On the Subject of Sarah A lot of people criticize the character of Sarah and Jennifer Connolly’s performance for being too over the top, bratty, weird, and for it being unrealistic that someone who looks like her to be stuck at home babysitting. I think her character and portrayal makes total sense. She is a socially awkward geeky sometimes mellow dramatic daydreaming teenage girl, something that is very familiar to me when I was a teen and still now. Also I get the sense that despite not wanting to babysit, Sarah is an introvert and rather daydream and make up stories in her head than go to wild parties and things. The masked ball scene illustrates this while she is fascinated by the glamour of it all she is also completely overwhelmed and out of her comfort zone. She is also meant to evoke Dorthy and Alice which I think is reflected in her somewhat dreamlike performance. Plus her whole journey is a metaphor for coming of age and trying to balance childhood and adulthood, so of course she’s not going to be some perfect Mary Sue, and to be honest I am glad her character is the way she is because Sarah is very relatable. I agree, especially on the Dororthy and Alice parallels. And also she's just a weirdo. Some kids are, and that's okay. I was a weirdo when I was that age, and often dramatic and off putting. Come to think of it, I'm probably still a weirdo now. Jennifer Connelly is a bit spacey and spooky, but I like that about her. Dark City is another film where she just suits the mood so well. At any rate, while it's not a naturalistic performance, it's I think fitting with the fairy tale story. Would most annoyed big sisters loudly wish their brother was kidnapped by goblins? No. But a fairy tale princess might. I think that’s why I gravitate towards her character too, being a spacey weirdo myself🤔😊

Ahh never seen it but I have heard it mentioned as one of the prominent creepy cult British nostalgic children’s show🤔 Maybe you should start a thread about that show 😉

As promised, I bought the 4K edition of Labyrinth, and it came today. There was a nice note from Brian Henson included. Most of it was talking about the restoration process, but he also said that Jim Henson was very proud of the movie, and they're very flattered it continues to have personal meaning to so many people. So we're not alone, and we're not crazy!
I'll report back once I get a chance to sit down and watch it. The disc was rattling around in the box when it arrived and there's some scratches on it so I'm a little worried.

Perhaps I imagined it but wasn’t there talk of doing a sequel or at least a continuation to Labyrinth recently?

Yes there is a sequel, I am not sure how I feel about that since we don’t have Bowie🤔 I guess they will need to have a new goblin king or queen, not sure who could possibly replicate the magic of Bowie🤔

Fingers crossed the scratches don’t effect it!🤞 Side note: Oddly enough I wore my Jareth shirt today 😁

Enjoy!😊it’s amazing how much that movie has touched people😊 out of curiosity is it the 30th anniversary version? There are so many brilliant extras! Fingers crossed the scratches don’t effect it!🤞 Side note: Oddly enough I wore my Jareth shirt today 😁 As a matter of fact it is, so I look forward to pawing through all the supplements. I gave it a shot real quick and it loads just fine, tried a couple scenes, they were fine too. So I think it's okay even with the scratches. Bluray and 4K discs can take more of a beating than DVDs could. You know, I'd forgotten there's a bit during the Magic Dance number where Jareth just boots a chicken out of his way and carries on dancing like nothing happened. It is amazing how much this film has been loved over the years. But, at the same time I'm not surprised. A lot of the time the movie industry is like a sausage factory, they just churn out product. But sometimes they make something special. There's no way to do it on purpose, but when it happens you can just tell. And Labyrinth is something special. Side note to your side note: What a coincidence. Must've been something in the air today.

That’s right, adds an interesting bit of subtext to Jareth’s character I think!
