On the desert world of Atharna, the Doctor’s life is about to be changed forever. Looking to visit one of the Seven Hundred Wonders of the Universe, he’s quickly embroiled in a web of deceit. Worse than that, this Wonder of the Universe is missing, and the Doctor is about to encounter one of his most dangerous and duplicitous adversaries. The Doctor is about to meet Brian.

A full-cast Time Lord Victorious audio, released at last!

It’s a fine Western-style runaround with the Doctor and Brian. I don’t think it will make anyone’s top ten, but it’s a perfectly serviceable start to the Eighth Doctor’s trilogy. Brian on audio is quite fun, Carson seems to be relishing performing the most atypical Ood yet, and this is certainly a good intro for his character for anyone who hasn’t read the novel.

I don't think the actual story will stick with me, I don't have a strong opinion on it either way, but it does what it needs to for Time Lord Victorious, which is the pairing of the Doctor & Brian.
Silas Carson is great and the character of Brian is a lot of fun and exactly how I imagined he'd be on audio following his debut in The Knight, The Fool and The Dead. I thought Paul McGann sounded knackered in this and it was pleasantly different to his Dark Eyes / Doom Coalition, etc. and Time War portrayals. It was most probably an acting choice, but it definitely worked in his favour whatever it was.
It's probably one that will work better once the whole trilogy is out and you can listen to them back-to-back and get the Eighth Doctor's full participation in one run. Shout out for the music, really stood out to me.

Its very reminiscent of early 8DA, so fast paced, strong performed romp.
Sails Carson is the Ood so I hope BF use Brian again
Struck once again by the fact that Actors in these Lockdown Recording sound really focused and engaged.

Just finished this. Well, this was very well done for a remotely recorded piece! You could not tell that they were not playing against each other. I liked the old frontier town/ Western setting. I also did not mind the accents too much, but at a guess, for a native speaker they might be more grating. Brian the Ood definitely was the star in this. What a great sinister and psychopathic character. Well played, too. I was also very happy with what McGann got to do, and that he got the chance to try out different voices so to speak. This was definitely my favorite TLV release so far!

A fun and interesting start to the Eighth Doctor's part of the 'TLV' series.

Honestly, this might be the most fun I've had with Eight since the Lucie box. Brian is a delightful villain, casual lesbians are always a win, and the setting was really cool. It's not revolutionary but it's a really fun romp with a great cast and a villain who makes an instant impression.

Let's get the Brian joke out of the way first. No!he is not the Messiah just a very naughty(assassin)Boy!!! The Wild West in space loved it.Although i think BF missed a trick here, should have got Clint Eastwood in as a guest star!! After listening to the short trips and now this,i have no idea where this is going? But big Oak trees from little acorns grow!!And i will find out in the fullness of time!So far its a yes from me!!!!

Brian was the best thing in this story. He was great, but I didn't didn't like this. The accents were terrible. I thought the actress playing the sheriff was especially bad and I didn't believe a thing that was going on here. The story was derivative and I thought Paul sounded bored through the whole thing. I enjoyed his BTS interview, he was more engaged in that than he was at any part of this story. I don't understand the comparison to the EDAs. They were fun. This was just tedious.

Poor attempts at an American accent aside, this was a fairly entertaining way to spend fifty something minutes.
Brian the Odd is a great concept and I definitely think as a character he’ll have a leg to stand on outside of this whole Time Lord Victorious affair.
In fact, if I squint hard enough I can almost see his tentacled face on the cover of a future Diary of River Song release.

The Western accents that were provided by the 3 applicable actors are serviceable enough. The lady actor that played the Sheriff was the weak link, her manufactured accent isn't fine-tuned. The 2 male actors were perfectly fine with both of them having American heritages. And, I would go as far to say even an American GraphicAudio performer couldn't notably best Jack DeVos's portrayal of Samson, his accent sounded genuine during both the story and the extras.
As for the story when I compare it to other hour-long productions it doesn't hold up to the better ones. It starts out fun and then quickly becomes tiresome due to not enough plot innovation given. The action showdown with Brian's easy disarming was sadly underwhelming. A little more pushback from a perceived accomplished assassin would have been more invigorating. All that we were left with is that without "Mr. Ball" working, Brian is a one-trick pony.
He Kills Me Not gets a borderline pass from me 6/10.
Lesser Evils for my listening ears is so far the BF TLV story to beat.

I thought it was okay. It sets up the beginning of a mystery. The 8th Doctor meets Brian who gets lost in the Vortex and might end up making the changes the create the desert world of Atharna? Once I hear more of TLV I may appreciate it more.

Well that was, average. The cheesy wild west elements were just distracting & added nothing, not helped by the terrible accents. Brian was an OK character I guess but nothing here would make me want to listen to it again. Not sure how this fits into the TLV arc, a couple of mysterious elements that seem over familiar.

It was better than the first book, but that is about all I can say. So far I would say this TLV storyline is purely overhyped. The short stories were average at best, the book was passable and none of the audio's have thus far jumped out and made me love this setting. Frankly, I am left feeling as though buying the books and the audios was a mistake on my part. No offence to those involved in the production - but I think this has been vastly oversold and is severely lacking in delivery.

a rather low key opener to the trilogy but it wasn’t bad I think McGann did a good job though playing a tired weary doctor Felt like an odd choice and despite it not being set during the time war it annoys me that they didn’t use the David Arnold theme and instead went with the time war theme song
Brian had a neat introduction I guess and the other actors did a good performance though the American accent for the sheriff was grating unlike the others
Ending piped my interest and I look forward to the next episode

I thought this was very good, and rather enjoyed it. If only for the bad accents, lol, I thought it did have the feel of a 8DA or an earlier MR release, and in places it sounded to me like Paul was really having fun with it. All that was wonderful to experience.
I actually didn't find the accents that grating except for wondering how they got there (tries to picture interplanetary wagon train and gives up) but maybe that will come out in the wash. Brian was excellent, very creepy in his own way which helped to create a real sense of threat, urgency and suspense even for the Ood generally being somewhat subdued characters.
My only disappointment was probably of my own making, I imagined the story would be quite a bit more self-contained (I might have saved it until more parts are out if I had realized), but I have no idea where I got that idea except that I just assumed it. Really not a bad effort at all, and I'm very much looking forward to more.

The story loses a lot of steam around the half-way point, but it was a fun enough romp. You do get the sense of weariness from the Eighth Doctor in this. It reminded me of his mental state in The Legacy of Time. Beaten down by the Time War, somewhat lacking lucidity, just clawing at any form of relief he can get.

My take is up on CultBox - in short: loved Brian, not so blown away by the rest of it. Lots of questions raised...
