The full release isn't out yet, but I checked out the first story ("Aimed at the Body" by James Kettle) and *really* enjoyed it.
{Spoilers for "Aimed at the Body": } It reminded me of "A Thousand Tiny Wings" in that it was a surprisingly quieter start to what's being set up as an epic story. I don't know much about cricket or its history, but was immediately captivated by the story of Douglas Jardine and his impact (no pun intended) on the game. I thought it was a bold choice to incorporate him into the story as they did. Even though you have an idea of where the story is going (in terms of the villains), I thought that the script was well-paced and engaging and anchored by solid performances across the board. It balanced the narrative between a self-contained story and providing enough mystery (and WTF-ness) making you want to continue.
I'm really liking these single episode 5th Doctor stories - they work really well for him. Also should note that audio design was phenomenal - kudos to the production team for making the remote recording sound flawless!

I listened to the 1st 15 mins of this.. As I live in Adelaide, Australia where this story is set I am Really curious as to where exactly the Doctor landed to have missed Adelaide Oval LOL. I am a good, 25-35 minute drive to the Oval depending on traffic.

Just looking at a map, wouldn't 1000km West be Madura, and 1000km East be Sydney? North-ish would also put ya' right smack-dab in the middle of the continent, near the intersection of South Austraila, Queensland and the Northern Territory. As-the-crow-flies, at least.

4 strong stories in interesting set up and so far barely a Shadow of a Dalek If BF are casting a new companion for their 9DA's Anji Mohindra should be seriously considered, She performed 4 clearly different but likable roles. My favorite stories were Lightspeed which is pure homage to at least well 1 known film with a Mr K Reeves in it and Bar at the End of the World which has a simple but clever premises in it. Side note once again 5 is more effective and engaging with strangers than his own companions. 4/5 Regards mark687

It's solo Fifth Doctor, an anthology release and dabbles in the Time War. It already ticked the right boxes for me before the theme tune kicked in!
I thought they were a good collection of stories. Peter Davison is really strong here and I love stories where the Fifth Doctor is on his own, as he slips into becoming part of the new group of characters effortlessly. Out of the guest cast I felt as though Anjli Mohindra was easily the strongest, playing four distinct characters and making them very much their own person. You could argue that's an actor's job, but when they're doing it pretty much back-to-back then it's all the more impressive.
My only criticism of this is that whilst each story is good, they don't feel like their own thing in a way an anthology normally would. I understand that's not the intention, which is fine, but the Shadow of the Daleks arc doesn't feel strong enough in the set. As though the Doctor goes back to square one with each story. Aimed at the Body was the best at the balance and the other three didn't feel like they quite matched up to that balance. It's just a minor change but I think it'd make the overall release stronger. We do have Part Two next month though!

Just finished the entire anthology, couldn't be impressed enough. I love how the four interlinked stories cautiously avoid placing the Fifth Doctor in the Time War, along with bringing in the recurring actors to voice different guest characters. An excellent experiment indeed. (Can't wait for the next volume!)
Apparently, I once came up with a very similar arc-based idea involving the Thirteenth (?) Doctor meeting a guest character in each episode - all played by the same actor. They are later revealed to be disguises of a single villain; probably the Master, or another Time Lord.
You know what? I think they should also do two-volume anthologies with the Sixth and Seventh incarnations. Maybe in boxsets?

Well, this was VERY well done. The Monthly Range really is on a roll this year. And I am intrigued with myself how much I enjoy the recent 5th Doctor stories, who never was my favorite.
Shadow of the Daleks is much better than expected, and I think this is because the Daleks are this intangible threat in the background.
This is really making the most out of the while lockdown situation- tight, haunting, claustrophobic tales with a small cast. And it is a sign of quality when these stories manage to send shivers down my spine. Very well done.

Concerning the Daleks- same here. This is why I was a bit anxious about this title because Nick screaming into his little toy for 2 hours can get a bit... old and grating. I need not have worried, the Daleks are very much in the background and we are left with 4 great atmospheric and creepy stories.
Here, I said it. Stories that are atmospheric and creepy. Despite a side- helping of Daleks.
Plus, Peter Davison gets to do some acting in putting his Doctor through a large range of emotions. He gets to be terrified, inquisitive, confused, angry, ... Not much boring and flat here.
I can really recommend this one.

I still have a little bit of part 4 left to go before bed, but I have to say that I'm certainly enjoying this release so far! An intriguing start so far I will say that 'Bookstore' does remind me of a play called 'The Weir' which, by pure coincidence, I had planned on watching this evening after work anyway!

But I really enjoyed it. I get the feeling that 1/ Big Finish finally understand how to write interesting concepts for the Time War these days. Between this and the recent Eighth Doctor box set, I really love what they are doing with it at the moment 2/ Five has been on a roll ever since Tartarus came out last year. I've really enjoyed his episodes recently, and that's something given how dull I usually think he is Can't wait to listen to the rest of the anthology. I'm usually very bored by the Daleks, but like you said they are really threatening here.

As above, I've only heard Aimed at the Body and it was very good. It was also a bit weird, with the Doctor desperately trying to make sense of the shifting landscape and characters around him. Never panicking, but so aware that time and space is being manipulated by his arch enemies.

Well I love 5 stories even if he wasn’t my fave Doctor but on audio he is the dashing hero these shorter stories work so well like The Time Apart ones and Demons of Red Lodge why is that?I did buy both sets part 1 and part 2 so I must have some hope that this will all be nicely tied up by the finale and two stories in I have not been disappointed and as said above so glad it’s not a massive Dalek vocal overload🤪😍
