Pretty much. Among the anti-Moffat trolling there was also some very dodgy posts on the old BF forum from one of our old DU buddies [no longer here] that was causing concern in the weeks before the shutdown. So keeping on top of everything being posted was becoming a big issue as nobody at BF could monitor their forum 24/7 and some discussions were getting out of hand.
I remember them saying about the difficulty of 24/7 monitoring, but I didn't know the BBC had a hand in it as well. Am I allowed to ask who the dodgy poster was? No. We don't talk about members who are no longer here to respond.

Hurray! I am so glad I found this place. A safe place in the internet.
I am happy I found all you nice people and I love our chats and discussions. I hope this will continue for at least another 5 years.

A bit of history, the day the official Big Finish forum shut down, a bunch of us started congregating in a FB group to discuss how to re-start the forum. In the meantime, TinDogPodcast, who I believe is not on FB, started this forum on Proboards. As we found out about it, a bunch of us started to sign up and discuss how we wanted to proceed (a lot of this discussion can still be found in the early threads of the Community board). TinDogPodcast selected a few of us who were more vocal in expressing how the forum should look and be run and made us moderators. We started to organize the forum structure, voted on a name (the vote was open to all the initial forum members), and glutamodo was instrumental in getting the forum banner and favicon design up on the forum. Tony Jones and acousticwolf were also instrumental in a lot of the work to get the forum up and running, as well as jasonward, who, sadly, is no longer with us. It's been fun, so far. Here's hoping it continues. Considering forums aren't really the way people connect anymore, in general, I'm pretty happy we're still around.

I wasn't aware how this place started out.

I remember the announcement on the BF forum, where I was not a member but a keen reader of the threads (to inform my purchases) and was disappointed. I remember well the news from yourselves of the setting up of first the FB page and then this forum. For a long time, I did not join up but viewed frequently. I found that usually my own views got expressed by others anyway, so did not feel the need to post. I finally signed up three years ago, as I had less of a workload on evenings to contend to and had time to start posting myself. One observation from myself as a relatively late comer, taking into account that it is a continuation of the BF forum, is how much more civil it has become over time. There is a lot more breadth in the discussion threads and more to post positively about. People do not come to pick arguments and there is more respecting of others opinions. If someone likes something you don't, why try to tell them they are in the wrong? I think most of us here appreciate different perspectives and do not get personal nor worked up. That is something that has certainly evolved with the changing composition of the Forum members. So - thanks indeed to those of you mentioned above for the good work in setting things up and especially the ongoing active work of the Moderators who put the time in and are always vigilant and very fair. No agendas at all.

The other moderators/admins who helped get the forum going, in addition to TinDogPodcast, Tony Jones, jasonward, acousticwolf and glutamodo were: coffeeaddict, kfbate, kimalysong, elkawho, and myself. kimalysong and acousticwolf stepped down from the Mod/Admin team a while ago for personal reasons, but we still recognize the contributions of the all the initial mods, who worked hard to get the forum up and running and had many discussions about what forum rules would be needed to keep this a fun and civil place. Seems to have worked, so far.

I've been thinking about that transition from the closed BF forum to this place all day. Thanks Ela for commenting on how things started, and charlesuirdhein for those messages letting me know this was here early on. The day the old forum closed was the day of the Series 9 premier episode. I had been on the forum in the morning, then took my kids to the NY Ren Fair and, as we did back then, we went to The Pandorica in Beacon NY for dinner and to watch it on a big screen. I got home late but signed onto the BF website anyway to add to the "Made My Day.." thread and it was gone. Just gone. I was shocked. Then came us finding each other on FB, discussing what to do in what we called The Zero Room. It wasn't the same. All kudos to TinDogPodcast for grabbing the moment and jumping on it to create this place. And the terror I felt when he asked me to moderate. Actual terror. But I said yes, anyway. I have made great relationships with more than a few folks here, and some that I miss who have left for one reason or another. Here's to many more years of posts, discussions and laughs here in our little corner of the internet.

i want to say a proper thank you to everyone who set it up, monitor us and tell us off when we naughty, those who kindly comment on the often ridiculous posts, anyone kind enough to like those ridiculous post, those who read the post and don't point out all the grammar and spelling mistakes and generally everyone who makes this place feel like family.
also remember those we have lost, kicked out, deleted their accounts and those who just go into hibernation
Thank You and long may you continue

Ah, yes, charlesuirdhein was instrumental in recruiting people from among the BF refugees on the Zero Room FB group to vote on what to do about a new forum. And I believe it was Audio Watchdog who created the Zero Room and was very involved with getting us to discuss where to take our ongoing discussions after the BF Forum shut down. At least, I remember him being very involved from the beginning.

I remember it being a frantic week or two with various places springing up and it took us a while to work out it was TinDogPodcast who'd set the first version of this up. A few of use begged for admin permission and carved out the first version of this site. I had a couple of weeks juggling work, the forum and it seemed a bit intense for a while. I was happy to do some admin work on the structure but don't have the patience to be a moderator, so congrats to all those who put in the hours. I do remember spending ages trying to find the proper RGB code for TARDIS blue to help get the first version of the theme started! It's definitely a team effort and it's still great seeing people find us and join in. The passing of the BF forum has definitely had plenty of silver linings!

And so it went. 5 years. Yeah, the new Doctor was one of the reasons they listed for closing it down. Also wasn't it the evening just after a Big Finish Day?

I remember the official BF forum shutting down with no announcement. I remember also getting messages from my mate Timelord007 to come over to this board, it definitely took a few months/maybe up to a year?!?! My boy had just been born, and he had a couple little issues when he was born, plus living on very minimal sleep as you do with a newborn. I can recall the fun once joining up reading posts and slowly joining in the convo's- then happening to see a lot of posts on here read the same as on various FB Big Finish pages and slowly recognising forum members in their "face book worlds" LOLZ. Fun times 100% DEFINITELY outweight the lil nagging struggles and complications along the way- we really are more respectful on here compared to how the other forum ended up in the last couple months, great to see it is pretty much self sufficient to a degree- a testament to the mutual respect people have on here.

I did say at the time that it was a good thing that the BF Forum closed, both for them and the fans. It was all a bit too close to home.
It did though need some dedicated bods to start something else, so good job you lot stepped in with this excellent (and independent) alternative.
Here's to the next 5 years!
