Awesome! You should add a poll!
This story is one of my absolute favorites and certainly in my top 10. I think I have now listened to it 10 times? 12? Something like that. Some of the lines I know by heart.
Charley and 8 are at the top of their game and the banter is simply wonderful. There is none of that later baggage with the unfulfilled love subplot which made Charley into a whiny sobby teenager. Charley clearly shows she can stand on her own and is carrying around a big sword for most of the play, and she is also allowed to dive into the costume department. The Doctor is going through a whole range of emotions and is also allowed to show his darker side- the vengeful, dangerous side that is so prominent in Tennant's run. You simply do not threaten a companion or p*ss the Doctor off, or you are in VERY deep trouble. He will come for you and he will destroy you utterly. McGann is just fantastic when he goes into full danger/ threat mode. This is not the silly, bouncy and weird guy anymore, this Doctor means business and gives you shivers down your spine.
The story is a very well written timey-whimey run- around with an interesting villain who works great in his confrontations with 8. The monsters pulling the strings in the background... I still have not seen the classical serial where they appear, so I cannot really judge on how they compare here (of course in my minds eye they have less of a shoddy costume, but that goes with the territory of BF audio). At least they have been used well here as far as I can tell.
For the McGann appreciation society, we also get a treat, because there is a whole scene of the Doctor shirtless...
But the most important bit is- this is just so much fun to listen to. Some of the best one liners are in there, like: "I went to an orgy once." -"Charlotte Pollard!" -"I didn't stay..."
And of course this must be the first time we have the Doctor scream "Geronimo!" while doing something heroic.

Well apart from that T word thingy😉 I do love Kestrels hard work it’s amazing how many stories wonderful or not are probably only commented in the WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TODAY thread.

As I said, I only like certain characters in Torchwood on audio. I still have not seen the TV series. But there are some great stories there and it is just silly to dismiss them out of hand. The two monthly episodes featuring Billis Manger (he would give the War Master a run for his money!) are wonderful horror tales completely independent from Torchwood and I also like Sgt. Andy.
The other stuff is up for debate.

Yes must agree it’s a Top Of The Game story in which I do not picture McGann Shirtless as I have seen that in an `episode of Jonathan Creek where he also shares the creek with Sheridan Smith 😜 Its a mark of a good audio when you can say lines as. The lines you remember are SO the character. Funnily I do not Mind The Horns Of The Nikon episode and I in now way altered their appearance mentally for this...it did have one hammy and I mean terrible performance from one cast member but Romana Lalla Ward really became a companion for me in this episode with one knock out angry scene.

I’ve said this before but considering this is now the official thread for such a discussion I’ll repeat it again.
I do think the villain of Sebastian Grayle is one of the best parts of this mainly because of how it explores the idea of possessing immortality but also being burdened with a human perspective. Watching a once good man slowly become corrupted and jaded over the centuries until he abandoned all his former principles (take for example how he refuses to harm a woman early on in his lifetime then later on having no such qualms) and allowed himself to succumb to his darker instincts is truly fascinating.
It’s something I wish had been explored more with the character of Ashildr in the revived series but the less said about her the better.

Fantastic audio drama, listened to this story many times, tense dark, edgy featuring great performances by the cast.
I reviewed this one on my Amazon review page under the title Seasons Of Excellence.

I love this story. It's one of my favorites and it's on a frequent rotation for me. When I first heard it I remember reading reviews and others' posts and it got a lot of criticism. I remember being surprised and shocked by how many people didn't like it. I went back and listened to it again immediately because I thought I missed something, and I was still new to listening to audio plays, and I like it even more on second listen. I just chalked it up to those people having no taste.

I think we should do not only our feelings about the episode and add things like OUR FAVOURITE LINES-BEST SOUNDS-BEST PERFORMANCE that kind of stuff if I want to review some audio I would actually come here as I know most of us are brutally honest lol but also well rounded and I like a well rounded review not an ass...li.....ðŸ¤

This one just ticks all my boxes a mystery,a formidable foe defeated at every turn and unexpected return of an old monster and done better, Paul Cornell a real ideas man and a real fan too write the crypt turn it over for the BF magicians to do their stuff and the actors and voila what I class as a classic of audio WHO-you are right-no taste (and that was without COVID)

This is the story that sold me on Big Finish. I like Cornell’s New Adventures, so I tried SoF. And now here I am, several *ahem* releases later.
