DWU 3: Full Fathom Five-David Bishop
One of THE best Unbound series.Collings is an amazing actor and this is a powerhouse of a story. It will be nice to give it its own thread...It’s Dark, dramatic, beautifully acted and with an ending to die for...

Definitely one of the more terrifying alternate versions of the Doctor. Dare I say even more so than the Valeyard?
I have no doubt in my mind that had this Doctor been given the opportunity in ‘Genesis’ he would have destroyed the Daleks and Davros once and for all and ensured the Time War never came to pass. As for the Master? Who knows what Colling’s Doctor might have done to stop him.
Only real issue I have with the tale is that the character of the father comes across at times like rather a caricature than an actual person but otherwise it’s a practically perfect adventure.

There’s a horror movie called Alien? That’s really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.

I think he’s let himself become bitter because he’s been exiled and he’s managed to lose his TARDIS as well. Now he’s stuck on Earth without even access to the tiny bit of home so he has become quite ruthless in how he tries to achieve his ends. He’s the smartest person in the room and he hates it. Frankly, I can see this incarnation shooting the Master so he can steal his TARDIS.

Frankly, I can see this incarnation shooting the Master so he can steal his TARDIS. Definitely far more pragmatic then most of his alternate selves. Even if he did still retain some feelings of friendship towards the Master he’d probably still coldly shoot him down as you say and nick his TARDIS rationalising that he’s only taken one regeneration and he still has plenty more to go. Rather like putting on a new suit in that regard.

I think the acting is excellent for the most part and Collings is astonishing in this The ending makes the entire story. You just don't see it coming. But I think I'm going to surprise everyone by saying that in general I don't think it's a particularly well-written story. Other than that shocker ending, I have some issues with this one.

Ok, so I am able to admit when I am wrong. I took some time this week to listen to this again. Just hear me out here...
During the height of the Covid here in NJ, where it was truly awful, I listened to this. As much as I liked David Collings, I was irritated by the melodrama. I felt the character of Ruth was cloying and I was just irritated listening to it much of the time. I felt like it maybe hadn't aged well. As that was my last recollection of the story I made my above post. You guys asked me to elaborate so I listened to it again, and I can't believe how wrong I was. I loved the whole thing. Why did I have such a hard time with it only 5 months ago? The only thing I can think of is my frame of mind during Covid. I was a wreck much of the time. I have a feeling I just wasn't really able to appreciate it during that time.
Thanks for having me listen to it again you guys.

A lot of us - and I put myself at the top of that list - are not that forgiving.

Always saying that with TUIGIRl that I need to withhold my initial reactions as my mood really does affect my listening.it was good that you at least revisited the tale you could only confirm your initial judgement -but you didn’t and probably missed what I think is one of the great releases in the BF range....now let me go listen to EXILE again🤪🤮

Concerning Full Fathom 5... I don't know. I normally like villains, at least big bad Bond style villains. More realistic ones... I sometimes have a hard time dealing with. As with the first War Master set, this story just left me feel cold inside. I did not like how the Doctor was shown there. And it also is not like the Valeyard... the Valeyard has some more theatrical flair to him and this is why he works and why we love him. But this story... it is just COLD.
