I haven't heard this one is a long time. As a set-up for the new series it works. No where near the strongest story this range has to offer, but a good outing for John Barrowman and it works to introduce The Committee, although they didn't really know what to do with it once they had it. In fact, Barrowman is better in this than I had remember.
In short, a decent intro to a range that quickly outshines its first story. The next release is one of the best they ever did.
Reminder: Next week we have 2 stories to listen to. Short Trips: Etheria and Pathfinders: Mummy's Mask: The Half-Dead City

It’s the only one I won’t be able to comment on but I will have a read at what you say about it.

Feel I should like this more than I do. As is well acted and story idea is interesting. But it repeats itself too much. With Jack been called up to meet somebody and going back to the hotel.
Overall I enjoyed listening to it and makes me want to check out the other stories in the range.

This one does its job. Jack is back and the Committee is established. The narration is a bit of an awkward fit, I’m not sure why the two Jack stories in Series 1 rely on it so much as the others immediately hit the ground running without it.
Its far from the best of the range but a competent opener, which led to greater things down the line.

A good opening to the Torchwood range and a good take on the conspiracy theorist genre.
The twist is pretty good too. 7 out of 10.

A strong opening episode - I actually think the narration works quite well. Liked it as much as I did five years ago (it helps that I only vaguely remembered the twist!)

It was time for another listen as I'd forgotten the twists and I enjoy the range in general. Sometimes Torchwood stories don't easily get re-listens from me as I often find them very memorable and if I want to be surprised by events again it can be a long wait.
Agreed it's a good opener for the range, I think it's a very good story in general, with compelling supporting cast.

This was another release I hadn't heard before - I've gone round the TW monthly range like I had a broken vortex manipulator - back and forth, here and there. (In fact I'd almost forgotten I'd acquired this and the next two stories in the TW monthly range as part of a 'Humble Bundle' a couple of years ago, a very good deal indeed. Must hear the other two soon.)
I enjoyed it a lot as a serious TW story and, with hindsight from the later stories I've heard, it set the range up well. Many or even most of the Jack stories I've heard so far have been what you might call 'fun Jack'; this one was deadly serious Jack, though it started seeming a bit lighter in tone with the 'TW fan' blogger and conspiracy-theory satire. But it became properly dark with two actually shocking moments, set The Committee up as a very dangerous threat (now I understand a fair bit more about some later stories I've already heard) and I liked the twist which definitely came as a surprise; the 'least likely person'. The narration was also a surprise, but I don't mind some narration in full-cast stories from time to time, so that wasn't a problem. And the guest cast was excellent.
Another successful 'discovery' for me as part of our listen-thru, I'm enjoying this!

If you even vaguely liked TV TW Series 1 and 2 there is something in nearly all the Monthly's for you. They're a mix of Dark, Mature, Funny, rarely OTT (Norton Folgate aside) On Thread point I Remember thinking This is a good thriller set up, Scott Handdcock's Direction is really good, and JB sounds surprisingly engaged. And picking up a few I fancy from the back catalogue whenever a sale comes round.
I've got about 2/3 now and I must say I like the BF TW stories much better than I did the TV series. I watched most of S1 and parts of S2 and can hardly remember any of them! 'Children of Earth' was the standout TV TW for me a few years later, superb and I can remember it in detail from only that one viewing.
Whatever makes you think Norton is OTT? Actually I owe Norton, and Andy, because it was 'Ghost Mission' which got me into collecting these, a monthly £2.99 offer story I think and so I thought oh well let's try it...
