty. On the Island, he found his purpose, something to believe in, and could reinvent himself as he had dreamed of. But even then, he was prone to self-doubt and crises of faith.
I don't want to get too far into the weeds with my personal life, but suffice to say, I know all of these feelings only too well.
