I have to admit, looking at all three covers, the second cover does look kinda bland compared to the other two - not that it matters really. Nobodys going to buy the second boxset in a three part series and maybes its simple for a reason - i.e to not give anything away. Still the other two, especially number three look stunning

Still catching up with recent announcements.. so let me get this one straight in my head : next April we get the start of nine hours of a TARDISless Ten, the return of Jane Slavin's Ann/Anya, Daleks, Mechanoids, Movellans, a setting pre the Time War and a prequel featuring Four, Leela and K9 with the possibility of a meeting / paradox between Four and Anya BEFORE he crossed paths with Ann? Okay then...I'm in! Just one little problem... 😁 View AttachmentAlso the 9DAs and possible announcement of 2DAs; plus the TLV crossover with Tenant and McGann. 2021 is looking to be an insane year, even without the MR ending. Hell, we even started the year with Masterful, which was pretty great. and I think maybe Out of Time 2 is also scheduled for the end of the year? i dunno. It's crazy. And there are still plenty of openings in the release schedule.

There’s a lengthy article about the first set in the latest Vortex. It doesn’t actually tell you a massive amount about what to expect, but I’m sure that’s to conceal some surprises, and has enough intrigue to keep you anticipating its release.
Unfortunately, if you are fatigued by the Tenth Doctor being paired with various past elements, then I don’t think the article will help that; plenty of mentions of Bret & Sara, Varga, etc.

The 10DAs haven’t particularly re-used old elements terribly regularly.

Your regular reminder that there’s nothing inherently bad about these things. Of course, given the companion’s surname is ‘Kingdom’, and the word is mentioned in the title of the third story, it’d probably be weird to avoid mentioning Bret and Sara.

The 10DAs haven’t particularly re-used old elements terribly regularly. All 20 things announced that David has recorded during lockdown features some form of returning or past element or some form of gimmick. Your mileage may vary, as discussed in-depth in the Classic Companions thread at the time of announcement, but if you were on the fence about Dalek Universe because of this, the Vortex article won’t help with that. I understand there’s plenty of surprises in store, or things that cannot be talked about due to spoilers, but naturally that won’t help the appeal if you’re cautious to begin with.

Sure, although I think that’s a little unfair on River - I don’t see that she’s really a gimmick more than using an old companion like Rose or Donna would be. However, the general point I’m making is that seeing as most of those releases aren’t out yet, it’s surely hard to be fatigued by the idea of him meeting past elements... because he hasn’t met many yet, barely any in fact. (I would completely get it around the time Classic Companions was released)

Actually I was thinking about the irony of the Tenth Doctor/Donna Big Finish stories and how little fanjodrell they contained when they came from a season that was choc full of throwbacks to the show at that time - returns of Rose, Martha, Daleks, Davros, Sontarans and the full cast reunion at the end. It was refreshing to have a set of stories that gave the Tennant/Tate relationship room to breathe! I'm looking forward to Dalek Universe as a kind of B Movie style rollercoaster rather than a story of substance in it's own right. It's not often the check list stories ever go beyond that. One request though. If there are returns to Dalek jungles in the future, please no more sodding Varga plants!!! Even Terry Nation only used them once!

We're fatigued before they are even out because the premises have been used so many times already, in other releases (how many Doctors need to meet Leela?) with predictable results.
